This is why hockey is a beautiful sport, seeding don't mean SHIT once the playoffs start. Kudos to the Panthers for coming back 3 games to 1 when everyone called them dead in the water.
Seeding does mean shit. You obviously want to be in a playoff position and have home ice advantage.

MF gets it, Regular season doesn't mean anything once you are in the playoffs. It's not the same game, and both teams start at 0. What a great series, very entertaining.

Seeding doesn't matter. Esp in the east. Most years you can make a case for most of the teams that reach the postseason. Lots of talent, lots of great matchups.
Tampa have historic season and lose 4-0 in round 1. Boston has best season in NHL history and lose 4-3 in round 1. The only common thing is Sergei Bobrovsky.
I've seen some comparisons between these two huge flops but I still think Tampa's was more embarrassing, couldn't even muster a single win. This isn't much better considering the embarrassment from having been up 3-1but despite whatever pride that comes from making the series close, this has gotta hurt a lot worse than a sweep. At least when the sweep was complete it wasn't this surprising, or last minute, it wasn't at home either. Lord
@@JoshMarshain Tampa/Columbus is a closer matchup in terms of points and overall players on the ice than Boston/Florida. 43 point gap for the Bruins + a 3-1 collapse vs 30 point gap & swept. Arguments can be made both ways, I think this Bruins collapse is much more embarrassing.
@@JoshMarshain Look at it in context though. Tampa bounced back pretty good. The 4-0 loss is not as embarrasing after the back-to-back. Let's see how Bruins' next two seasons look like.
This is way more embarrassing and a bigger choke than Tampa's 2019 sweep, I'd argue this is the biggest choke in sports history. After the first period in the first game, CBJ had Tampa's number, but at least Tampa didn't throw away their future to go all in that year. With Krejci and Bergeron gone, no picks for the next 2 years and in cap hell, I'd be surprised if they even make it to the playoffs next two years.

No, they didn't set any all time records like Boston but those are insanely hard to set, which is why Bostons was of course very special.

That’s doubly insane considering how 12 years prior to the 2010 Caps they made the cup final, and 12 years prior to Boston’s loss in 2023 they won the cup in 2011.

The Bruins need to sign a minimum of 6 players in order to play next season and they have $10.6 million in cap room to do it. That's possible, but difficult. Really, they need to sign 9 players have a full 23-man roster.
It could be worse. Tampa Bay can't sign a 20-man roster without dumping cap space and they are going to lose that trade.
No one's talking about it, but no way Bergeron comes back in a Boston uniform even if he wanted to. Bruins are taking a 4.5M cap penalty into next season (in part due to Bergeron's contract). They're kinda screwed next season.

Im a day 1 cats fan. Dad took me to old Miami arena in the 90s.
I went to opening day in Sunrise and would later work at the arena for 12 years and skate on the ice many times. This is what I've been waiting for since we lost to the Devils in 2012 and they went to the finals. Feels good to see the Bruins and all their fans humbled.
Theres no reason we cant go all the way.

Couldn’t believe how sloppy the Bruins were in this game and this series in general. The season Bruins versus the playoff Bruins were night and day.
They were spoiled and not ready. They thought they'd have it easy. IOW: they believed their own press.
Reminds me of the 2018-19 Lightning, had it easy all year, and never knew how to adjust come playoff time. Goes to show that the regular season really doesn’t mean shit, it’s about who wants it more.

Shannon always has a soft spot for the Panthers. Mainly due to wanting the warm-weatherers to appreciate the sport of hockey.
Shannon is probably the hardest working man on CZcams, a true professional.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look so out of place in a jersey. Like the dude wears every teams jersey. But this literally looks to me like a guy who lost a bet and had to wear the other teams gear. It’s so weird but you can like feel it, how wrong it is, or like how much this loss hurt. I feel bad for Shannon, and have never liked the bruins at all, but the hugs with Bergeron at the end had me so sad.

Thank you Bergeron for everything. What a painful way to end the season, but the Panthers wanted the win so much more than the Bruins.
As soon as adversity hit the Bruins, they didn’t know how to respond, yet with Florida, they had plenty of it all season long, which is why they thrived off it. Panthers deserve all the credit in the world for this historic upset!
the worst part of this isn't almost the epic meltdown but that it might be how Bergeron's last game with the Bruins went. As sad as this loss was for me, I think I might be sadder for Patrice Bergeron not winning the cup and then riding off into the league sunset

From a Bruins fan, the entire way down the stretch I didn’t want the Bruins playing Florida. I was begging for Pittsburgh or the Islanders.
Everyone was talking about NYI & Sorokin, but I felt Florida played the Bruins better than any team other than maybe Ottawa all season. They have guys who are built for the playoffs (see Tkachuk), and even Paul Maurice, who gets a lot of stick, I feel is at his best as a playoff underdog (he beat the #1 seed Bruins with Carolina) and I felt way more afraid of his coaching experience than I ever would’ve with Lane Lambert’s. Not to mention that no matter what their record was, I felt there was still a Presidents’ trophy winning team hidden in there somewhere.
PS: I think there’s a decisive winner to that Huberdeau-Tkachuk deal now!

Shannon, thank you for all your coverage this season. I'm a lifelong Bruins fan from Maine, US. I just appreciate your candor, your honesty and your objective takes. It felt like our Bruins lost this series in Game #5 when Monty decided to play with the lines. I also felt like game #5 was when Swayman should have been brought in. I know I'm not alone on that one.
I'm literally in my work shop at home, in a downpour rain storm, internet in and out. I watched game #7 out here to ensure my wife and kids will still love me in the morning.
The NHL playoffs will still be epic. At 43 years old however, I really doubt I'll see another CUP for my beloved Bruins. Please, if you and your lovely family are ever within earshot of the NY/New England area, I would love to meet you and host your family. Appreciate all your hard work and dedication to this hockey season.
Upset of the decade
After 82 games you start back at 0 wins in the playoffs. Playoff hockey is not the same as regular season hockey. It doesn't matter what your stats or regular season wins total was, it all goes back to 0. That was entertaining and hope round 2 is just as. Go Cats Go
Any way the Bruins losing this series would’ve been heartbreaking for them.
But blowing a 3-1 series lead, and blowing a game 7 lead with less then a minute left and losing in overtime, might just be the most devastating result possible
The Florida freakin' Panthers did it! What an unbelievable comeback from 3-1 down to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the NHL or sports in general! If you're a Miami sports fan, how are you feelin' right now? First, the Miami Heat in the NBA upset the #1 overall seed and now the Panthers do the same thing. Wow!
Bruins just did Carolina Hurricanes a favor! Gave them home ice throughout the playoffs. Bruin fans now know what it’s like for Toronto fans!

Truly one of the biggest choke jobs I think I’ve ever seen in my life. I absolutely despise the bruins, but I wouldn’t wish a choke of this magnitude on my worst enemy. What an unfathomable disaster. All that hard work, team building, and 65 wins, only to play 7 more games than Vancouver this year. Unbelievable.

Spot on Hockey Guy, it was Ullmarks "Charley Brown" moment in game 5 that set the wheels in motion for Boston's epic collapse. Carelessly playing the puck behind his net like he didn't have a care in the world. To compound things, the Bruins coach misread Ullmarks struggles, and waited much too long to react accordingly. Just an absolute rookie coach blunder... What a hoot for the rest of us!

A series like this is what’s so great about hockey. The Panthers had faced adversity, have had their backs against the wall before, while the Bruins really hadn’t faced much pressure all year. Feels like that was the difference maker.

Long, long time Leafs fan here. I know how miserable this experience is and I feel for you Shannon.
These Bruins didn't feel adversity the entire season, and they had one superstar goalie with a .938 who carried them through thick and thin, and a 1B with near Vezina numbers. If you could figure out their goalies you could figure out the Bruins, and they're was a decent chance they wouldn't hold under pressure. Plenty of teams have skaters who can compete with the Bruins, the Bruins just found out too late.

I'm not even a fan but I felt that loss. No one would argue that wasn't the best team in the league, yet here we are. Just goes to show yet again the season ain't the playoffs.
