I love to see younger people appreciating REAL musicianship!
✨Thank you✨
Knopfler is just an awesome storyteller. The music is fantastic, but just listen to the words he sings too, they evoke such vivid images.
I agree with you about his lyrics but I also think Knopfler is such a talented songwriter that you can almost tell what his songs are about without hearing the lyrics.
Gilmour makes his guitar sing, Mark makes his sing and dance.
Hmmm. Gilmour does not touch me at all. Mark almost never fails to evoke emotions.
Once upon a time, decades ago, I may have taken acid, sat back with headphones and enjoyed the sound and fury of Gilmour's rarely melodic playing. But, now, naw.
For me the greatest band of all time and Mark has it all , prolific song writer and one of the most underrated guitar players of all time , he makes it look so easy and that's probably why he is so underrated, Mark did sound tracks for movies also, all of them stunning and has also produced albums for other artists including Bob Dylan, no end to his talent ❤
Underrated? He's one of the greatest and most loved guitar players of all time! The Joe Satriani and Steve Vai fans don't like him much because he does squeeze 100 unnecessary note into a 5 second space, but most normal people from my era (60's to now) rate him up there with David Gilmour etc. And yes I have seen them both live.
@@professornuke7562 He is underrated. Not for us, fans, though, but younger generations don't know a lot about them. To me Mark is one of top ten guitarists in the world and beyond, but now people think you have to be a shredder to be good, you're completely right about that. He has such a distinctive style of playing, nobody wants or can't copy. I've been fortunate (old) enough to hear some of the greats live, such as Mark, Santana, Clapton, Gilmour, Moore, etc. Of course, also Satriani, Vai, Petrucci and others, but Mark is the most recognizable. And let's not forget his lyrics, too. His solo career is also impressive. Some hard core Dire Straits fans don't like it, to me it just shows his greatness, some say it is not good, since they expect to hear Dire Straits. It is just different and equally recognizable for those who really know him.
@@daveboxg3926 yes indeed , I believe the first time Dylan saw them live he said they were the best band he had seen , pick withers drumming in those early days was immense, still think the drumming on the making movies album are so underrated, the drumming on romeo and julliet is quite stunning
So true
100%. Marks playing is so spontaneous and organic and so much more real than the technically perfect virtuoso rock players which to are just boring and predictable.
My favourite band, ever.
The only, only guitarist who can make the hair on my neck stand on end.
An absolute masterclass in musicianship by every band member. Great reaction. Thank you. Best wishes from the UK
Thank you.😊🙏🏼
that performance is as tight as you will ever see from any band, any time, anywhere. Absolutely incredible - each band member is spot on and the talent is clear for all to see.
Terry Williams was a BEAST behind the drums! One of the best drummers from the 80's.👍👍❤️
The brilliant Mark Knopfler, my favourite musician of all.
How could he not be ?
Genius
What a band.
Fantastic live as you can see.
Seen them 8 times over the years and Knopfler is a guitar God in my eyes.
Easy to underestimate Knopfler's lyrics because his singing is so understated. This whole concert is full of amazing performances: Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, Romeo & Juliet, Going Home... all gorgeous and even better than the album versions.
That for me is the test of a great band: their live performances are better than the studio versions.
Totally agree....all great songs and also, as Rebeka said...songs that change throughout, not just 'drum machine on....drum machine off'....they are journeys with twists and turns, fast and slow. Do songs like that get made nowadays? Genuine question as I don't know of any.
@@Dragonblaster1 Not many bands can do that ! Dire Straits were top class with top of their game musicians.
@@malcolmhardwick4258 Yeah! I took piano lessons for 13 years. The keyboardist’s skill & technique is amazing!
@@Dragonblaster1 I've been on two concerts on 1983 tour, two days in a row, Zagreb and Ljubljana, then Yugoslavia. Two different venues, one open air, one hall, two different feels, but the same band, also played totally differently. One of the best bands ever!
I'm their huge fan since 1980 when I have first heard them and I've been fortunate enough to hear them live for six times. It makes me kinda old...
Dire Straits is my favorite all time band. I was fortunate enough to see them live twice. I'm so happy to see your joy 🙂
So good to see younger generations reacting to this music we enjoyed in our youth.so many amazing bands back then when music was played live no tricks just real talent
I'll never forget the first time hearing this song when the album came out. Epic is a word that's used casually but in this instance epic fits. The lyrics, the musicianship, the mood is perfection
Never thought I would see a reaction to this one. I had it on a USB stick and listened to it on a long drive to see my daughter. I had had the song for decades but never listened to it before that trip. She was diagnosed with an ultra rare form of liver cancer in August of 2019 at 23 years of age. 5 hospital stays. 4 major surgeries and one clean up of scar tissue surgery later she is cancer free now for about 2 years. We all think our kids are one in a million. She is one in 5 million. Lot of time to think on this long drives to Wisconsin. And a big thank you to the alert urgent care doctor that caught that unusual lump in her abdomen and sent her straight to the hisoital. She is most likely alive today because he was there and did a careful exam.
Way, way TMI
@@drobichaud1000 suck it up.
Wow. That took a left turn. What about Dire Straits again?
Knopfler is a phenomenal story teller. His understated and not exceptional vocals are the magic as it’s his guitar playing that sings against them so wonderfully.
My favourite song, which is from his solo career is “Speedway at Nazareth”. It’s the tail of a Speedway driver in the States and the failures and pains throughout a season, but “at The Speedway at Nazareth I made no mistake” with the instrumental solo being the race. There’s a wonderful moment live where Richard Bennett the second guitar player comes in making his Gibson Les Paul sounding like the revving of an engine.
There’s a great version on CZcams from a tour Knopfler did with Emmylou Harris in 2006.
Drummer brilliant, keyboard player brilliant, guitarist and songwriter out of this world
That whole concert is unmissable really.
So glad you appreciated this.
One of my favorite things about this concert is how much fun John and Hal are having together and how much Mark is enjoying watching that.
Dire Straits. The masters of the 5 minute instrumental outtro.
for me the best Dire Straits Song
Telegraph Road: Outstanding and a Masterpiece! 🎸🎤
Simply the best, we grew up with such wonderful music.
Sultans of Swing from the same concert (Alchemy live), has a amazing guitar solo by Knopfler
Another is Romeo and Juliet
A masterpiece from start to finish !
"Sultans of Swing" from this "alchemy" album is truly unbelievable, far better than the original, and one of the best live performances in rock!
an all time classic
wish to go back in time and discover again Dire Straits
and go to their concerts as I did
ahhh...well, that's life, and we oldie need to be happy to had the chance to live that time.
cheers to the youngsters nowadays that at least discover what real music is, and what was before all the technology, specially autotune.
me? munich 83...this tour!
Love over Gold is like a snapshot into the early 80's. The whole album is perfect. Their live version is better that most bands studio recordings. That's how good they are.
The beauty in this song is the tempo changes. It makes it sound slightly progressive. Such a great track.
The performance is a masterclass of tight musicianship on stage. The backstory to the song is fascinating, and Mark tells that story impeccably. I was fortunate enough to see the Alchemy tour, and a few others they did- Legendary!
I love Alan’s anticipation on the piano during the quiet bit - adds so much dramatic effect.
Greetings from Canada. Saw them live in the 80s (opening act: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble). This was my fave of the night, mind you the crowd went crazy for the drama and lights show of 'Private Investigations'. Great to see another generation warming to Mark 's lyrical guitar finger- picking style. Peace love and bellbottoms.
Man, Dire Straits and SRV on the same ticket?! Died and gone to heaven territory right there!
I was such an obsessive I saw them three times in a week in the 80s I am an old lady now .Saw so many bands live in the 60s,70s, 80s some of the greatest, but seeing Zeppelin in early days and Dire Straits are the ones that brought me to tears Their guitars are now sailing me home to whatever lies beyond,.Dear ,darling Mr Knopfler I can never repay you those moments of gut wrenching emotion and sheer ecstacy that I have felt listening to you create your magic.
@@twpsy634sounds like you have LIVED
Your reaction is perfect and genuine; it’s an amazing song and if you asked a group of Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler fans I suspect this would be the most common song cited as his greatest.
If you are interested in reacting to more (and why wouldn’t you be?) I’d recommend “Tunnel of Love” from this same concert. Brilliant stuff!
A song about how a town, or a love, starts, builds, and then slowly, too often kills itself off.
Love the smile as soon as you hear the guitar. Your reaction is exactly “it”! Love it
Hi Becky, another great reaction to another great track, by the greatest live band of all time.......More please.....Have a good day.
Alchemy one of the best live albums of all time !!
Wow ! Two beautiful in the same video: Rebeka and Telegraph Road. Ciao Bellissima from Italy
Mark Knofler one of the best "minimalist" guitarists....DS so subtle in building a song
Outstanding. Perfect showcase for a band at it's peak.
They tell a story in words and music. This song really brings to mind some of Springsteen's music.
Hi Rebeka! Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧😊 Thank you so much for resting and posting this, you have lit up my day! What a joy to see your mind, body and soul react so instinctively to an incredible masterpiece composed and executed by geniuses at the very top of their craft. Such a joy to see your smiles, the moments when your eyes were closed when you were completely lost in the music, transported elsewhere!!!
I have watched dozens and dozens and dozens of reactions to this and yours TOPS THEM ALL.
Leaving that to one side we are SO BLESSED that even over 40 years ago the band must have had the best filmmakers and sound engineers/mixers on the planet, there was no such thing as HD OR Ultra HD or 4K/8K or whatever and yet it looks and sounds superb.
Thanks once again for this!! 😘
The skill to be able to deliver this track live is nothing short of awesome, gorgeous ❤
The passion and desperation of the late 70's, early 80's economic desolation just BLEEEEDS through songs like this and Blue Collar Man.
Absolutely watch their 1992 concert "Live in Basel". The performance is stratospheric and Mark Knopfler is a legend.
This concert was absolutely brilliant when it was first released in 1983 on video (also audio CD), and it is every bit as wonderful today. Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits created one of those moments in time where everything came together and magic happened. It's only improved since then.
Mark Knopfler, Lead guitar
Hal Lindes, Rhythm guitar
John Illsey, Bass guitar
Terry Williams, Drums
Alan Clark, Keys
And guest for these shows keys Tommy Mandel
A masterpiece, even Pablo Picasso would be moved by it.
Above all else, Knopfler and Dire Straits are story tellers. In that respect, they are magnificent. Their Golden Heart album is one of my all time favorites.
The 80s was my time , we were spoilt with so much talent back then , in my late 50s now , but damn , I'm so glad I rode that 80s wave !!!!
A fifteen-minute lecture on urban development, sprawl, and decay, wrapped up in some of the best instrumental music out there.
Dire straits was the figurehead at the introduction of the compact disk in the eighties
The crowd is the 6th musical instrument in this masterpiece. The crowd cheers, catcalls, and whistles. And sings. It's glorious when everyone is singing with Mark at the start. Wonderful reaction.
Hammersmith Odeon. London. 22 July 1983.
From the golden age of music, the likes will never be heard again, no new so called artists have anything like this kind of musicality.
Correct
Telegraph road è il pezzo musicale numero 1 della musica.
Chi ha scritto Telegraph può essere solo un genio.
MARKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Without doubt one of the all time great band classics BUT what a truly epic reaction video. Expression and obvious feeling for the music totally overcomes gratuitous commentary. Absolutely loved your very real feelings for this piece.
Love the lyrics. Love the laid back tune this one have. And yes, Mark Knopfler is one of the god´s on guitar
This. And Brother´s in arms. (a suiteble song considering what´s going on in Ukrain) Are my favorite songs by them.
But they have made so many other great songs. Tunnel of Love, Solid Rock, Portobello Bell, Money for nothing, and Down to the waterline. (Just to mention a few) And the epic Sultans of swing
Soooo beautiful. And the song is beautiful too!!
It's always a joy to see you move on the music and the smile, girl you slayed it even if it in mirror image 🎶🎶🎶❤️
Rebeka! Thank you for this!! Dont be afraid to check out a few more live versions of this song that are just as awesome, maybe more so. Have a good night!
Dare I say the live performances of Dire Straits has something which makes them better than the recordings on CD.
Hi gorgeous, great reaction to a great song, without constant interruptions, well done, stay well. 🤩😘
Greatest live concert of all time no question and I'm not a massive dire straits fan generally but this concert is out of this world.
Mark Kopfler still plays this song on his tours today. I saw it live in 2015, just as good.
You are brilliant 👏 young lady.
great band.. I spent a lot of my youth in the 70's with my headphones up very loud listening anything and everything Mark put out... special artist
As a guitar player myself, Mark Knopfler is a true strings MAGICIAN.
I saw him live back in 2000. He leaves you breathless with his technique.
Great choice, Becks. Dire Straits is an AWESOME band.
Now you should check out "Sultans of Swing", "Brothers In Arms", "Walk of Life", "Tunnel of Love" and of course, "Money For Nothing".
A much underrated player with a, yes, magic touch, I agree. And his tone is always so on point too!
@@nickcrisp7252 Amén to that, brother
Thank you for your suggestions!🙏🏼Appreciate it.😊
@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic Anytime ☺
you forgot the greatest song of all time...Romeo and Juliet
Amazing to see music like this still resonating with younger audiences today. Knopfler was labelled long ago as what would have been known in ancient times as a bard - a storyteller who told his stories to music.
If you loved the energy on this one the Alchemy Live version of their track ‘Sultans of Swing’ will be perfect for you to cover.
You posted this months ago so are highly unlikely to see this comment, but I want to say it anyway. I've just spent 12 minutes listening to a Classical Composer listen to this recording and whilst he told me what key changes where going on, and what the lyrics where. I was frustrated... this is music, tell me how you FEEL about the song! It was like listening to a physicist trying to explain love. You said nothing, literally! but I knew exactly how you felt about the song all the way through. Keep doing what your doing. Thankyou
Brings back memories
Gee, I didn't know Scarlett Johansson would get into Dire Straits! This is the band's best performance ever; and one of the best of ANY band ever.
i love that you don't have to stop and comment at every turn, good job though it is your natural intuition
Thank you again! This is the first time I have ever heard this song. And another great reaction too. Your energy is felt.
Thank you!🙏🏼☺️
@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic You're welcome! Now keep teaching me new songs that I missed somewhere along the way.
@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic
Great Reaction and in all the time since I subscribed I have never seen you look so Beautiful as soft colours REALLY suit you and your skin is flawless.
You did miss the Piano Chop @12.17 though :)
There's never a drum kit around when you really need one.
This one hit me like a dagger when I was 17. Totally hooked. But for me, the studioversion always is the best version. It gets me every time. Most of the time I can't bear to listen to it anymore, because it touches too much. Memories.
This and Romeo and Juliet are my faves.
Love this song, you can visualize it perfectly
Something you may not know-Mark Knopfler wrote the musical score for the movie Princess Bride.
beautiful!!! Pretty damn good song too
Another one that is musically masterful and in the same vein as Telegraph Road is Private Investigations. Beautiful instrumentation. These are my 2 favourite song of theirs along with with Sultans of swing and Brothers In Arms. I could go on but I can't split which one is best. They are all fantastic.
Thank you so much for you’re suggestions! Appreciate it!🙏🏼☺️
There are no words. Straits at their very best.
Thank you, great, they broke the mould with this band, greetings from Scotland ✌️🌹🦌shine on.
This is an amazing performance, Mark Knopfler was untouchable during this time, the whole concert is amazing, please react to Tunnel of Love from the Alchemy concert next.
Alan Clark beside Mark makes great job with his piano performance. His style of playing is absolutely beautiful and in this masterpiece the dialogue between guitar and piano makes the song perfect. Hardly any music has ever touched me so deep inside as the music of DS. It’s great to see that it still does and finds new souls and in this case soul sister after forty years of its release. Thanks for sharing this. Btw my personal favourites are Romeo & Juliet Live On the Night (maybe because it was my first stadium concert ever Helsinki 1992 and then Alchemy version on Sultans of Swing.
Great song one of my favorite cd's is Alchemy
Totally chills. From you, from Mark. 30 years listening dire straits, and every time it's like "woooow". Love from Siberia.💙💛
Thing is with Knopfler is his younger days,it looks like he's just walking around his house & the guitar is just attached to him,it's that natural talent that he has, looks as if he just doesn't need to try,id love to even have a 100th of his talent
I love how you dance and rock to the song Rebeka✌️😎😘
Loved the performance! Not just the band's but loved your performance also! So good to see today's generation appreciate the great music I grew up with. Warms my heart!
I travel for a living and every time I am in Michigan and in particularly Detroit I think of this song and have to start jamming to it. Love the live version. Loved your reaction! Keep up the good work!
This is greatness....
I wonder how many eargasms you had during this reaction. It is very rare to go to a concert and see everyone working as one and making an unforgettable show. Every song in this performance is just.... AWESOME. Although everyone was superb, for me the most outstanding was Terry Williams on drums. He was and still is so underrated, and that is a shame. Kind regards, stay safe and healthy.
Desde Argentina, gracias por esta music
An absolute tour de force. With all the different changes in mood and feel, it's about five songs in one.
Thank you for providing the background to the song as well. I figured it was based on an American experience, but also wonder whether it drew on what was going on in Great Britain at the same time under Margaret Thatcher as well.
Fantastic song.
This and MAKING MOVIES are amazing and very similar in vibe . Those type of songs take you a long journey in a short time span ..
No one can finger pick those strings like Mark... Brother's in Arms... (original video) has melted me for 40 years onwards 😇
This is a concert I listen to and watch over and over. When it was re-issued on Blu-Ray, I ordered it and then found a Blu-Ray player. Well worth it! I'm amazed when watching your reactions to this, and to a few other Dire Straits concert performances. It's a bit like looking in a mirror - your responses to different parts of the songs are identical to my own. If it wasn't for time, distance and age, I'd swear we're related, lol. All joking aside thank you once again for presenting another superb Dire Straits performance and your reaction to it. It's another of the true masterpieces of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits.
This entire album is a masterpiece.
Also check out 'Speedway at Nazareth'. Always sounded like a spiritual successor to Telegraph Road in my mind.
fantastic thank u for the presentation of Dire Straits it was a real pleasure to watch you shacking head clapling also and react like a drummer thank u so much
Dire Straits were top of their game. Watch the Live in 85 Sultans of Swing !
