Same, although the trend is pretty harsh going forward against the unlimited Autobahn. Tbf, there are a few nice apps which warn you of radar control, so you can push sometimes 200 even in other countries.
Not sure why people compare M2 and RS3. Two different personalities.
M2 is a sports car that’s a raw 2 door, rear drive that’s fun in the corners and slower speeds. Stiffer suspension and bouncy on rough roads. No traction in the snow or wet roads. But it is a real fun car.
RS3 is a 4 door sedan that is great on crappy roads, all wheel drive, brutal engine, and can get up to high speed real fast while maintaining it easy. The amount of speed you can carry on wet crappy roads is amazing. Amazing sound too. Tuning puts them in supercar territory with ease.
I would have both to have the most fun as they both have different personalities.

Ryan B There the best backroad warrior cars, not the best at top speed. The Audi’s all-wheel drive lets the car accelerate better, however the wad does have some disadvantages in the handling department.

in the shitty wet roads in uk i would get the rs3 as a daily driver. if it was a weekend toy i would get the m2

I loved your review on the 1M because of how passionate you are about that car. Having seen this one, I feel like the 1M excited you more where as this is a technical marvel in some sense. So my question is, would you rather have the 1M or the M2C?
The top speed issue seems to be a mapping issue. BMW have chosen to restrict the power above 5,000rpm (flatten the power output at stock peak power) in comparison with the M3/M4 Comp that develops more power all the way to the revlimiter. I have seen a M2C remapped for generating more power and torque (502ps/630Nm) that is more lively all the way to the redline. They woke the engine up!

Seems like it really takes some time to accelerate..i assume its because they de-tuned the car a bit. But props to bmw...probably the only car manufacturer to go back to their roots and provide what we really want.. shorter wheel base, 2 seats, big engine and rear drive. I love it. The only thing that is needed on this car is an aftermarket exhaust and a tune..maybe cold air intake as well. This car makes me think of the Alfa 4c for some reason..although they are very much different, they are also the same.

17:39 - I think that's because this is the first M car in some time that makes the claimed power and no more. Normally BMW gives worst-case-scenario figures and delivers an additional 10% with normal weather/fuel. People are putting the M2 Competition on the dyno and it makes more or less the expected 405hp.

Maybe top speed is due to engine still pretty tight. Need around 5.000 km to loosen up. Great car. Great vdo as always . Keep it up Max.

I would be having struggles with low seating position. I just can not see much, and it is all about predicting and skill. I am used to old cars/veterans where you can literally see your edges in the front. I hope I will get into it, when my car will arrive

It’s funny when the original M2 came out, everyone claimed it was the best M car that was perfect.
Now that the new M2C is out, everyone is saying how slow the old one was, no engagement with manual, steering felt numb, poor interior, no M buttons, poor brakes.
Now all of a sudden people complain about the first one. 😂🤣
Anyway, I’m glad they improved on it. The original was slow and didn’t feel anything like an M car. I never got why all the reviews were all that great.

The old one drove fine but the engine was a let down. It's competition crushed it in the speed stakes which if we live in the real world...matters to people.
Even this one is slower than a rs3. But at least it's a proper m engine
@@stinger15au I went in my cousins RS3 all X-mas and that engine is a blast and combined with the Quattro traction it is a missile! I am sure that with a remap and some wider stickier tires the Audi and the M2C would be pretty close in dry conditions.
Autobahn M2C might be better, but for most people the M2 on B roads was more than adequate and more usable. The power to weight ratio is pretty similar, I would take the lighter car. 1M now is 300lbs lighter than the M2C.
I swear this happens with every car, they say things are good then a new generation comes out and they say old one had bad seating position or bad pedal position. Reviewers are full of the shit for the most part

Same engine as the M3, but the M3 version maintains its torque at the very high revs better, hence the m3 getting to top speed better. A simple remap would fix that. I wish they had given it the M3 map from the factory.

I am so glad BMW did this. I drove the regular M2 at a track event and while I loved how light and nimble the front end was in comparison to the heavier M4, I disliked the lack of support of the non M seats. It was a good car but it felt like it could have been so much more. It looks like they’re finally letting it reach its full potential. I wish they didn’t detune the engine though. Since it’s turbo charged, and aftermarket (Dinan) tune would fix that.
The reason the old M2 was so un-M-like, was that they had to fight really hard to get it in production. The chief levels were against it but they managed to convince them. Downside: they had to make the production as cheap as possible, so they used the parts of the M4 and deletes any big customization options. Since the M2 was a success, they were able to do such a huge leap with the Competition and soon with the M2 CS. I'm really curious of the next gen M2, it can't get worse after all this success.

Are the bigger brakes standard in the US for 2020? I ordered one a week or so ago, but the dealer didn’t mention a brake option and I don’t remember seeing them in the configurator either. I’m not sure I really need them anyway, but I’m curious.
I have exactly the same car, except mine is a 2020. What else can I say, but that you described this car exactly the same way as I do. I love the car. It's the most fun car to drive that I've experienced. I previously had an E46 M3 6MT and the M2C is the perfect reincarnation, better in almost every way. (The S54 sounds better than the S55, even if it doesn't have as much horsepower and torque.) The comparisons between the M2 and M2C will never end, but I remind M2 fans that they just have to look at the VIN and the engine of their vehicles to know the M2 isn't a full M car. Get over it.

oh ah erm. Ooh ah. Before anyone else asks, this did not really happen, it is a bit of light hearted banter, a joke, humour.
A 135i is a 135i and as good as that is it will never be a M2...;) It does not quite have the presence. A quick tune to the M2 Competition will address that issue easily just like the lack of top speed in this clip.That's a concern to me as a soon to be M2 Comp owner with a cousin who owns a RS3.
Topspeed could be an issue with the aerodynamics. I mean, look how wide the car is and especially the wheelhouses. And this is car is not really light too, around 1,6 tonnes as far as I know.

I don't get the lack of adaptive dampers and the notion it's better. After all you now have the adjustability in other areas that wasn't present with the early M2. So why miss out the dampers?

Max, we do not get a manual because that would add another insane amount of BPM tax (because higher emissions).. Not that this car will sell a lot for 100.000+ euro it already costs with the DCT in our country anyway.. Our government really killed the market for fun cars like this with their BPM tax (achieving their goal I guess).. Almost nobody pays this much for a car like this, unless of course you swim in money and really do not care paying 84% tax on a car like this.. It's a nice car for the 60.000 euro it costs in Germany etc with just 19% tax, but more then 100.000 euro for a 2-series, even if it's an M, like in the Netherlands is just crazy..

Honestly I think the top speed begins to get limited towards 250 km/h, just due to how quickly acceleration begins to dip off. And although the power meters don’t show a decrease in power, I don’t think it’s calibrated to show the decrease in power from the limited speed. (Even though it shows it in an M3)
