- The Best M Car get’s a Big Update! Welcome back to Remove Before Race, we’re finally getting to test the update of my favourite small performance car, the BMW M2! But did this near perfect car need an update? Are they fixing what’s not broken?
The M2 is a car that perfectly represented BMW M Town: a two door small M car, with sweet handling and aggressive looks. And it didn’t disappoint when it arrived, I myself personally feel it is the pick of the bunch vs the A45 and RS3. But to understand why it represents the best of M, we have to look at the origins of the M car, from the BMW 3.0 CSL, the legendary E30, all the way to the current M4.
The original M2 had a Unique aggressive body design, small proportions close to that of the E30 and 1M, a cracking engine, axels from the M4, and an uncanny ability to dominate corners. But if we’re honest, there were some areas that could use improvement. The engine for example was not a true M engine, it lacked power in the later range, and the interior was a huge let down for many.
Enter, the M2 Competition, with what seems to be more M DNA than ever.

Drive joes 6mt new car. The manual suits the s55 engine so much better in the f80’s. Will take you back too feeling like your in a old school turbo car. The dct is very linear and doesn’t give you the sense of power unlike the manual.people don’t appreciate the manual cars and review them!

The M2 cp its an extremely heavy vehicle, its 90 lbs heavier than an M3 and 150 lbs compared to standar M2 .An authentic circuit vehicle will never get added weight. Not always what is new , mean its better. Its all about sales.
We'll see. I'm testing one next week as my lease is ready to end on my M4. I did drive the last gen M2 and liked it quite a bit, though I only drove it a few hours. BTW - Nice Sunday Night Football theme music for your intro.

As an M lover and owner for over 20 years this car is pretty close to perfect to what i hoped for and i have been excited to see it, but the New rules making them strangle the sound using particulate filters? Making cars quieter makes me so angry it litterally puts me off the car, and i love the car, I have been waiting for this car as i always felt the M4 was too big, i wanted a smaller lighter car, this is still heavy but it's closer in size and looks to what I want, I don't want to remove the exhaust, remove filters and possibly void warranty, I want the to government to let sports cars be sporty, what a real shame
As a M lover I am Genuinley gutted about this, the car has everything I wanted except for the sound, but losing the sound is enough to make me not buy the car, Jaguar F types still make amazing sounding cars, there is a way around it, I would rather emitions tax costs be higher and at least get a car that sounds right, this is the car that pushed me away from M cars, from a genuinly gutted M lover, I'm guessing the sound deadening is to do with emitions and tax?
M lovers like me are willing to pay higher tax prices to get the car we want, the filters and deadening seem 100% pointless to me
I really don't understand this direction for BMW, the M cars are about the sound as much as the drive

The M2 Competition is really THE best M-Car at any price point.. OMG the exhaust note is amazingly aggressive. Dakota leather is certainly “real” BMW leather and wears very well in the BMW world. As far as the “M” line up...Yea the M5c is a fast cruiser but it’s balance is not there and it’s way too big to handle like a scalpel. This is a true focused track animal.

Superb video - an awful lot of work has gone into it, and you communicate a tremendous amount of information while also making it pleasant to watch. Haven't watched any of your videos before, I will now look out for them. I'm delighted that the review is positive since there is an M2 Comp on the way - manual and in a very similar spec to Joe's. The only thing I didn't like was your look-warm feelings towards the E36 and E92 M'3's (which I had either side of an E46) and which I thought were great at the time. The E92 V8 was gorgeous. Well done.

Great video, outlines my thoughts as a previous model M2 owner, I find my new Competition 30% better in every way. The front feels more connected to a controlled firmer rear, that rose jointing on the rear has made a huge difference along with reprogrammed steering linked to the strut brace. This is my daily and compared to my other supercars it makes you wonder how much quicker anybody could be cross country compared to this car. Looking forward to the special limited edition car that will follow although hard to believe it could be much better. I class this car as a mini Porsche GT3 car, best M car currently produced by a large margin.....

As an m140 owner the m2 never seemed to offer much more car over the 140, at least not enough to warrant paying the extra. The M2 Competition however has left me feeling like I need to own it!! Great video.

@@Grabonator86 2018 M3 weight is 3490 lbs vs m2 competition 3600 lbs . And Standar m2 its 150 lbs lighter (3450 lbs) than the m2 cp.

Great review. I agree about the "needs more interior options" comment. For the price, a gloss carbon fiber or aluminum finish should be available. A heads up display would be nice too.

Man your videos are just fantastic. Brilliantly put together, awesome CGI. And really in depth and well thought through reviews. I agree regards the seats, I think the finance department at BMW made a colossal mistake before on the previous M2 regards the seats. Almost an insult to have ‘lite’ seats. I also think BMW’s options on this M2 are crazy - why such a limited range of options especially colours?! Must be down to manufacturing capacity but the range of colours is so limited!

21:57 AMG also have the new particulate filter, but the facelift C63 S still sounds really good. The bigger issue with this car is the new engine, it doesn't as nice as the previous one.

That car is pure awesome
As I have said on other videos. The original is sorted with springs, spacers and airbox. Ride, turn in, and throttle response. I am waiting to have a go in a Comp, I can't help thinking that a lot of this talk of better ride was already sorted on the LCI which had slightly different damper settings as far as I am aware and feels different to drive than the pre-LCI.

Regarding optioning up higher. I agree with you. It's a real pity that you can't.
Even being more into AMG, the BMW M2 and Competition version is one M car that I’ve always been interested in because it’s light, agile, RWD, has an option for a manual gearbox, it’s not as costly as some other M cars like say a BMW M4 CS, also as for sound I like the previous M2 sound more but the S55 engine is decent in sound ok that’s all🤷🏾♂️😂

3 doors & 3 door coupes in particular are only available in the much bigger and more expensive models. You'd of thought the new A45 and new CLA 45 would be the obvious options but again 5 door only (as far as I know)
