All New Melee Weapons and Melee Changes in DayZ 1.17

- 6 new or re-added melee weapons were added in DayZ patch 1.17 and the brooms can now be set on fire. These melee weapon changes include increases to melee blunt weapon damage, a new stealth attack and the ability to use a motorbike helmet for the first time ever as a weapon.

At least a broom can be broken down into a long stick for free, and then it can be made into a spear? I feel like they'll add stealth kills for the spears soon since they have them for the bayonets

@@sdawg58 I can survive without the fire arrows as long as we get bow/crossbow. I hope the bohemia guys take the modded crossbow that I've been seeing recently and just use that because the bolts are crafted with feathers and short sticks

The sharpened wooden stick also acts like a spear now, was hoping to see how effective it is as a weapon

Because blunt weapons have received such a huge buff I see axes as a victim of that (especially splitting and fireaxe) I'd either send high-health damage blunt weapons inland and/or renerfing them or buffing axes which I want to consider true kings of melee (especially fireaxe).
Splitting axe should do more damage to headshots like have a higher damage multiplier and fire axe should have a better body hit damage
Completely agree. The sledge is awesome, but the fire axe should be on top. I don't know about you guys, but if I could choose to get hit by either a sledge or an axe, I'd choose the sledge. I'm sure it's something to do with an axe's versatility as a tool, but still..
@@redechelon37 I think the sledge should take a lot longer to swing and they should add broken ribs that could be inflicted by bullets or sledge swings that have the effect where if you Shoot a caliber 357 or above you take shock damage
Except swords, we all love swords
If I had my choice between the bow and crossbow, I'd want the crossbow because it would be more viable at killing players and AI, AND it would have craftable ammo by making bone or stone arrows as well as having arrow bundles you can find in hunting locations
they still need to add the ability to attach a normal fishing pole to your shoulder slot
If I had a change for melee I'd go back to the older animations where you can over the head tap a zombie with an axe instead of swinging from side to side
if I could pay money to get back the pre "player controller" melee, I would.
the biggest irony of the so called "player controller" is taking players control away by locking you in an animation when you swing a melee weapon

Idk is it just me, but as a freshspawn I used sometimes helmets as a melee weapon against zombies especially when helmets were the only thing lying around...
Use any canned food and continuesly punch a zombie with the hand that has the can in it. Some people make the mistake of thinking holding a one handed melee weapons gives the same damage to the other hand with nothing in it.

Wonderful video like always MR. WOBO, however, I wish you listed the health and shock damage for not only LIGHT attacks, but HEAVY attacks as well. Also, the damage for blunt weapons has not changed with the 1.17 update, the buff was implemented in 1.12. I do appreciate the video dedicated to melee and its mechanics and hope to see many more like it.

I have found that a sneak power attack from behind with the pitchfork aimed at the head is a one shot kill on townies. ..haven't tried on military yoyos...

Pretty sure they reduced the durability wooden sticks to make them burn quicker. You could get a lot use from just one bush. Could be something else though

They should make it where your character head butts people with the helmet on. Would be a good defense wear because some times you get a little close in combat

thanks so much for keeping us in the loop WOBO, I really think that the DayZ devs are preparing dayZ for zombies breaking down doors, the reason I predict this is the alarm clock decoy (which needs work) and the addition of spears which would be the best weapon for piking zombies through windows
That would be awesome if they added that, it would also give players incentive to not stay in one place for too long(that isn’t fortified/a base)

They need to fix the conflict with the spear/sharpened stick as the animation for cooking with the sharpened stick is broken now. There should be a sharpened stick to make a spear, and one for cooking only.

My first kill ever on dayz was a zombie that I had beaten and bashed to death with a red motorcycle Helmet. Glad to the the addition of this head piece

@@Bigsativa Just WOBO Style. All aspects of despawn timers. In what distance do items not despawn, when players around / which item category despawns in what amount of seconds. Do timers restart, when players enter the „sight zone of items“ again and so on….:)
But of course focused on dropped items.

They reduced stick dmg. Ffs that's usually my first weapon especially when starting in the middle of nowhere 👏
Thankfully they broke cooking with sticks (& probably Improvised fishing) so we could get a pretty useless spear.
Far cry 5, map editor is crazy and I've been experimenting with terrain features. Bump tool, noise, erosion..
Basically reproducing real life geographic formations from coastline to mountains. Looking to real life for inspiration on map editing.
Reaching them is difficult and I'm assuming thier content woth how terrain is but if forest foliage was more dense in some ares, more brambles on side of roads. Pretty much American city design from 40s-current times.
High hopes for Dayz. Imo, Arma, Sqaudz and dayz are pushing towards direction Battlefield was going. Map editor on console of dayz like dayz experimental and submit terrain patterns to development.
What ever to make the game better.. no body asked. I'm leaving this here.

new craftable items are cool
but the other items are just annoying
they need to address the cheaters problem rigorously. Those patches are fine but as long players will not get utterly annihilated by 500m pistol head-shots.
If someone would see me playing dayz and ask my opinion about game i would say it is fun but has stupid amount of cheaters present.

You can cut corpses with other things than knifes.
So if you cut up the corpse, you will get bones anyway, so you can use them, to make you bone knifes.
But only if you get it wet

I dont understand why taking apart items in DayZ causes parts to disappear. DayZ devs just dont make sense.
Mate , every update they drop it gets worse , Zombies or animals don't bleed , the cars are still fudged , a wolf and bear wouldn't attack you every time you seen one , the list goes on and on , but they would rather drop a motorbike helmet with nails , gg bohemia gg
So they've added loads of weapons that no one will use because of their poor functionality and are using models already in the game
