- If you have a wet/dry vacuum (aka a shop vac) you might have to clean up some really fine, dry dust. If so, you should use the dust collection bag, also know as the filter bag. If you are trying to figure out how to install test things, this video will show you how to install it and make sure it stays in place for the life of the bag.
I'm using official Craftsman filter bags with this 12-gallon Craftsman CMXEVBE17594 shop vac, which you can buy here all over the place. Many companies sell generic bags which are mostly ok, though quality can vary.

Just make sure to size the filter bag to the size of your vacuum! So a 12-gallon sized dust bag for your 12-gallon vac, otherwise you'll be changing them all the time!

Brilliantly presented video. No stupid whiney music. Very simplified, concise, clear and well filmed. Other CZcams viwers, if you post so called "informative" videos, THIS should be your template.
Thank you. Excellent work!
😢❤😅😮😅😅😮😊
Great presentation - I wasn't sure if the air filter should come off when you use a filter bag but this answered my question.
Thanks for sharing. I am installing mine now.
Thank you, sir 🫡
Great presentation, helped a lot.
Glad it helped!
I bought a 3 bag set on Amazon and there were no directions on how to fit the bag. As this was my first time trying filter bags, I knew I would rip one if I wasn't careful. Your video shows exactly what I was interested in seeing. Thanks!
Ive been using reusable green cloth walmart bags i just fold the opening staple it shut then make a whole and install it to hold it in place I zip tie it and it works perfect it traps fine dirt.
For filtration reasons and rear blower from the vac you absolutely need a filter and bag which also filters for many safety and health reason
Thank you for this video, I was so confused about the bag
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks, this is a good tutorial.
This helped me, thanks
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for this info
Thanks, I just bought one plus dust bags. Good video
Thanks!
Great video my buddy said need bag I guess that's why old vacuum doesn't work good didn't know shop vac had bag
Great video 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you 🙏 big help ❤
Thanks for the video. My older Craftsman vacuum does not have an inlet diverter that seems to be required to use a bag. I hope I can purchase a diverter to retrofit my vac. Otherwise, I’ll need to purchase a new vac to have a bag filter. I already have a cyclone separator ahead of the vac, but the separator does not collect the fine dust.
same issue, have you found a diverter?
@@slane6666 nope. I’m using the vac the way it is.
bag instructions I got say to remove the diverter. So don't think you need one. Diverter I am taking to mean the angled deflector so the tube is not just pointed straight at the filter.
I just did my own adapter with a spare tube of plastic made for a bigger vacuum. I simply cut about 3" starting at the biggest part of the tube then wrapped it in duct tape to make a conical shape. I then inserted it inside the vacuum hole where you plug the hose and pushed it as far as I could until it made somewhat of a seal inside. The 1.5" coming out was enough to put the bag on. The bag is not holding super tightly around the adapter but the filter in the center keeps the bags from moving so it's still working... For now😅
where do you get the adapter with the double flange?
Thank you❤
Hey, Help: What about the ShopVac Mini 1 gal I bought? It came w/ a bag but can I use it without, do you know? Weird, cuz unlike the 1.5 gal I had this Mini did not come with that ring and cloth that went over the 'cage' where the floater ball was. Neither does the Mini have that 'floater ball' thingy. Ugh! Once I put the bag in this little thing, there seems no room left for it to even expand with vacuumings :( but I'm afraid to use it without one. Help me? Many thanks from Canada ~
Thanks
Where do you get the bags? I have an 8 gallon and I don't want to waste money on the wrong bags. Do these bags filter particles? I want to vacuum my basement but but y is it exhausts into the air down there.
Amazon or Home Depot are easiest
Helpful video. Where do you purchase the bag and how much?
Amazon. You can go generic or branded to your vac
so far working as it should
So when do you use the black mesh filter?
I believe when you use it as a wet vac
Terrible instructions on the bag. Thanks for the demonstration.
My shop vac doesn't have the thing that sticks out where you said it's ribbed for the filter..
