Thanks Nathan! I always like to see someone properly install things for the first time before I attempt to do it even if it is just a paper filter bag for your SHOP VAC! :-)
And 6 yrs later I still needed you! I heard ripping and decided maybe I should stop...turns out I was on the right track. Thanks dude, I hope you have an awesome weekend!
Thank you VERY MUCH for your help! I got a new 4 gallon Porter Cable wet/dry shop vac and the instructions are ridiculously sparse and of no help. I haven't had to put a dry disposable bag on a shop vac since way before my dad passed away New Year's Eve 2014, so I had no one to ask. I appreciate that you took time to post this.
YOUR VIDEO SAVED MY DAY! (or the remainder) I was about to cry like the girl I am! Purchased 1st disposable shopvac filter today. Became pissed off & about to put the trusted pleated filter back on ol' Blue, stumbled across your video. as you stayed in the video you made my frustration lied in the fact that I couldn't figure out why the intake deflector wouldn't "easily" or "at all" separate from the deflector guide? FINALLY, your video gave me the answer because my model doesn't separate from the deflector guide! if anyone happens to work for a company that does marketing or produces shop back to school filters please have them add that tiny bit of information on to the directions. but thank you thank you thank you for making that video and now my shot back can pick up the fine particle dust that I need it to. Thanks Again
Thanks! I have a unique talent of complicating simple things. LoL From my instructions, I couldn't figure out if I needed to replace the deflector (after installing the bag) or leaving it off. Your video was short and efficient and now I can vacuum! Thank you!
Frank, now I don't use a filter and I cover the flanges with duct tape so they don't rip the bags for maximum performance. The Shop Vac company suggests that you still use a pleated filter in case the bag rips. I have more on this with this newer video. czcams.com/video/CrMSJvVUlBY/video.html
Thanks for the information wasn't really sure of how to install it with or without the filter it can be installed without the filter or with the filter for dry pick up
+bobby Lee The manufacturer does recommend to use the filter in case the bag breaks / tears. I show a way to install it without using the pleated filter also. After doing this for a while I would recommend still using the pleated filter if you are using the cheaper general purpose bags, but the fine particle bags are much tougher and I haven't had any problems with them tearing.
Thank you for this. I figured out how to put the bag on that fixed, curved intake part, but I thought maybe you would somehow take off that big plastic "cage" with the ball in it, because it takes up so much room in the tank. I don't see how the bag can expand much with that in the way. But I see that it doesn't come off, so I guess it works somehow.
Even with the cage in there the bag still has plenty of expansion room. I recommend periodically checking on the bag for any signs of tearing. When you do you will see that it does expand pretty well. Glad to help and thank you for watching. Check out our hundreds of more videos at www.aroundthehome.org/
I have a shop vac that is also a pump vac I found someone threw away. I only got the hose and the unit no attachments or filters. It says on the little dirt deflector for use with a bag keep the filter which I have a clean stream fine filter and a fine filter bag. To install the bag the bag says to remove the deflector and insert it so the dirt will go down and then reinstall onto the holder then insert the hose. I sucked up drywall and stuff still got threw the fine filter bag onto my filter. They work but still require a filter if you want great filtration.
Thanks, glad you liked the video. I just pop the lid and feel how full it is. You want to change it at least by 75% fill or you will not get it out in one piece. For more great videos on just about everything check out my website www.greatwhiteninja.com
I will. I am very surprised that the instruction manual did not say anything about what to do with the bag. I am 48 years old been using wet dry vacs for years and never even knew you could put a bag in them I feel a bit stupid.@@AroundTheHome1
Now that's up to you. If you are using the fine particle bag and a clean cartridge filter, then you are getting a ton of filtration. In my opinion if you are sucking up regular drywall dust, saw dust, even grinding mortar / grout you are very good like this. But if you are sucking up something more toxic then yes, a HEPA cartridge would be good. And if you are sucking up something toxic / carcinogen then I would also double check the approved method for that specific item. 👍 So glad to help! Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org
Not the only time. That is when it really shines because the cartridge filter clogs so fast when you are sucking up grout or drywall dust. I use mine all the time, for everything except wet pickup.
I got a question about having the paper pleated filter on with the filter bag. I don't know where the comment went so I am posting this comment here. The manufacturer recommends that you have the paper pleated filter on with either the general filter bag or the fine particle filter bag. If you know me then you know that I like to push performance so I tried using the bags without the paper pleated filter. To do so you have to wrap tape, like duct tape, around the base of the filter frame so the notches don't rip your bag. I tried it first with the general pick up filter bags but they ripped and when they did dust ran through the motor, not good. I am currently running the fine particle bags with no paper pleated filter and have had no problem. The general pick up bags are only single layer so they can and will rip when the get full. The fine particle bags are at least double layer, if not triple. They are much stronger and hold up better. But remember, the manufacturer does want you to use the paper pleated filter also so to be on the safe side do that.
Thank you... this is exactly my question. I put the pleated filter inside the paper filter bag, but the bag can not fill up it seems? ???? I just checked to see how much was in the paper bag and it's not much, but the round pleated filter is so big, I don't think the bag can hold very much! Very confused. I'm just vacuuming my house with dust (I live on a dirt road) and dog hair... so I think I will try it without the pleated filter and with duct tape over the bottom of the plastic. Thank you SO MUCH for explaining this... their manual and internet sites are very sketchy. haha Cheers.
Nathan, our Shop Vac has a hole on the top lid (this to insert hose to use as a blower). Are there any ways to cover this hole? Its very strong and we worry that some of the debris (dust) will go back into the air
Honestly, I'm not familiar with the shop vac models that also double as a blower. I do know that some of those models were not designed to handle the filter bags. Sorry that I couldn't be more help.

My intake deflector piece will not come off of the shop vac I feel like I am going to snap or break it if I force it any harder then I already have tried..
Some do not remove. Even if it is a separate piece. Many are locked in place and are not meant to be removed. Just slide the bag over it. Do you need to use a filter when using the unit for wet pickup only? Seems useless waste of a filter. Just vacuuming up water.
