To prevent tearing the shop vac bag, try to lift from the bottom of the bag with using both hands.

I reuse my bags until the paper starts wearing out. I cut the end open, and using TWO HANDS, dump it out. Then fold it over once or twice and glue it shut with a few staples

i think ill just duck tape the edge of a fabric bag and clamp it closed with a 15cm clamp

I just bought this vacuum, but I’m confused with how the bag works. Do I need to install the bag at all times? What happens if I don’t install the bag? If I vacuum water do I need to remove the bag? Help please!

1) If you use it as a "Dry Vac", you should use the bag at all times. If you don't use the bag, you would have to frequently clean or change the filter (shown in video: 32 sec).
2) If you use it as a "Wet Vac", you should remove the bag and the filter.
