Need the filter dry

So what are the pleated filters for? That’s what I have and my vac is blowing out dust from the exhaust and I was just about to get rid of it if I can’t figure out how to fix it.

Replace the pleated filter, then put a swimming pool skimmer sock over it to extend the life. There's a CZcams video on the subject.
