- Skyrim is a land of many settlements, however only Solitude stands as the province's capital. The city of Solitude is an iconic location in The Elder Scrolls 5, occupying pivotal roles in the Imperial, Stormcloak, Dark Brotherhood and even Thieves Guild questlines. With so much going on here and so many years after Skyrim's initial release, one would imagine there's not much about this place that's left to learn. However, Skyrim's attention to detail can't be underestimated and indeed the land's capital still offer much to discover. So today we'll be taking a look at five things you (probably) didn't know about the city of Solitude in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

I wish the cities felt like actual, bustling cities rather than just a small town with like 10 people.
Maybe one day we will get that on future technology when it can handle it
100%. I love the cities; they’re all unique and all have something to offer, but they feel scarce.
I think Whiterun is the only city which actually feels like one in the game

This is a problem with Bethesda’s game design and development with consoles as a priority

If you've completed the vampire quest in morthal you can meet the jarls huscarl in the inn. Speak to him and you'll be able to ask him what's wrong and if you can help. He agrees, and asks you to deliver a very personal and confidential letter to Aldis in solitude. If you read the letter, it will say that morthals huscarl is ready to make the changes he has discussed with Aldis. Once you deliver the letter, Aldis will inform you that bc of the civil war and everything else going on, he won't "make changes to morthals leadership".

Fun fact: Its impossible to play the main game without setting foot in Solitude once.
You need to go in for the peace meeting during the main quest. Even if you decide to side with the stormcloaks to go around that quest, you need to enter during the final fight.

You also have to go in there in order to talk to Malborn for the Diplomatic Immunity quest

Witcher 3 cities have tons of people and no "character" while Skyrim cities have like 50 people but they're all well rounded characters. It will be interesting to see what the next elder scrolls is like

@@ghosttea3769 I looked it up, you're supposed to fight through Labyrinthine, but there's a glitch that makes it also appear outside of Froki's shack. If I'm reading the wiki on it correctly, it also respawns.
Personally, Solitude is my favorite city out of all the cities in Skyrim.
It's one of the only places in skyrim that "is a shitty town but atleast we actually have fucking walls"

I don't think any hold is safe. To be honest, Falkreath is probably the safest.
On that last point of the Stormcloak uniform, I'm really disappointed that there was no reaction to any outfits in almost every circumstance other than the odd comment. Maybe I am just being whimsical about Fallout: New Vegas, but in such a faction-based storyline it didn't extend far out in the roleplaying aspect.
There is a mod fit this... "wearing faction armour causes aggression" or so
If you talk to Hadvar in Helgen Keep when wearing Stormcloak armour he will say unique dialogue. I don't quite remember what he says though but it is basically a warning.
i wonder if there's remarks regarding the grade of the player's clothes, like, noble's, rags, commoner, etc; or the armor, like maybe racist Nords will berate you for wearing Elven

one moment in particular is during the civil war questline when you have to deliver the forged documents to the opposing faction. you can be wearing the opposite faction's armour and the general will just be like "hey why are you wearing that" and that's it. i hope elder scrolls 6 will touch upon this

How could you leave out that the court wizard is clearly a vampire. She only shows up with a detect undead spell has clearly not aged even though she took care of Torryg as a boy and even has vampire eyes and facial features. She's also a character you speak to when seeking a cure for vampirism.

Did you notice, when siding with the Stormcloaks and finish the civil war quest line, all former Jarls gather in the basement of the Blue Palace? Just staying there, complaining about the situation.

When you win the Civil War on the Imperial side, all the "exiled" Jarls and their families are imprisoned in one of the rooms in the Blue Palace. Not sure where the Jarls would go if the Stormcloaks win. Somewhere in Windhelm's castle?

You might not see this, but just in case, something for the “things you might not have known” style videos: during the quest “Laid to Rest” in Morthal, after killing Laellete, most players probably go right to Alva’s quest to gather proof that she’s a vampire. However, if you talk to the innkeeper, she has a unique dialogue option about Laellete, and if you talk to Alva herself, she mentions that she knows you killed Laellete.
Fun Fact: If you murder every non-essential character in a city, you’ll basically be able to do whatever you want, because the guards will all be dead

No if you kill every npc the game can not load the cells and so your game will crash, I tried. But you can '' overthrow'' all major cities and minor villages

I know this is Rift related, but have you ever talked about how strange Darklight Tower is and the even odder conenction to the Ruins of Rkund? The fact that the mother was trying to "become one of them" as the daughter puts it. Which seems like a hagraven ritual, a bowl with a goat head which can be found all over hagraven nests. But in the Ruins of Rkund there is a dead hag and a dead witch, which is odd naming choices for two of the same type of enemy, but also a wisp mother spawns on top of the dead hag. Dwarven ruins, a wispmother, hags trying to become "something" all seems fishy, especially since there is a bar gate that only can be opened from the tower side, and leads right to the ruins.

Skyrim is my only source of true peace I’ve been playing this since release everyday , over 2-3 thousand hours played absolutely genius game design truly a modern day masterpiece just started my like 200th character to the point I know the lines to most main missions , and to this day I’ll still find a secret or random encounter that pleases me

I think the real reason they abandoned the quest on killing Elisif, was because of Wolf Queen questline where Elisif plays also her role. Sure they could make it like "to gain her trust you must firstly complete the other quest" but...
Tullius and Rikka don't mind the Dragonborn wearing a stormcloak armor because they are all for you being a spy for them, and in fact you are given a spy mission at some point.

The general or whoever isn't the only one with armour specific dialogue, as Hadvar also tells you to change out of Stormcloak armour if its equipped because he doesn't want you to be seen as a traitor. I'm glad stuff like that exists in the game. More dynamic

My Thoughts:
1. By explaining how it wouldn't work narratively, I still feel like this quest would've been a hell of a good one if instead of Erikur, they backed up Falk Firebeard. Firebeard seems more likeable and trusted, at least.
2. Makes sense, really. A mish-mash of nationalist Nords would never stand a chance at combating the full might of the Empire. However, if one of their officers were, per se, the leader of all the factions of Skyrim, then that would mean something at least...
3. I honestly didn't know there was something going on between Firebeard and Bryling, and I've been playing Skyrim since day 1. I guess those times when I've killed her as certain characters meant a lot more to a certain someone lol
4. Yet again, something I would've never noticed without it being pointed out. This means all those times I cleaned as much of the hanging moss off the lower parts of the wing meant something.
5. I read about this on UESP. Got to make me a diehard StormCloak berserker so I can do this lol
Overall, great episode as always Nate. If it isn't already, can this become a short 10-12 episode series of videos? I'd love to know more about Winterhold, my Archmage's home, or Tel Mithryn.
Did you known that if you defend Whiterun from the Stormcloaks, if she is present in Dragonsreach, Lydia will come down and fight without any interaction needed. Just found this out

Nate I got something special for you... the quest diplomatic immunity is by no chance a unfinished quest especially when you have to cause a distraction. But when you install the "unofficial patch" mod it adds cut content from the quest and adds other jarls and even general tullius who make some funny remarks. But this is a unique thing I found and I hope you havent covered it before.

I want to know about the sewers of Solitude. There are both grates and manholes scattered around the city and a few of them are hidden in such a way that I can't help but feel is on purpose, and must have been meant to lead somewhere. And maybe it was meant to function together with the "turn into a rat"-spell covered in a previous video.

hm I played skyrim a bunch on my xbox, I have half a mind to buy it on steam, at least then I could use mods to make things different from my console days.
They've allowed mods on skyrim now for a few years.... some pretty cool ones out there but there are obviously more on the PC. I always use a light saber mod and all i do now is just pretend im a sith or jedi thats been either transported to Tamriel or a person in Skyrim who one day becomes force sensitive and yeah

He meant with ALL the empire. Not just in skyrim
Skyrim is just one of many provinces of the Empire. If the Empire went all out, Ulfric wouldn’t stand a chance simply due to massive numbers disadvantage.
He's at war with the empire in skyrim, but not the entire empire, if a member of the empire's royal family were to die because of him the rest of the empire would attack the stormcloaks and had be screwed
its even hinted that the empire will retake skyrim anyway, if the cloaks claim a certain fort near the boarder, you can find a note talking about the impending doom of a serious imperial legion storming into skyrim. most likely to write themselves out of another paradox.
The Empire is really phoning it in for the civil war. Most of the troops in Skyrim are just Nord conscripts. If the Emperor were assassinated actual Imperial troops would be sent in and the Stormcloaks would loose in a few months.
