Jared's entered an era of rom-hacks/remakes/reimaginings of retro games and I am so here for it
Most of the new games suck, we have to go back to the ye olde good games. Rom hacks makes the said games fresh again.
likewise
I love it every time I see one of these videos pop up
Makes me both happy and sad of the possibilities. Imagine if rom hackers/gamedevs were officially hired to modernize old games. Instead, we have to pray a remake comes out and to they not take down projects like this
Small features like wide-screen, accessibility like exp up, go a long way
I was going to comment the same thing. I am so looking forward to this series.
The Final Fantasy, the Pokemon TCG, and now Zelda 2. Love these modern updates to old game series!
Hell yeah, brings back the newness to the things we loved
Same
Final fantasy?
@@aleksandrojunior9811 final fantasy Renaissance series he did a bit ago
Bomberman 2 was my childhood game 💣😄
Jared: "I'm basically a flawless expert."
Also Jared: "Oh! Oh, Oh! What the fuck is that!?"
"I'm basically a flawless expert." he says standing at the entrance of the palace with 0 XP for some reason...
Exactly! Putting the "Pro" in "ProJared" 😁
@@westingtyler2 because extra experience is wasted experience! Flawless!
actually true for a lot of speedrunners and pros. I love the fact Zelda games let you set your own difficulty IN-GAME, by you choosing to upgrade your health with heart containers or not. underrated brilliant feature. @@Serin9X
lol
Dude! What a great couple months with Jared! Pokémon TCG Neo, Final Fantasy Renaissance, and now a Remastered Zelda 2? Hell yeah!
Came here to say the same thing! I'm so hyped for this series too!!
I love this game and the randomizer he did before 😊
right?!? I don’t think I’ve ever clicked on a video so quickly
Seriously bless people making projects like this. It's awesome.
Shockingly excellent execution so far! There's so much more depth to everything while still maintaining the look and feel of the OG Zelda II (which I also adore as a staple of my childhood). It's no small feat to make a retro game broader and deeper while keeping the style and fundamental experience the same. Finding more heart and magic bits in more secret places, changes to the platforming and letting you jump on more stuff, entrances to other areas within towns and castles and the FIRST PALACE, little sprite updates, the multi-tier change to how the Candle works... just astounding. I'm completely here for this! Weeks of this: yes, please!
I never understood why Soda Popinski laughs at you when you game over.
Actually the original Zelda 2 came out before the original Punch-Out 😏.
I can't wait for weeks of watching Jerd's face light up in every episode at something new
Perfect choice specifically for a game to play for me. Can’t say for anyone else, but just thought I’d let you know for someone busy watching back episodes
Them eyes 😍
Hoverbat did such an amazing job on this version. Even going so far as to work on a linux version so it can be played on the Steam Deck without having to go through the whole step by step to get it to work.
Jared, would love to see you do a full playthrough, it's SO good.
There is a Linux version? Where?
@schwarzerritter5724 Hoverbat is working on one, but on the official discord, there is currently a workaround to get it to work on linux.
@@Shadeogray1113 I finally got it to work on Linux myself. Although the colours are messed up.
Zelda 2 deserves more love; and I'm glad that this fan project exists~
I'm glad it came out without a C&D. Hoverbat handled it perfectly. I would love to see the same love on games like Crystalis, Battle of Olympus, heck even Castlevania II could use a better one than all the current hacks we have... But the one game I've always wanted done right was Zelda II, and the dream has become a reality, so I won't complain if none of these other games ever gets this treatment. Because I have this Z2 remake in even greater glory than I could have ever dreamed up.
@@amerk6601 nintendo likely knew the game needed a remake and they refuse to make an official remake, so they let hoverbat finish and release this remake.
thank you nintendo for letting this remake occur
Please play it all, this remake is amazing. Don't assume you know everything. Talk to everybody, investigate everything just like if it's a new game. There are tons of new things all over.
ProTip: To play blind, use darkened sunglasses at night, with 40% screen brightness... or ya know use a screw driver. (but that has it's own set of cons)
That's an amazing amount of work, Well done to those that helped make this remaster. It looks like they did a great job.
Zelda is always a good watch.
If there was a remake/reimagining of Crystalis, I'd lose my mind. Thats one of my favorite RPGs from when I was a kid.
The Gameboy Color version might be worth a play?
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 played it. Wasn't impressed. I meant if it got a make over like this.
It definitely needs updating. QoL like the bracelets auto-equip when you equip a sword, certain items are passives, NO level gating mobs and bosses, no being vulnerable to only one sword, instead they just take extra damage from one sword while the rest just do neutral or less damage.
If you get in the mood to do a top ten or a quasi-highlights reel of cool mods to old games, I'd watch the heck out of that. These modded retro games you've been playing have been amazing!
Sure, I’ll watch another Zelda series 😊
Jerd at his best is playing something he loves 💜
Congrats to the maker too! Looks like such a faithful rework, you can see all kinds of little touches that reflect the ethos of the time.
Growing up, I loved Zelda 2. It was the first game I got with my own allowance, and it was during that chip shortage in the late 80s. Had to wait four months for my copy to be available, then a 100+ mile round trip to the closest town that actually had a copy available. I still play it to this day.
I'm torn between watching this and going to play it for myself. If the NES game had been like this, I think it's reputation would have stood a lot stronger. This remake is absolutely impressive.
I started watching some, but now feeling that I should play it. Uh. The intro to Zelda 2 is among the most nostalgic video game scenes there are for me, right there with eg. Gianna Sisters intro scene.
played this myself after Vinny showed this the first time in full. Real good, and got its own randomzier built in. thats quality.
I love Jared's genuine happiness when the music kicks in after he starts the game.
27:52 Ganon then proceeded to promote that Slime and so forth. =P
Just seeing the screen go wide on title screen was enough to get me hooked and excited for this playthrough. I know nothing about the remaster myself, so good luck Jared! Very excited to see how this turns out.
This was the first zelda game I ever played, had no idea what I was doing, didn't get far at all, but I loved the music
When Jared jumped and landed on the steps in front of Zelda, my brain felt the very reality of the universe being torn asunder.
Less than 5 minutes in and I'm incredibly impressed already with the additions. Definitely adding this to my list to play and share around. Excited to see more of this!
2:15 Lost the opportunity to say "Oh boy, smooching time!"
This is hands down my favorite fan remake. I just love how polished it is and the amount of extra content/mechanics is awesome!
I actually kind of enjoy Zelda 2 more than the original NES Zelda because I remember most of the secrets more. I do love the rest of the series (at least the ones I have played) so this should be great!
zelda 2 is a classic in its own right. wish nintendo would make a new zelda 2 sequel. like how capcom made mega man 9 and 10.
I always heard how this was the black sheep of the series, but i got it on the 3ds and i actually enjoyed it a lot. This should be a fun watch
Hell yeah! I remember waiting for the original Zelda 2 to be released
So glad you're coming back. Internet hasn't been the same without you
Yes! I’m so glad you’re playing this now! I love this remake so so much
It's all the little pieces of flourish in this remaster that I love about it. The little chains on the elevators moving in 2 different directions, is my favorite thus far.
This is so cool! I can tell John Riggs would LOVE this game. Now if only Castlevania 2 would get the same treatment.
This batch or remakes/reimaginings makes me wanna bust out my laptop and check these out. And see what else is out there. Just gotta find the time😊
I hope there are a bunch of these types of remakes/reimagines of retro games.
I would watch Jared play them all.
I played this a bit a while ago, haven't gone back to it but It was really impressive. I'll enjoy watching Jerd play this and struggle at the beginning like I did.
*Jerd immediately discovers an in retrospect obvious secret under the palace that I missed*
...Uh oh.
Pokémon tcg was a treat and now this? These new old combos are killing❤
I am looking forward to seeing this! I’ve never played these older Zelda games so it’s always fun to watch your content 😊
Thank you for the super thanks!
30:20 suddenly turned into Elecman's stage..
Always enjoy seeing Zelda 2 pop up. This was the first Zelda game I ever played and it holds a special place in my heart. Link to the Past might be my favourite but this is the game I think about when I think of Zelda.
Jared! I've been playing, here's a few tips:
- Even tho it's called Zelda you play as Link!! I know right
- The game has a save feature, so you don't need to finish in one go!
- Your sword shoots tiny swords when your health is full! (don't ask me how does it work...)
Glad to help and follow your requests!
How could you? After he asked nicely... Oh my goodness!
Am I wrong for seeing this and thinking "Aight, it's time to remaster Takeshi's Challenge"? 😂❤
I love this era of remastering old classics. Simply wonderful.
This is amazing, both the game and the playthrough! I'm looking forward to the coming episodes.
And yeah, the bouncy boys had the stray red pixel in the original too.
We definitely want to see the entire playthrough. You're awesome Jared. We can't wait to see your sanity switch to insanity. Zelda 2 is immensely criminally underrated
Damn, this looks amazing! I should try it out for myself.
And I love how this starts out normal, then expands to widescreen. It makes me think of that Strong Bad Email where he does the same to show his flashback.
This is gonna be great to watch (and play through myself). I eagerly also await the eventual Randomizer Run of this game.
I do hope that Final Fantasy VI: Brave New World is coming eventually. That is such an amazing experience to play that game through with.
More Zelda! Love to see it! 🏹
WOOT!!! Been waiting for you to dig into this one! Can't wait!!
The Zelda 2 randomizer series was an all-time ProJared classic. Looking forward to this series!
Zelda 2 is one of my favorite NES games. I still play the game like once a year just for fun. Seeing this remake just blows my mind. The creator did an amazing job. Going to give this a try.
I immediately started to play this on my own! This is one of my favorite games! Can't wait to watch you play more!
Ah man this is so cool. This has been on my list to get around to play so I'll probably only watch the first ep to not spoil too much. Even just so far it's amazing what they've done with it so far. Zelda 2 is so damn good and this makes it look even better
Hoverbat did a really good job making this re-imagining!
So glad Jerd is finally playing this! HoverBat is amazing!
this is awesome. a dream. like nintendo updated it 30 years later and just added modernization and content, but still the classic.
This is one of the best reimaginings we've seen so far, excited for more!
Had a strong impression of a certain flash cartoon series at the start with the revelation of widescreen...
And, really Jerd? Slimes? Slimes killed you. Maybe Jim deserves some slack after that? =3c
I was so hoping you would play this! Super excited to see the differences between this and the original, and of course, Jared’s reactions to them all!
There is a Zelda link to the past rom hack that is well worth being added to this collection of retro fan made games. It's called Link to the Past: Hylian Legacy. Heavily recommend!
Yessss! I have rewatched your ranfomized series for this game like 3 times. So good!
one thing you should definetly look at, as it is shown in the page, is the options menu and the alternate sound/music track. worth a check.
This is awesome. I almost didn't watch this thinking it was the randomizer but im so glad your doing another run of aol and whoever made this this a beautiful job on the game
I played this a few months ago, it's absolutely fantastic. Also really enjoyed the IsabelleChiming alternate soundtrack, which is also amazing.
This is basically THE definitive version of Zelda 2 now.
Yes, finally! I've been waiting for you to play this. I'm going to enjoy this one. Thanks for playing it.
I've been waiting for this series and have been trying to avoid spoilers so I can watch it here. From one Zelda II fan to another thanks for playing this.
Fun fact: the reason why you start at the great palace if you die there but not anywhere else us that the great palace, along with the title and menu screens, is on side A.
I LOVE THESE SO MUCH!!
Ya are Awesome Jared!!
I love the small touches like there’s a little bit of sand on the palace entrance. I love Zelda 2 and it’s gonna be interesting to see all the things that’s new
This is going to be a great series! Seeing Jared play a Zelda game always makes me happy.
This is cool! I've gotta get myself this when I get internet back at my place.
0:05 "this (game) has way too much historical significance to be shown in anything but WIIIDESCREEEEEN!
Left side BWAAAAAH
Right side BWAAA- hey what are you doing over there?"
Jared's genuine enthusiasm and love for these games is evident in the video and it is a joy to watch. That slime is a killer though.
I've only ever experienced Zelda II from other LP channels, but this is the first time I've ever wanted to actually play it for myself. They've made so many QoL changes from the original and it looks so fun. I can't wait to see more.
Games like this are why i watch Jerd. This looks amazing, we need extra long episodes!
Just downloaded it thx man gunna play when I get home tonight after work!!
I'm Super excited to see You play this version.
WOW! This is amazing!! Please play this all the way through Jared!
Love remixes/re-imaginings like this of older games.
dude this is my favourite Zelda! This is going to rule! I just realized i think this is the only game you start with the master sword
I've been waiting for you to play this!!
Have been suggesting it a while back. This needs so much more exposure than it currently has. This and FFR strike an awesome balance between a remake and a ROM hack. You get more qol changes, the game still feels and plays fundamentally the same, but has a bit of bonus content.
@6:04 is the very moment Jared realized there are more theengs to collect than before!
I am reminded of an old wise Adventurer's saying,
GOOD ADVENTURER'S GO LEFT!
OMG!!! I LOVE the additions they made to this. This game is my childhood, i was literally screaming things to you while i watch you 39:38 playing hahaha. Thanks.😂
This game is a blast. Looking forward to a terrific run!
4:30 . Alrightynthis is pretty cool!
"There's still a full heal hairy Fairy....."
And just how would YOU know that, Jerd? :P
Thank you very much, Jerd! This is amazing! 🥳 more of this would be super sweet!
I'm looking forward to the eventual randomizer run.
I had not even heard of this being a thing! This is awesome! To see such love given to the most underappreciated Zelda game is phenomenal! This actually got my attention enough that it came off of my second screen to get full attention.
Point 1:Bits and Bots (red and blue slimes) in Palaces have always been tougher than the ones in the overworld.
Point 2: They also always infinitely respawn, as do bats (Aches) and Myu (the tiny spike creature you normally can only kill with downthrust).
Yes! So glad you got this one. It's so good. Dang looks like it's gotten more changes and upgrades since I played.
I started this a while ago but never got to finishing it. I like it, though so far I'm not a hundred percent about the changes. Looking forward to this playthrough!
I can already tell this is gonna be an awesome series!
The joy on this man's face as he discovers these new additions in a classic game is the vibe the world needs right now.
Was never a huge Zelda 2 fan, but this looks fun!
I played Zelda 2 for the first time in 2021 and had fun before giving up to difficulty. Now we got this amazing project and I wanna play all over again!! Let's keep it going Jerd!
Yes! Really looking forward to this series!
zelda 2 and lttp my two favs, one change i wish they did in zelda 2 is the death screen. always freaked me out as a kid and still do to this day, and no im not talking about the game over screen.
I’m so excited for Zelda 2! These are my favourite playthroughs
