Jared STILL skipping the Life Upgrades is pain. I'm excited for when he has every other stat maxed out but goes "What if there's a Bonus for hitting 9999 XP"
"everything hurts!" [proceeds to damage boost of all enemies and avoid leveling up HP]
To be fair, there IS a bonus lol
Jared don’t read this
Spoiler alert!!!
Yes there is, it’s an extra life
That was there in the original
life is for losers 😂
Jared: "I need 700 xp to level up."
Me: "Well the boss is probably worth a few hundred, could kill him first then go back through the palace to get the rest before putting the crystal away."
Jared: "Better go back through palace before I fight the boss."
Perfection.
Actually, it was a good thing he did that, because he did die on the boss.
@@Hei_Darkfire He only loses XP on a GAME OVER, not a death. He had 4 extra lives left at the end.
@@ChibiTailsYes, defeating the boss would've saved the need to hunt down those Darknuts.
Ugh, I’m yelling at a CZcams it’s so frustrating to watch.
@@Incubate31not as frustrating as backseat gamers being annoying bitches in every comment section ever
jarad once again turning 2 level ups in to one
it's so painful to watch lol
There's a lot that frustrates me with his game play, but only because my approach would be different. However, I can't argue with the results.
Jared waiting for those bouncy balls to get within stabbing range makes me think of that screensaver where the DVD logo bounces around and eventually hits a corner.
If I could go back in time and change anything I would make it so that screensaver NEVER touches the corner perfectly
"No no, dig UP stupid!"
CLASSIC Simpsons!
I like how the lost child is still just chillin in Link's inventory xD
The child thinks it’s more fun adventuring with Lank than staying home. 😂
@@tljscrewjob6397 *Kid pops his head out of Lank's inventory bag* Are we there yet?
@@Tailstraw_xD 😂 Exactly!
You heard of pocket sand. Say hello to POCKET CHILD!
I've heard good things about the 2nd quest. I really hope you decide to do videos on it ❤
"Oh good! This boss was a complete joke before!"
Glad you like these changes, Jared! They're so nice...
I think he would have made use of a whole lot more free XP if he just took the Life Up level for 2500 and then used the end of the dungeon crystal to get the next level from scratch
That would've netted him 2 Life Ups (2500 and 4000 XP respectively while Attack Up needed 5000) and he really wanted that Attack Up.
He still could have taken that life up, gotten the dungeon crystal, not use that level up and only need 1000 for the attack
@@tylerprince6371Right.
Yeah, and he's done this before in this games Let's Play.
I always thought of those floating heads as panthers because they look like the Thundercats logo
So Projared… umm… Hydlide 3 got a version dropping on the switch in couple days 😂
Jared: I will level up and get another after the boss.
Not five minutes later.
Jared: I'm gonna go for the attack up and not level.
"Greed" rhymes with "Jerd"!
>Jared trying to game the system by skipping the life up again.
Jared noooooo 😭
I 100% agree that the flying heads look like panthers, you're not dumb jar jar.
The biggest problem of Zelda 2: not enough arrows...
At least it's not Wind Waker. Waaaay too much water.
RIP the 10 arrow meme. For now. 😂
@glacialbae yeah. Real 7/10 game, that Wind Waker.
@@Merik2013I’d say a 7.8/10
@@zapunknown It's a 9/10 for me. I really like Wind Waker.
ProJared: "Whatever you wanna call it."
Me: "Legend of Zelda 2: The Re-Linkening"
Funny thing is, I do believe the official title of the fangame is The Legend of Zelda 2: Link is Adventuresome, but I never see it used around CZcams.
"Watch me die along the way" Zelda II slogan: The journey isn't saving Hyrule, it's the deaths you've made along the way.
This game just keeps on giving, so good.
3:45 they are called _Mau_ so I'm thinking panther heads, yeah.
They're supposed to be wolf heads but my brain only sees panther ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@nanoglitch6693 the 'official' art for this game was clearly not done by the enemies' creators. check out the one that is clearly a tittybird and they interpreted it as a Flatwoods Monster.
Something I noticed about those Mau (dog heads) in the pre-boss room is that the ones that are part of the background have white eyes, but the ones that attack you don't.
It's easy to miss, but it's a neat little detail.
Dude, this is my favorite let's play since your Illusion of Gaia let's play! I totally want to play this mod!
it's not a mod but a fan remake and same
Good lord this series is absolutely riveting. I really wish it was one per day but at least I can watch a new episode more than once a week without 15 mins of commercials like SatAM
I thought they where panthers too Jared, you're not alone xD
I didn't even think twice until you just said it now LOL
18:32 I used to play house like that too, in Castlevania. When I leveled up enough and got all the travel abilities, I felt like it was my castle.
Game has so many new and hidden areas, that make it quiet fun to play
This mod is fantastic, it just keep giving fun stuff to do, thank Jerd and keep this series going ✌🏼
They totally look like panthers, bro! And remember, Jungle Book on VHS was dope when this game came out so of course we were all seeing panthers
Lava bubbles. Just as dangerous as regular bubbles. Somehow.
Eh, I just go with the notion that they're toxic gasses that harm link or something.
Absolutely loving this playthrough. This mod creator really understands what made Zelda 2 so great and what its major shortcomings were.
Loving how this series has progressed! Shoutouts to the developer again for this complete reimagining.
There were a couple rooms that had Jaguar heads and unicorn/dragon heads on the walls. I bet they played a role in wherever the orange slime appeared.
Loving this playthrough. What a great update for a game that sorely needed a remake.
On this episode, Jared skips a life level up, discovers what the minigames have been training him for, and defeats a whole Klan of wizards, including the Grand Wizard, by reflecting their own hate back onto them and proving they can't take what they dish out.
He defeated the Ku Klux Klan and their Grand Vizier.
Jared, about the slimes. Killing them all will allow you access to a special item. I know you don't want spoilers, so the only hint I will say is that you need to go back to the castle where Zelda is sleeping and search EVERYWHERE. Good luck. I downloaded this thanks to you and enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
Having the video on the TV with my fuzzy 4 month old. He calmed down and just looked at the TV slowly falling asleep to it :)
This playthrough has gotten me to play through this version of it. Got to say I have been super impressed with it. The changes have been fun and interesting. The only I wish is there was some kind of manual to see what these items are supposed to do. The book took me a while to understand myself.
Well, speaking of items from the original game, the townspeople you can talk to always have someone explain what an item does. Someone will tell you that the hammer can break rocks and that it can clear a forest. Someone will tell you the boots let you walk on water, etc. So in terms of the old items it sticks to standard RPG mechanics of gaining info by talking to people.
It terms of things exclusive to the new version I feel that some of them are self-explanatory, and some of them are obvious if you've played other LOZ games, which I feel Hoverbat is assuming you've played if you're playing a remaster of the black sheep of the Zelda franchise(though I've always liked it myself). Like the book you mention is the Book of Mudora originally from "A Link to the Past." It served the purpose of translating the Hylian text that lets you get into the Desert Temple, get some Medallions, and check the Master Sword podium inscription. So if you know what it does in ALTTP, you'd assume it serves the same purpose in this game.
(Some mild spoilers ahead!!!)
Though I admit there were two new items it took me a while to figure out the purpose of. One was meat, originally from Zelda 1. In that game it's only used to get into a dungeon by giving it to a hungry guy blocking the way. However, in this game it serves an entirely different purpose of sometimes showing up on the overworld and acting as bait so you have less battles. I kept trying to collect the thing and getting frustrated that the enemies kept swarming around it until it finally clicked.
The other is an amulet. As far as I know, it's not in any other Zelda game. It gives you a passive effect that you're not likely to notice right away unless you're paying attention, then you realize it's one of the best item in the entire game. Since you already have the book it's might be accessible to you now, though I think you need one more spell to actually access it.
@@kyuubinaruto17 The magic regen could stand to be a bit better as in other playthrough it took almost 2 minutes to see the magic meter even tick up.
@@Rokabur What? Arer you talking about moving at all, or filling an entire unit? Because it goes up by 2 points about every 10 seconds for me.
9:36 I feel that there may be something in that room that Jared missed. Just a hunch.
For real? I tried a lot in that room and nothing.
Feels a lot like a slime room, but sure hope there is an NPC telling you the solution somewhere in the world. That's a lot to brute force.
@@davidmcgill1000 I think there was a former room similar to this where there was a slime.
Carock is defeated and 4th temple is completed.
Things to remember from 1st game:
1> some of the heads, that look like decorations in the 4th temple, drop (red) magic jars when struck with link's sword.
Jared fights well, but jumps badly.
I am absolutely loving this! Love all the cool and thoughtful upgrades to a classic game. I'm all about it!
8:30 I'm forever blowing bubbles.... Pretty bubbles in the air.
Zelda 2 has Always been a game that I loved and hate at the same time for over 30 years But this fan mod of the game is one of the best I have ever seen I will be playing this. Also Keep up the Great work Jared.
You look up JACKASS and those knife throwing soldiers should have a picture right next to them 😂😂😂
Things are about to pop off!! I'm so ready for the next few episodes.
Always a pleasure when Jared drops a new Zelda 2 episode
Still very much enjoying this! It’s taken me this long though to understand why my brain goes ‘ping’ at the lives left screen when you die but the game itself doesn’t… it’s the randomiser death counter noise 😂😂
Yeah this series is super entertaining
Another episode of "Jared Doesn't Understand Math" hurrrray 😂❤
Pretty cool to see the boss Wizrobe get turned into an actual boss instead of a joke.
Place your bets now: How long will it take Jared to remember he already met Anju?
Practically at the start, even. lol
1:52 *facepalms* Gotta love how Jared doesn't think. Me: Leave the Palace and come back in, to get the magic instead. You know, heal yourself and refill your magic."
Thanks for continuing to make fun content. It's something I look forward to.
It bugs the SHIT out of me how all the elevators aren't flush with the floor. Could you imagine having to step up into an elevator, like what's even the point that elevator's a staircase bro 😂
I always had to press down whenever I stepped on one while walking past as a kid so I could squish it down to the floor.
This has been a great way to relive a game from my childhood
Well, guess that one room was added to make the upstab less useless. Nice.
18:19 Don’t jinx it Jared…
My favorite type of your content is the first time watching you play a game you know well. FF1, 6, 9 are among my favs. But those are only good once. I could watch you replay quality remakes of games you know well, as its own channel with daily uploads. These have been a DELIGHT!
All the slimes have me intrigued
Fun fact the reflect spell also works for the doom knockers
I love that we’re playing Legend of Zelda, but out of nowhere Sim City Jerd drops by to discuss rising property values with us
Strictly as a viewer of this reimagining and played the original upon release in the late '80s, to me that room prior to Carock (Boss) was cryptic enough to withhold a "Secret Slime", or may just ingeniously have led me to feel such. Kudos to the game master who put this all together. It's so well-done!
As far as I know there is disappointingly no secret there, the breakable blocks are only there as a backtrack shortcut.
@@Nicholas_Steel Good to know, thanks! One aspect of this reimagining I like a lot though is it's thought-provoking. Is there a cryptic puzzle here or not? Keeps you on your toes as a player consistently.
ZELDA PANOPLY is a game that exists
It is a Hidden Gem that has gone under jareds radar for over 7 years now
Can we please throw a little love its way too?
(In the meantime, I am loving this run too)
22:44 777 for all stats!
15:01 Double ki… uh never mind 😂
God it's so satisfying to watch and hear those XP points go up when you defeat an enemy 😊 Not to mention the levels themselves! Man, if every NES game had a reward for getting points (and not a free man every 100,000 that's boring)
I am going to drop a hint.
Somewhere in the world is a hidden location that the wizard who turned you into a chicken ran to. You can find him and upgrade your Fairy spell
It is a real blast watching you play this and i Look forward to you doing a randomized run (assuming you do one) of this game!
8:33 NOT THE BUBBLES!
I can't wait until he finds the other piece of the map. Given he already bought the first piece, saw what it did, and *talked* to the NPC, who mentioned it was only part of the map, it's not a spoiler that there's another piece and self-explanatory what it will do
his life bar is constantly lower than his magic... but he constantly passes on leveling up life... im sure theres no connection
Great play through! Lots of fun! Thanks!
That was fun, but I'm really looking forward to more overworld treasure hunting next time.
I use the high jump against wizzrobe, more time to choose where to land and more time for blocks to respawn while you're midair.
Noticed some of that audio skipping from your mic in this one, that happened on some of the streams too a while back. No clue if it's just my laptop dying or what.
Edit 22:55 happens at around 57
@17:30 huh. Today I learned (6 enemies and you get a bottle of magic). Is this like bombs in Zelda 1 where you have to not get hit?
It's cool how the way they rebalanced an easy boss was just to make a single, small change to his attack pattern and a slight adjustment to the arena to prevent cheese, and that's all that's needed to actually make it a real fight.
I’m guessing that panther head room with all the torches and jumps is some sort of puzzle to get an orange slime
OMFG! Just leave the damn dungeon and go back in, every enemy will respawn!
Hey, Jared! Have you played Misadventures of Tron Bonne for us yet? I'd love to see it!
Maybe the heads in the room before the boss need to be opposite of the torch and something spawns? Or something? Seems like a puzzle.
I never questioned that they weren't panther heads until now. o_O
Yeah so I didn't consider there might be something more to that room when I went through and now I need to go back and try some things. Darn it.
Red Wizard has a gambling problem confirmed? Why else would he be working for an Evil Pigman after saving the world from Chaos after all?
The orange slime might have been in that new room where you killed the heads. Perhaps you were supposed to go through without killing them.
While I don’t normally agree with pointless backtracking I completely agree with the decision to get that attack level up
He's not alone. I always thought those were panther looking heads too.
next games can maybe be "BloodStained" it plays like SotN or maybe 'Ogre Tactics" since it was where Square got the idea for Final Fantasy Tactics and both play the same.
Highly enjoying this playthrough. Looking forward to the next video 😁
This remaster is super cool.
I may also have had a similar reaction to a certain room...
I've heard good things about the 2nd quest. I really hope you decide to do videos on it ❤
I just got to second quest. But I am mad because I missed one secret item south of the final temple with the triforce symbol which was probably unlocked by the master sword but I didn't try it. No bonus for 9999, maybe a temporary extra life but wasn't ever dying by that point with the mirror shield, magic Regen, red ring, master sword etc, so it was irrelevant. Level 9 is the max for all stats. So I took a break on my third day after starting and will probably get back at it soon.
Also the boulder combo changes on the second quest. I don't know about the hylian language unlockable things. I should have written down the spell combos to to see if it was the same on second quest
The Zelda 2 enemy names have always been weird, even compared to the Zelda 1 names
Really enjoying this series! Keep up the great work!
This is still awesome.
8 and 16 bit games just looked so different on CRTs, even worse if it had a problem like a washed out picture or even over bright/dark. So it's not wonder that things looked different back then and not like what you thought they were.
I was looking at this guy digging through those blocks and I was like... "Terraria is basically just a Zelda 2 clone".
i like that they increase the boss to 401 pts and not the same 301 u beat rebonack in palace 3
Hey, Jared!
They're called Wizards, huh? Does that make the boss the Grand Wizard?
Sorry, but you have to admit the similarity is there.
I see you never check under the tables in house. I do remember in the OG at least one time there was something under a table, you should check them!
Jerd acting my fashion idol as always 🕴️
Jared, use the jewel level up for the HIGHER numbers, not the lower ones
