AC / Heat Air Not Blowing? Only Some Blower Speeds Working?
These are the two most common symptoms of a blower speed resistor that needs to be changed.
This video will show you how to fix the air not blowing or blower speeds not working by replacing the blower speed resistor on the following Chevrolet models:
2002 GMC Yukon
2003 GMC Yukon
2004 GMC Yukon
2005 GMC Yukon
2006 GMC Yukon

One of the clearest, cleanest, no BS, no time wasted watching you unscrew/screw screws, videos I’ve seen. Excellent “how to” video. Thanks
Thank You!
@@PYR-Autowhat’s the part number for that new connector
Great video! Clear voice and slowly explaining every step - which is perfect for complete novices like myself!
Thanks!
Perfect video I almost replaced the mode actuator until I noticed that it was moving in between AC and heat, but I still wasn’t getting any type of airflow from my vents so I’m glad I found your video. If not, I would’ve ordered the wrong part.
Glad it helped
To get the orange tab plug on the blower motor you should pop out the blower motor and twist it toward you to unhook. You also have to remove the resistor to take it completely out
Thank you beyond belief for showing the clips and how to undo them. Those are always a mystery.
Glad it helped
@@PYR-Auto oh and I fixed my air in about 15 min thanks to your video.
Gonna do this tomorrow. i have the digital type of a/c Selector getting zero air flow unless im driving down the road. Hope it works. Rhanks for a great video!
Really good explanation. Very well filmed and explained slowly for us newbies. Thanks
Thanks! Glad it helped
Thanks you so much dude its been 5 years my ac hasn't work I did like this video and it works now
You're welcome! Glad it helped
Great video
May I please ask what size the bolts are when taking off the beginning cover where you take out two and loosen the third?
I liked the video, but the controls shown and the underneath of the Yukon model shown (do not know what year it was) in the video isn't even close to the controls and underneath the glove box in my 2002 Yukon, so it was difficult to figure out what needed to be removed to reach the resistor.
How do you test the resistor ? Or test the fan? Great helpful video….but not sure which I need to replace. Thanks so much…Bill
Not sure how to test it honestly - I always just replace the resistor first if I'm in doubt as they are pretty cheap if purchased online
hey man my gmc yukon 2002 the air and heater works but only comesout throught the defroster help!
This was very help, thank you!!
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Very helpful video thanks!! But what if it's the defroster only on and doesn't switch to regular vents?
Not sure what specific part would be the issue in that case, sorry
Mode actuator it’s above your gas pedal
I just checked out your video and hopefully it will help me. Anyway, I have a 2006 Yukon Denali XL and the rear is blowing, but not blowing in the front. Could it be the blower or do you think it’s the resistor? The compressor is coming on and I just changed the (green) 40amp fuse under the hood. Thanks
it could be either if you have no blowing at any speeds. If only some speeds are blowing then its likely a resistor
I hope this is what's wrong :( it's like blowing cold air but very very low and I can't change it to high. It just stays blowing very low . I may try this idk. UT what part is it?
Thanks for this video 💪🏿
You're Welcome!
Mine went to only working on 5. Then after a while nothing. I now have replaced the resistor, the control module, and checked the fuses and still the blower does not work at any speed.
What is next? replace the blower motor?
That sounds more like a resistor but if you are sure everything else is fine that a blower motor would be the next step
Run 12 volts pos and negative to the first wire connector off the blower.switching wires changes blower direction. Blower should come on if nothing happens replace blower
Thank you
You're Welcome!
I'm tired of dealing with all this resistor horseshit to be honest. My 06 Denali had so many wiring problems I was ready to burn it to the ground at a point or two, but once I discovered the replacement rear blower resistor from Delphi "OEM parts for God sake" came from the manufacturer pined out wrong (which instantly blew out the fuse in the engine bay fuse block), and the dreaded "Orange Power Wire resistance Fail" (found usually burned up at the connection pin points in the main power bus connector inside the drivers side kick panel), things started to move along. But all of a sudden its winter and now I've lost heating ability thanks to another GD part $#!%ing the bed.
Besides having to join the GM cult forums to find a sacred answer lost in time, WTF is really causing all these problems.... ? In my opinion it's in both the power busses and grounding terminals losing out to resistance via carbonization and the monkeys that chose under amp rated wiring harnesses that burn up...
Seriously, if one more things goes bad on the jalopy I'm going to rip their BS out and install a proper PID controlled system that uses a brushless rc jet turbine that will blow the top off this B!@#$%. Damn,,, I guess it kinda pisses me off huh
If the air doesn’t blow at any speeds, could there be another issue?
This is awesome!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have a quick ? for you. On my 2002 Sierra duramax some of the blower speeds don’t work and it doesn’t blow air out of the front vents at all. Is this what I need to buy to fix my problem as well? Thanks. Max.
A resistor is definitely a possibility. There could also be an issue with the blower motor itself.
@@PYR-Auto I bought the resistor. Hopefully this fixes my problem. Thanks for your help. Max.
Good luck!
I'm having issues with the wires connected directly to the blower where you popped out the orange clip. I replaced this less than a yr ago🤦♀️ and I have to move them around in order for the blower to push air out. Can those be fixed or do they need to be replaced again🙄
sounds like it may need to be replaced
Hate how CZcamsrs say "what's up" they always say it in a weird way just for CZcams but not how you would say what's up in real life. But like 95% of CZcamsrs say it
Hi sorry to ask this but I’m in a real tight spot and need a quick temp fix I believe my A/C panel has gone bad and the fan select switch is not working is it ok are what the best way to straight wire the blower motor under the dash and put it on a switch so I can use my a/c until I get a new panel I have a 2014 Chevy equinox so I have to replace the whole panel thanks for your input
Really not sure on that, sorry
Find the wires coming out of the blower motor disconnect at the first spot you can using two wires apply 12 volts negative and positive if you put them on wrong way it'll just spin the wrong way don't worry you won't have control your just have full speed this way that's probably what you want anyway right so you may have to run a switch to 12 volts to the clutch on the AC also just two wires negative and positive that's it
2001 GMC Yukon xl 5.3
So I have a tad bit of heat coming through vent when fan selector is at 0 and heat is set to max, no air at 1 2 or 3. Then boom 4 and 5 blow cold air and not heat.. is this related??🙏🏽🙏🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
the air not blowing at 1, 2 or 2 sounds like a bad resistor, but I have not really seen a bad resistor case the air to blow cold so that may be a different issue
Sounds like you might have to problems a blending door problem and a resistor problem
@@johnhalchishick7094 can you be more specific? That could be what's wrong with mine as well. Thanks in advance.
My blower motor wont turn on brand new and brand new Resistor
PART NUMBER?
Where do you buy new resistors for the front and rear?
I bought mine off of Ebay
Ever sene my battery died its not blowing air at all and sometimes would blow air good and just stop again ugh wtf
What about if all 5 of my controls not turning on
It could be a bad resistor - it could be also the blower motor.
Will it work on a 1996 I'm a girl trying to learn how to work on my own vehicle people say they will help me but when it's time they do half fast jobs my right blinker light doesn't worki keep telling people I think it has a short well one person whent and did I don't know what but know my lights in the dash board goes on I don't even have to turn my light on he took out my stereo was going to put in another one that never happened got mad because nun of lights were working old him to stop but I'm just trying to fix my yukon by my self thank u Guadalupe
No - this for the 2002 - 2006 Yukon
My ac blows at high speed but at a lower speed or stopped it doesn't blow, I know the compressor works cause it creates condensation. I checked all my fuses and was thinking of the blower, you think this here video might be the same thing
Yeah, it sounds like it could be
You mean replace. Not fix. I need fix. I can't replace
What year is your yukon???
The suburban in the video is a 2004.
Did this and got hot air on driver side and cold on passenger
You may have other issues - this resistor controls the fan blower speed not the temperature control
