  • The Canon 80D is almost two years old and is one of the foundational cameras on this platform. It's inspired a whole generation of content creators to go out and make videos. But its getting pretty long in the tooth and there are several contenders out there even from Canon itself.
The M50 on the other hand has been out for almost a year, has basically the exact same video features, and costs almost half as much. Oh and its almost half the size!
Which one works better as a online content/youtube camera? Lets find out!

If you're a photographer and wanna take pics for clients, 80D would be a better choice because it's big, feels better to hold, it definitely looks more professional than the small light m50 camera in the eyes of most clients who don't know anything about photography and cameras because they would think that the m50 is similar to the one they might have at home which is a regular affordable digital camera.

I can say something only about 80D and it is an amazing camera. It's bigger, but it means more buttons which turns it easier to use. That second screen is very useful when I photograph by the viewfinder, it shows important informations and settings. It's a complete camera and I recommend it for everyone.

Great comparison! If you can't decide....get both 😀 I own both and really like both for different reasons....and with adapters I share many lenses. The 80d is a joy to use because even though it is big in the hand, all the controls are intuitive and easy to use and for photography and bigger lenses it's great. For travel and vlogging and gimbal work the M50 is great.
Two recommendations...buy the M50 NOW with kit lens and the Canon EF-M to EF adapter for $649...best price ever at B&H and Amazon. One advantage of buying at B&H is that you can get Canon CarePak warranty for 3 years for under $100 and you have 90 days to decide. Also, Viltrox came out with a speed booster for the M50!.

Rookie Racers I've been looking at several CZcams videos on cameras that compete with the Canon M50 (price range $500-$600) and I got to say the M50 has it all. Negatives - maybe it's made of a cheaper material than some [not verified] , dual pixel doesn't work in 4k [1080p for me] , a little smaller than the typical DSLR [I want something light n small] , those are minor things to me. Positives- Canon's latest processor digic 8, the quality of the videos and pictures, full rotation of the screen, easy-to-use, and not bulky convinced me that this is the camera for me and Everyday Dad uses it! Hell anything is upgrade from my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. That's what I've been filming my content on. LOL! Santa Claus will be getting me the Canon M50, I hope.

  • @FunWithTheBugs
    @FunWithTheBugs Před 5 lety +18

Great comparison vid! The M50 really looked good up against the 80D! As a prior owner of the 77D which also had digital stabilization, I will say it worked pretty well. People mention being able to do the same thing in post but it takes so long if you wanted to fix stabilization in post for a video. It's great to have it in camera.
Where it is really going to shine is using it in 4K on a camera that does not have a crazy crop. That little bit of crop you get from digital stabilization won't effect PQ at all when recording in 4K.
While I am currently using a Sony a6500, I will say you would never know this camera has in-body stabilization when recording handheld video. It's still so shaky.
I just wish the M50 would had a little more to it. I gave it a tough look but it just had a few short comings that kept me away from it.

I strongly prefer my Canon EOS 80D it is quite large because I typically use my Sigma 18 to 35 F 1.8 lens. I find the bigger camera is easier to use and it sort of balances itself when you use a Joby tripod in a vlogging style.
Both are really great cameras and it was nice to see them compared. I would love to do 4k because I like to do a lot of close-up crop shots but I don't find it terribly important to me right now.

I bought a used 80D for £580 10 months ago (BARGAIN). Paired with the 24mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8 (both STM) it covers everything I need it for. I'm primarily a photographer so the 24mm comes up close to a standard 35mm lens when you take the 1.6x crop factor into consideration - AWESOME. The 80D is solid, can handle being thrown around, is weather sealed (apparently) and the controls are similar to a lot of the bigger full frame (not mirrorless) Canon cameras.
I had a quick play on the M50 recently and it just felt small and fiddly in my hands!

I think that is the logical conclusion from a video perspective. But, to add the perspective of a still-photographer, for me it's the 80D where its size is in proportion to excellent EF lenses. Even if that weren't the case, though my hands are relatively small, I prefer a camera of size substance since I find the handling and holding far more sure.

I am probably going to do some videos about the m50 myself. I picked one up on a whim and the thing is a SURPRISING little beast. 80D records in ALL-I codec, so there are some situations where it can be a bit better but the actual difference is so minimal and for CZcams content as a "vlogging" camera nobody is going to know the difference.

M50 looks nice but I love my 80d. On your rx100 m5, when you shot this video, do you shoot in HD or 4K? Picture looks great. I was wondering about the 5 min limitation in 4K and shooting your video. I assume you’re shooting in HD with it?

Hello. It's been 5 years now, but I'm asking the same question. Now I have a Canon 600D, and I no longer lack its capabilities (of course 😅). I choose between 77D and M50. My main task is to shoot photos (I want to shoot commercials: portraits, family scenes on order). The video is most likely secondary (although I don’t know for sure). There is no money for a full frame yet. What do you recommend from these two devices? The bad ergonomics of the M50 and the lack of control buttons, as it is on the 77D, scares me. However, they tell me from everywhere: "2023, buy a mirrorless camera"

I have the 80D and am thinking about buying the M50. It's so much smaller! The only thing I'm not sure about - if the M lenses are good or if I would only use my big Sigma lenses etc.

Is your opinion the same? Now I choose between 77D and M50. I'm going to do commercial shooting and 600D is not enough anymore. Everyone says that I should choose the M50, but I don't like that it has an awkward grip and few buttons. What can you say about this?

Look. M50 may be good, do you consider the battery life on that camera when vlogging? Which one is better? For me as a photographer, the M50 is my choice because it have more focus points. But the downside is battery life. With 80D and dslr generally speaking, they have a great battery life on single charge.

I have both of them today, both can shoot raw but I can’t really tell you which one is better for photography since I’m a videographer, but M50 is better because it is lighter and it does the same thing as 80d when it comes to video.

As a Videographer, I would recommend getting the m50 specially if you’re shooting for a long time since 80d is really heavy , you’re gonna be tired easily. M50 is really light and the quality is good, just get a viltrox so you can fit your L lenses to M50.

I bought my girlfriend an M50. Hands down it is insane for a small camera. DSLR are very hefty so taking it out and shooting quick was not ideal. I barely use my SLR now cause of this. Same or better quality in Lightroom to me than cameras from the last 8 years. It is as great quality as a 1DX in my comparison.
