    30:25 It was slightly more complicated than that in the old canon. Different authors had different approaches, of course, but the series that dealt most thoroughly with the subject was the Republic Commando tie-in novels. And the thesis-statement for those was essentially "You can't program people. They can only be _trained._ "
    The clones were trained from the beginning to accept authority and to follow orders, and to suppress any feelings they might have about it. As is true of any human hierarchy, they were trained to accept on faith that whoever was giving the order had a bigger picture than what was available to a single soldier. So when the Commander In Chief calls you on a secure channel, and orders you to execute one of 150 Contingency Orders that have been drilled into you since the moment you were capable of conscious thought, and you've known no other life _but_ following orders... then you'll obey without question. So sure, they technically had a choice... the same way we _all_ have a choice when we are complicit in injustice, but look the other way because the alternative is anarchy.
    It even makes sense from a tactical standpoint. If the Jedi ever turned traitor and became enemies of the the Republic (and Palpatine is on the holonet within hours, presenting proof of exactly that), then they have to be neutralized quickly and by surprise.. You can't take a Jedi prisoner; they don't stay where you put them. Lethal force is the only option.
    Now, in fairness, clones and Jedi were seldom depicted as being so buddy-buddy as they are in The Clone Wars cartoon. In the latter, it always frustrated me that the writers seemed to think we should let the Jedi off the hook for being totes okay with using enslaved child soldiers to defend the Republic (rather than, you know, _its own citizens_ ), just because they would call the clones by the pathetic little names they give themselves and offer them a pat on the head every now and again. In the old canon, they tended to be much more aloof... though this was also depicted as a means to resolve the cognitive dissonance many of them felt. Don't have to feel bad if they're not _really_ people, right?
    Personally, I much prefer the approach of the old canon, as it is much more nuanced, and speaks to a truth of the human condition. Boiling it down to "bullshit mind-control chips" is far too tidy, IMO... even though I concede that it is probably what George had in mind all along.

      the fun part is even without the legends/canon division the chip bs would be eventually legends stuff too since tcw and all its wack by filoni started to retcon previous lore since 2008

    I see you’ve gone from Grand Army of the Republic to the Imperial Guard with tactics like “rush forward towards the enemy and let the artillery take potshots”

    Zinji's mom... She ended up getting murdered and turned in by her own son who after Endor turned warlord and was the main antagonist for the X-Wing novels and that hideous ultimate lowpoint of the EU, The Courtship of Princess Leia.

    hell yeah man.. been antsy for this one. 🙂 glad to hear that you're still enjoying it also - was afraid maybe you'd had an issue with a mod or a save file that had put a stick in the spokes of the campaign. So its great to see a new episode. Been watching and enjoying the Oblivion one as well, but this is the one I really look forward to the most. And with certain irl things going on right now, the diversion and the entertainment is even more welcome. So thanks as well dude.

    I know this video is several months old already but the reason the shields are going down so quickly is due to the ships entering the area within firing range. Essentially it's like the shields are low on power due to it having been transferred to the hyperdrive and not having enough time to power back up. I hope you started deploying your ships further away as this continued.

      He's done it that way for like ⅔ of the campaign up to this point. He's just doing basically proto-Imperial tactics (jump in right in their faces & loose a sluice gate of withering overwhelming firepower - at least, that's the intention lol), and also - by his own admission - it's a function of him not being especially good at the game...
      He's still getting there, he's definitely turned a corner, it's just a mite bit sloppier than it could be.
      But viewing it as a dress rehearsal for Imperial tactics makes sense too lol, in the narrative he established lol

    Apropos of nothing in the video: I recently learned that the Clone Wars CG series has an episode(s?) that is literally "what if we told the story of the Bismarck, but in the Clone Wars?", to the point you can 1 to 1 pick which ship would be which. Grievous gets "Space Bismarck", Plo Koon got the HMS Hood, looked quite interesting. At least in light of my huge bias against the CG series, anyway.

      @@metetural9140 I'm not watching the series, I found it watching Star Wars/Sabaton videos.

    • @metetural9140
      @metetural9140 Před rokem +4

      @@the6ofdiamonds no no its much worse than Legends Felucia, literal Vietnam. A much superior force against a much worse army, bombing the enemy into submission, troops accidentally fighting themselves and hell to round it up even fragging

      @@the6ofdiamonds I definitely would recommend checking it out; It has some pretty weak episodes, but some strong ones, too, and it gets exponentially better by the latter half.

    • @EmeraldLavigne
      @EmeraldLavigne Před rokem +3

      @@the6ofdiamonds the CG series is actually pretty clever & interesting as a show. There's like a 3 episode run in like the 2nd or 3rd season where, back-to-back, they do an homage to Seven Samurai, The Thing, and then Alien/ zombie movies. A lot of love clearly went into making the show, so "Bismarck, but Clone Wars" surprises me not a whit.

    it may be worth giving an escort to your armies for protection against raids as well as embedding a few ground units to navies so you don't have to send an entire army for a unprotected planet.
    or perhaps you can just combine the two so navy and army work together. and neither part just waits around while the other works.

    Glad to see a new video in this series! Definitely very excited that you're starting to use artillery, it's so good in this mod! Hopefully once you secure up some of the regions around Fondor (with Fondor kinda being the last big boss) you'll be able to build up places like Naboo with resource buildings and mines to help prevent shortages.
