I may be Reddit-brained, but part of me is looking at how quickly and thoroughly the ex-friend stepped up and wondering if there’s a reason there besides being a good friend to OP. Like, there’s no evidence to support it, but if we were to hear back after a few years to find out that the two were now a couple - or that he’d asked and been rebuffed - I wouldn’t be surprised at all. To be clear I am not accusing the friend of any kind of inappropriate action, and it’s entirely possible that he’s just a legit stand up guy. Just… I’m pondering

I can't believe that dude is 31. I went back to look at the ages again because he was acting like a complete child.
I thought the same; so childish. His only "effort" was to play teenage mind games by sitting there silently waiting for her to come to him. Like some sort of test to prove her love except she had no idea she was being quizzed since she's exhausted working so much and heavily pregnant and he had zero communication with her regarding their relationship.
I also agree with some other comments that he does sound depressed or some other mental health issue, but that doesn't make any of his actions (or lack of action) acceptable. Ghosting your spouse without ever telling them there's a problem is worryingly immature and deeply concerning. Adding a pregnancy or baby to that makes it even worse.
And genders be damned (there's been a bunch of comments accusing other commenter's of being sexist, that they'd feel different if the genders were swapped in the story), I'd be just as upset if it was a woman who ghosted the husband and child like this. I recently heard a different rslash story where a woman did ghost/abandon her twin boys and daughter to their dad while she disappeared to party in Europe for like 7 years shortly after the daughter was born. I agree with rslash's assessment: these people are f'n losers and cowards.

I think Harry's one of those guys who gets jealous when their wife pays more attention to her infant child (ya know, who relies on her to survive) than his manly feelings. Oh no, she's not giving him head in the mornings. she's not getting him a beer every time he snaps his fingers. He's feeling so abandoned.

Man, I really feel that story... I lived with my ex-girlfriend for 5 months. She just got up in the middle of the night, and left. Slammed the door behind her, and that was the last I heard of her. I called and called, no answer. I got on my bike and went around looking for her for hours, nothing. Next day I came back from work and all her stuff was gone. Just a simple note "You deserve better"

Story 1: you know he knew he was in the wrong because he lied to his friend. If this was the wife who was wrong, he would think the friend would understand, but he knew he was bad and hid it
Depression is not seen in good eyes in society, or mental illness, or a man having a breakdown, that's what looks like with Harry, the things he said, the situation, the things OP said, it looks like Harry stop loving Op, and the realisation of being trapped in a marriage and a paterniry with someone You don't love, yet You can't leave can spiral someone into depression.

First story: OP is pregnant and overworked AND working overtime because Harry isn't working. Instead of going on a vacation he couldve used that money so his wife doesn't have to work as much as instead they can spend the time together

Harry literally stopped loving her 1 month into her pregnancy 🥴. Instead of communicating his feelings/issues, he put his wife through hell. Including being fired from his job and then refusing to work once he realized he enjoyed the peace and freedom. He chose to isolate himself and then got upset because that isolation was lonely. IMAGINE.

This guy has my ex husband written all over him. He idealized the relationship he wanted committed to someone and then realized that it was nothing like it was in his mind so he just wanted to run away from it rather than opening his mouth and communicating, properly mind you because one can communicate but end up presenting the problem horribly and making themselves to constantly be the victim rather than explaining the issue in a way that’s not bias, so he just completely ignores the issue ghosts his wife. Doing so with the what I’m assuming is the out of sight out of mind mentality. Anyone who goes in a relationship like this and commits to someone that much just makes me really angry because that’s a lot of someone else’s life, energy, emotions, and mental stability they’re putting on the line for their own selfish fantasy rather than seeing the bigger picture. They tend to be very manipulative in the beginning to by being everything you need too which makes it rather hard to figure out if it’s just a ruse or if it’s real.

But he doesn't get to complain when his pregnant wife is working her ass off to support both of them and barely has time or energy to spend a lot of time with him. Also, let's not forget that he "fell out of love with her" very early on in the pregnancy, which gives off the feeling that he just stayed because she was the breadwinner and didn't want to get a job again

Me and my boyfriend have been going through it because i haven't been able to find a job. But we communicate how rough it is. We talk about how soul crushing every job rejections is. (He also is looking for a higher paying job) we talk about how hard it is on him being the sole income and how we are barely making ends meet. We also talk about how i feel useless and feel like im not contributing enough due to financially not being able to.
But we talk. We cry it out. We yell and scream out our frustrations. We ask if the other partner is ok. And then we keep going. Talking is the best part about our relationship and it helped us see where the other person is coming from and we love each other enough to comfort and reassure that we know the other partner is doing 100% the best that they can and that is all we want from each other. Try your best.
Harry wasnt trying at all. We wasn't talking. He wasnt understanding. He was a coward. He was a low life. The woman you loved, married, and is carrying your child is doing so much work and is just barely functioning and you decide to dip out and had to be brought to your senses to actually have a conversation. And in that conversation you projected everything onto your wife and didnt take any responsibility for your actions.
see not only was he not talking, he literally admitted he wasnt even trying to find a job. so his whole point of having to do the household chores and being ignored falls apart. youd think if your partner is working long hours trying to keep the house afloat and your stuck doing the chores youd try to get a job even just try. but he didnt he didnt try he sat there and did the chores all day.

First and only story: I get being frustrated about being ignored by ur partner and feel alone but Harry went about this horribly. Instead of COMMUNICATING he decides to ghost his wife and go to an entirely different country for two weeks. A relationship won’t last without communication let alone a marriage. I’m glad OP sees how much of an asshole Harry is. Like OP's situation is understandable, she works to provide while being 6 months and Harry is unemployed and doing just housework. Harry could be understanding but clearly he isnt. Harry is just a dick and a scumbag of a husband. Instead of just outright breaking up with OP, he decided to abandon OP and talk down on OP in his explaination. I’m glad that Harry's ex-friend seen how much of a prick he is and is there for OP. We're only getting half the story here, and even so, she's admitting to emotional abuse of her husband by ignoring and disregarding him. It's not a great way to deal with a marriage. Both are better off apart.

@@noinfo5630 I'm not saying OP is without fault, but she was working extra hours while pregnant which probably didn't leave her with much energy for anything else. It sounds like they had a serious breakdown in communication from both sides.
However, she didn't realize he left because he kept telling her he's still at his friend's place and needed more time. How was she supposed to know when he outright lied to her and she was just respecting his wish for space? The way he went about things immediately after bringing the issue up to her was just not right.

I had a panic attack at work the other day. I have been going through some heavy stuff lately. I told my of my coworker all I wanted to do was go home and talk to my girlfriend. This really makes me appreciate how important it is to be with someone you can talk to about anything.

I feel horrible for the op. I'm glad that her husband's ex friend didn't side with him. I'm glad that his friends were able to look past his bull crap and be a good friend to the person wronged. I'm glad his sister took ops side. There are so many stories of everyone turning on the female in situations like this. If this was a AITA I would say the husband is a 5/5. He put OP and their unborn child in danger. Not just because she was alone. The stress she was under could have caused her to lose their child.

Harry’s was a situation of his own making. His wife was pregnant. She was preparing for the baby. I don’t blame him for feeling a bit lonely, but for the love of all that’s holy her priorities were shifting to the baby. Just like his should’ve. Instead of communicating & moving past it, he sunk so deep into self-pity that he lost his job & became a deadbeat. Then, he straight up abandoned his 6 month pregnant wife, lied to his best friend about it, & was prepared to just vanish. OP should get full custody & just tell the kid the truth. Better to let the kid know that this worm will never prioritize anyone but himself early. (I honestly consider it an insult to worms to lump this filth in with them, but it’s the best comparison involving living things.)
Nah, worms actually contribute to the aeration of the soil so plantlife can breathe. He is a parasite. Like a tick or a flea. Unwanted, resource stealing and bad for the host's health.
This story really fucked with me, my ex did the exact same thing (minus the pregnancy). He distanced himself from me to "test" the relationship and then waited for me to come to him all confused as to why he was ghosting me for a month straight. Dude wanted to break up with tears in his eyes but expected to still live in my apartment and sleep in my bed. He was going through an identity crises and ended up just completely abandoning me without ever opening his mouth to talk. 8 years of my life wasted.
I'm so sorry. This is why I keep telling people that living together long term without marriage is a bad thing (not for any moral or religious reason.) Like you said, eight precious years wasted. If by your first anniversary you both aren't champing at the bit to get married, they're probably not "the one."

It sounded like the guy could've been having some mental health issues (likely depression) and behaved badly through not knowing how to deal with it. Op never once seemed to think she was at least partly or slightly responsible for his feelings towards her, it was all just his fault. Running away is not cool, but people in emotional distress make bad decisions.

Harry would be more understandable if op wasn't pregnant, but ghosting still sucks. Ghosting his pregnant wife is terrible, growing a whole ass human inside you is exhausting. There's a reason we all try not to let pregnant women do anything strenuous and let some behaviors slide. They're exhausted. It does suck when you're putting in more effort than your partner, but you have to communicate the way you feel if you expect anything to change.
People forget how much pregnancy affects someone. It physically pushes your organs out of the way to make room for the baby and causes so many hormones to run through your brain at once. And sometimes it feels people just lack any kind of sympathy about it because it's "what you're supposed to do"
Even then i think you cannot ghost a spouse, pregnant or no. You guys are legally tied to each other. It's often difficult to navigate that alone, when there should be a whole person. Add to that like, if someone else reports the spouse as missing, you're often suspect number 1. Fucked up, and then exponentially more fucked up when u add a pregnancy in there

There is a lot to think about in this story, but my mind keeps coming back to this: Harry lied to his friend about taking OP on the trip.
Harry manipulated and used this guy to help him abandon his wife.
The fact that the friend is an ex friend to Harry now and fully supportive to OP tells me that Harry probably knew that his friend would be completely against leaving in the first place. He lied to get the help he wanted to ghost his wife. Harry used this friend as a shield to lie to his wife about where he really was.
Harry was willing to move away and hide. That means that the friendship probably would be dumped too.
So, I imagine that not only did the friend feel angry at Harry using him as an unwitting accomplice, disgusted by Harry's actions, and guilt for having a hand at what OP is going through, he probably *also* realized that Harry kind of dumped him too.
Yeah, its no wonder that the ex friend wants to be there for OP. They were both lied to and basically told they don't matter to Harry.
So my husband has been experiencing some health issues which is causing frequent anxiety attacks. Last night, we went to the Ghost concert in LA, and he started having an episode. I sat with him, rubbed his back, and assured him he was safe with me. On the way home, he kept thanking me for never making him feel stupid about these episodes and for being there. I told him that’s what a spouse is for!! Otherwise, why get married? He was so beyond patient with me while I tapered off my antidepressant (not a pleasant experience and took MONTHS) and was just an amazing husband who helped me through it.
Long story short: don’t get married unless you genuinely plan on being there for your spouse through the actual good and bad.
I know that you're allowed to stop loving someone for any reason (including no reason), but that doesn't excuse Harry's horrible actions in this story. Dude wasn't even man enough to say he didn't love OP anymore and it took him being browbeated by his sister & now ex-friend to say it.
I feel the most sorry for the kid since they're eventually going to find out that "daddy" just stopped loving mommy when the latter was carrying them. I hope OP will have a therapist at the ready when that particular day comes.
That kid is gonna grow up thinking the friend (because that guy is OP's friend at least) is more of a dad than the biological dad, but good job to the friend for just offering to be there without being asked in the first place
I'll say again exactly what I said on Reddit. As a UK resident I can confirm you don't just "Get fired" from a job. It's actually really hard to fire someone so either this is fake (which I think it is as this harry was flippently going to run away to London and rent there would have put him into serious amount of debt) or Harry was REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BAD at his job.
It’s not that hard in the US, especially in “right to work” states. I was fired when my boss found out I was trans. I never brought it up at work & associated with no one there outside of job duties. He is a conservitard X-tian, LGBTQ+ hating chauvinist who said my job performance dropped off a month prior to firing - despite the fact I was managing 3 departments successfully & without any loss of productivity. So yea it happens.

The husband sounds like a confused depressed introvert. I’m an introvert and when I went though depression, as much as I love my fiancé I just felt better when I was alone and didn’t have to speak to her. I just recently got over it and talked to her about it. She was starting to feel like I was thinking of leaving which I wasn’t.
It is really sad that Rslash and probably the others in Harry's circle can't see that he is going through something. I will fully say that he handled that situation completely wrong but the fact that he went to Ireland with his sister and sat in cheap hotels in silence tells me he really isn't fine mentally. I'm pretty sure the reason he asked his sister to come wasn't to prevent him from cheating but to prevent him from taking himself out.
The name calling and the tone for this video was uncalled for also. What I find horrible is that not only did this guy "fell out of love" with his wife, he said himself he spent most of his time pondering the fact that he fell out of love to the point that he didn't even seem to think about his unborn child at all.
