As we know, most deaths on the titanic were due to hypothermia, and many bodies were recovered, floating on the surface in their life jackets. Just a little correction, Brittanic was jot that much larger than her two sisters, only minor changes but she was around the same size and weight, only weighn slightly more due to the addition of powerful crains meant to more effectively lower the lifeboats.
    The explosions in question that sunk her was a German mine, though it has been confirmed that it was unintentional as the Germans did not know that Britannic would have taken such rout, Hospital ships are protected by the laws of war, making the act of attacking or sinking was an international war crime. Though events such as hitting mines are dismissed as those were meant for warships and transports and not a hospital ship, most weapons that are drop and forget are generally given the benefit of the doubt when it strikes against an unintentional target, at least some times.

  • @KakashiHatake-bd9ji
    @KakashiHatake-bd9ji Před 11 dny

    the britannic was actually built to be much safer than the titanic but in some ways even more so than modern vessels.
    titanic was built so that if 2 of her water tight compartments was flooded, she would stay afloat. Britannic was built so that if (correct me if im wrong) 6 were flooded she would remain afloat when the modern standard is 4.
    she also had better life boat launchers and more life boats.
    by all accounts she was the closest to being unsinkable a ship could get since the Great Eastern.
    however she sunk so easily and quickly not because of the mine she sailed into but because all of her portholes were open, which is against regulations, which easily flooded all her watertight compartments.
    also everyone aboard could easily have survived.
    everyone aboard was well trained medical and ship staff and the ship sunk in the morning in the mediterranean sea, no one was likely to drown.
    the deaths occurred because, against the captains orders, some lifeboats were launched and with the hull dipping down under the weight of the water, the propeller had become exposed on the surface. the lifeboats were drawn in and 30 met a violent end in the propeller blades.
    miss unsinkable herself narrowly escaped her death in one of these boats.
    Britannic’s end was tragic and entirely avoidable had regulations been adhered and the portholes kept closed.

  • @sp1n4l_sn4p
    @sp1n4l_sn4p Před 3 měsíci

    What you failed to mention is that Britannic was NEVER a passenger liner, and that she was repurposed before she was even finished.
    Had her improved safety features been fully installed it is likely she probably wouldn’t have sank at all, however either way Britannic wasn’t designed with war service in mind anyways.
    The thirty casualties came from the mine explosion itself or the panic of the people aboard when they lowered lifeboats as Britannic kept moving, causing them to be shredded when they made contact with the exposed propellers.
    Hope this helps!

    From what I know. All of the 30 victims were actually in lifeboats. Because of the fact that Britannic sank close to land, the captain believed that it was possible to save the ship by sailing to an island. However, it would be a terrible idea, since the now rising propellers were exposed to the surface. Two lifeboats ended up in their path, causing them to be sliced up and killing most of the occupants. Also, the fact that the ship was still moving forward allowed even more water from the increased reaction forces to the ship to enter even faster, making the situation even worse. If the ship never stopped, it most likely would have sped up the sinking.
