    Let's be real here; they only did this film for their 100th Anniversary. It's not the same as actually being creative for something original and fresh.

      Yeah literally. It’s all about it being the anniversary rather than being a stand alone movie

    One of the prime examples in this movie about poor writting is how, when Magnifico turned evil, Queen Amaya barely had a reaction and when he met his fate, she actually even mocked him.
    This was the person who she loved with all her heart, the one man she had decided to spend her life with, the one with whom she had shared many wonderful and intimate moments together; I mean presumably because we barely knew anything about their relationship other than wife and husband, and her reaction to him turning evil before her eyes was..... barely anything.
    Think of Bambi when he lost his mother, think of Ariel when Ursula transformed her father, think of beast letting Belle go, knowing he may never see her again, think of Dumbo seeing his mother in a cage and .... this????? she even mocked him in the end.
    She should have been wrecked with a broken heart but, barely anything.
    this is what made the movie a 3/10 for me. because of the level of incompetence in the writing. (among other factors)

    I remember going to Disney World and taking those animation studio tours... Robin Williams starred in one of the tour videos and became an animated Lost Boy. He started telling the animator to create all kinds of things for him and the animator laughed saying the only limit he had was his imagination. 2D being limiting, the hell?

  • @MaidenOfHusbands
    @MaidenOfHusbands Před 5 měsíci +17

    Literally, what limitations does 2D art have? I think what they wanted to say, was that it took too long, simply because modern Disney is extremely lazy and wants to make movies within one month and then release that movie at the end of that month, just so they can get money faster. Literally, what scene in this whole film couldn’t you do in 2D animation? I’m so confused? Especially since they could’ve done the 3-D backgrounds, like they used to, especially like in Tarzan

    • @theaveragecritic3308
      @theaveragecritic3308  Před 5 měsíci +6

      Yeah simply put animation on a computer is cheaper and easier. And the way Hollywood is it’s much more dangerous to take a risk if a film isn’t successful. It doesn’t necessarily make the animation worse or better that’s up to individual to decide! But I understand the frustration

    Wish looks like it could have been a perfectly fine short pulling on disney history and nostalgia, but a feature length film should have more to it than Generic Disney Vibes

    I agree on the music front. I mean they hired some of the best of the musical world to work on the movie and then suddenly didn't. You had Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson Lopez who wrote the music for the 2 Frozen movies who previously made the musical Avenue Q, In the Disney Renaissance era we had Alan Menken and Howard Ashman I mean Little Shop Of Horrors anyone and then with Moana and Encanto they had Lin Manuel Miranda do all the music and like We don't even need to discuss how successful Hamilton is. If you are wanting the showcase the best of modern musical composers why not use Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. I know they used those two for the live action Aladdin but I would love to see them work on an animated Disney movie. These two wrote the music for La La Land and The Greatest Showman and made the musical Dear Evan Hansen. Like these two know their stuff. Bloody hire them.

    The 'villain' song? it looked as if it they took an X-factor discarded pop piece and pasted it over Magnifico's scene. I mean, the song tones weren't in synch with his mood!. Certain expressions and posing weren't reflected by the song! It was...an upbeat, happy piece, rather than the interior torment of a supposedly psychopath falling into the damnation of dark magic. A text that keeps contradicting itself, about a man-child... Dear lord, this was the worlst villain song so far!

    • @theaveragecritic3308
      @theaveragecritic3308  Před 5 měsíci

      To be fair i do agree the tone of the song didn’t match the character. But I enjoy the song and have enjoyed listening to it. I do think the songs were good but in the context of the film weren’t good

    Utterly too safe and simplistic. The movie poses a great philosophical argument. A kingdom where 4 levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs are automatically filled if you give up on the 5th versus the need for self actualization at the seeming cost of safety is a concept the movie is determined to not broach. The film basically trips over itself to turn Magnifico evil. Sure he's egotistical, but he doesn't start the story evil. The song At All Costs proves he's holding on to people's hopes and dreams (wishes) for altruistic (if flawed) reasons. The whole WISH system was seemingly started because he wanted to protect people from the pain of losing a wish either by tragedy, inability, or impossibility, but his backstory is never elaborated on or explored which is seemingly the whole reason for creating the Kingdom of Rosas in the first place. But we can't have moral ambiguity or people sympathizing with the antagonist in a Disney film, so he's green and evil now and must be sealed away in the shadow realm. That means the kingdom is kind of screwed at the end right? It's stated that Magnifico was the one protecting the land from whatever was threatening it. He was the only one who could do magic and now he's gone. Sure there's Asha and her wand, but the movie also makes it clear that she sucks at it.

      The problem with this movie is that it was made for children ONLY. For Disney's 100th, I expected a movie capable to talk to all audiences, to drow the little kids and the grandfathers and give them 90 minutes of pure joy. Instead, the adults here were just bored chaperons, thinking "Next time, I'll be waiting for it on Disney+!"
      And, most irritating above all, "Once Upon a Studio" proved that with 10 minutes and much love and research, you can appeal to all ages and make us laugh ancd cry and cheer from the deep of our hearts!
      Disney didn't celebrate with the public, with this movie. They patted their own backs while sinking!

      Disagree. Mainly, for two reasons:
      1) this is the movie for the ONE-HUNDRED YEARS of Disney. Getting to render it in a better art style should've been the equivalent of a sacred duty. Heck, even Strange World had done a better job at artwork! In Encanto, you could almost touch the dresses!
      2) Last year saw the yet-unbeatable "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish", where EVERY FRAME could've been used for a poster. it cost less than $100million and also made half a billion! Wish didn't even make, so far, $150million over a budget of almost 200million.
