As a bass player, I love using EZBass as it sometimes adds things that I would never have thought of. Or it adds the highs or lows I wasn’t able to get. Mike, these videos are awesome!
Wow that was a subtle but distinct improvement in that original mix Mike! You have a great ear for this and the software is perfect for re mixing a poor recording like the one you chose! Nice demonstration sir.
I have been considering purchasing both Superior Drummer 3 and EZbass, thank you for helping me make my decision, this was a great review of both! 👍Keep up with the great content. 📈
You didn't get it. The sounds DO NOT come from the VST. That's the whole point. The VST is the only the box that contains the sounds. Big, big difference.
Hey @Mike Luke, thanks for this demo of EZB and SD3 Hansa pack. I like your track, reminds me of something Bob Mould would have done in the early '90s with Sugar.
Hey Mike, this is amazing to see what you can do to this recording! I like EZ Bass. The EZ Guitar would be the next logical step from Toontrack I guess😊👍🏼
Thanks Franco. I agree, the song is amazing as is the band. I’ve put a link to their SoundCloud channel in the description. You‘ll find their own mix of that song there as well!
I’ve been avoiding buying Superior Drummer 3 as I already have so many amazing drum vst’s. And I’ve been avoiding EZ Bass for the same reason. But after watching this video it looks like Too track is going to take another $500 from me aaarrrgggghhhhh
I am using Cakewalk by Bandlab, but I can definitely see the advantages to using the techniques you described here. Thanks so much, oh, and the track is great!
Thanks again Mike for the review/tutorial on the EZbass and using it with SD3. I would think this would be useful in creating my own music, especially if it was used in conjunction with EZkeys. Your videos are well done production-wise, very good quality both video and audio. I would like someday to ask how you create these videos. A noticeable difference in sound from the original recording. Very impressive.
This is amazing. I have some bass libraries based on Kontakt, I also use Modo Bass from time to time but I like this far more than Modo, it sounds way more realistic (because it is lol) and features way more articulations. Now I hope they release a fretless model, a Dingwall model, and a Warwick Thumb xD
Hi, Mike - great stuff and much appreciated! I have both of these tools, too. On my system I kind of hear your example has a slight chorusing effect when you added EZBass. I'm not suggesting it's bad, just wondering if some nudging might reduce it - assuming my hearing is any good. ;-) Thanks and keep 'em coming!
Yeah, you’re right. Usually I’d go deeper into the tweaking, but when I do that, those videos end up being 30 minutes or longer ;) Your ears still work well ;) Cheers and thanks for watching
Some interesting points there, but I have to say I'm not overly impressed with EZBasses sounds. You basically have only two guitars and limited effects. Better to dump the MIDI onto the DAW track and then replace it with a better VST like IK Modo Bass or Spectrasonics Trilian.
EZ bass is great software I think I would like it. Don't you use Reaper anymore Mike. I do have a question about Midi notes. Where can I find the Midi note of the sidestick note of my TD 50 module. I watched that video you made of this topic again but I can't get it working. By the way I love the ambience of the camera lighting, it looks very professional. Respect my dear friend 👊👍😎🍻
Hey, I have been trying to use the audio tracker to input my bass track for an original, and with followhost on, in the same tab, it plays on time with the song. But when I add midi to song track, the timing is haywire. The midi has over double the bars of the sing, despite the same signature and tempo of the DAW(in my case - FL Studio). Could you help me with it?
Sorry, I am afraid I cannot help here as I don't use FL Studio anyway. I know there are some Toontrack fan pages on Facebook, you might raise that question there. Usually a lot of folks being very supportive.
Mike I bought Ezbass yesterday and I do have a question for you. Is it possible to use the standalone Ezbass software to jam along with a song using the presets as a sound like SD3 on my e kit?
I don’t know 100%, but I don’t think so. Because the software is based on MIDI information just like the drum software, but your Bass guitar does not create MIDI notes. It’s meant to be that you play your part and then afterwards convert your playing into MIDI and then use the presets. If you want other sounds, you’d need to use a common amp plugin (EZmix for example).
@@MikeLuke I already thought so, it would be nice if it was possible. I'm already experimenting on mine computer right now. First impression, it's awesome. :-)
Mike Luke I'm working on a new project but it's to hot now, so I will do a remix of an old cover. I never worked before with the audio tracker in SD3 so I do have to figure it out how it works. I already made some progress. I do understand working with Midi files in Reaper, but there are a lot of difference compared to SD3. I hope it will be ready one of these days. 😎
Thanks. I see you were using Studio One. Any particular reason? It seems to have a bug (Presonus says unrequested feature) in that it won't save polyphonic aftertouch used for cymbal chokes, etc... whereas Reaper and a few other DAWs will save the events properly.
Hi David, I still use Reaper, but now additionally Studio One as well. They both have the pros and cons, but you are right. There’s nothing Reaper cannot do. But I start to like Studio One as well, it’s very intuitive and feels like a modern DAW. Haven’t found out about this missing aftertouch feature, to be honest.
@@MikeLuke I second that. I test drove all the major DAWs including Reaper, but Studio One felt the most intuitive. That said, I still had to use Reaper for retiming a track as S1 just couldn't do it.
As a bass player, I love using EZBass as it sometimes adds things that I would never have thought of. Or it adds the highs or lows I wasn’t able to get. Mike, these videos are awesome!
You can go back and touch up all your old home recordings to make them polished. Awesome.
It blows me away that this can be done now...crazy!! Nice work on the mix!! 👍👍👍
Wow that was a subtle but distinct improvement in that original mix Mike! You have a great ear for this and the software is perfect for re mixing a poor recording like the one you chose! Nice demonstration sir.
Thanks for stopping by, Mike. I had a lot of fun working on that mix, a great song.
I have been considering purchasing both Superior Drummer 3 and EZbass, thank you for helping me make my decision, this was a great review of both! 👍Keep up with the great content. 📈
SD3 is pricey especially when you start getting in the expansions and is a burden on your hard drive. But it’s worth it. It’s awesome.
The mix sounds really awesome Mike. Respect my dear friend 👊👍😎🍺
Thanks Rob! Always appreciate your valuable opinion as I know you listen critically.
Well recorded instruments!! Quite possibly the best I've heard for VST!
You didn't get it. The sounds DO NOT come from the VST. That's the whole point. The VST is the only the box that contains the sounds. Big, big difference.
Great example Mike how these tools can enhance a track - thanks for sharing
Hey @Mike Luke, thanks for this demo of EZB and SD3 Hansa pack. I like your track, reminds me of something Bob Mould would have done in the early '90s with Sugar.
Yes, the track is great. It’s not my song though, I just mixed it. ;)
Hey Mike, this is amazing to see what you can do to this recording! I like EZ Bass. The EZ Guitar would be the next logical step from Toontrack I guess😊👍🏼
UJAM guitars are already good if you just want preset riffs.
Free concert at the end.... great video as usual... thanks a million
I thought the song is so great, I had to play it start to finish. ;) Thanks for watching
Another great video Mike!
absolutely loved the song!

SamuelAging me too,DAMN....
Great sounding mix Mike.
Awesome video Mike!! Your studio looks great!! Are you all finished with it now? Way to go brother!
These videos are great and informative, always!!
Yes, my studio is done! Will make a video soon - right now I have no time because I am mixing some songs for a client.
I am using Cakewalk by Bandlab, but I can definitely see the advantages to using the techniques you described here. Thanks so much, oh, and the track is great!
Can't wait to see Mark King's midi slap Library showing up ! Or Victor Wooten, and Alain Caron drives, will be amazing for sure.
Yes, I am pretty sure Toontrack will release some cool expansions for this in the future.

Hi Sal, maybe we can jump on a Skype call one day and have a chat. Would be great after all those years. ;)
Mike Luke
Yea Mike, that would be wonderful.
I can work a time/day around your schedule. Let me know what works for you.

I disagree, I think Modo is superior, sound-wise.
Found the Midi note and got it working :-)
Hey Rob, that’s great. You found the solution quicker than I read your comment ;-) Hope you are doing well, my friend! 😎🙏

@BILL DAN COURTNEY I doubt it if EZkeys is anything to go by, the program is great, but the sounds are godawful.
Hi Mike, Love this video. I have both SD3 and EZBass. Do you have any videos on mixing that vocal in this particular recording?
wowwww thanks man
Great mix Mike! Did you do any phase work on those bass waveforms? Did the waveforms need phase correction like between Di and amp signal ?
Hey, thanks for watching. Yes, I do check the phase on Bass guitars. With EZBass, however, the two waveforms from DI and amp are usually in phase.

Can I use pearl mimic module With ez drummer three or is there a different modules that you recommend That works best with ez
Hi Markos, you can use the Pearl Mimic, but also every other module. It always depends on your budget and your needs.
Thank you for your answer I appreciate very much Mike.
Mike Luke Mike sorry to bother you if a budget is not an issue which is the best module for superior drummer I should’ve as you in that perspective.
Hello! Can i combine the Trilian Spectrasonics bass sound too with EZ-bass?
of course yes
You dump the MIDI to the DAW so you can add any VST instrument.

Hi Patrick. Nein, CD Reviews habe ich zurzeit nicht geplant, aber man weiß ja nie. Wieso? Hast Du eine neue CD? ;)
Bro u lokin like a the german actor Ralf Richter, thats to funny
Don’t know if that’s a compliment though. ;)
Just need ezguitar and ezvox and you don’t need anyone. Not even talent!
