- GETTING RID OF CLUTTER! Declutter Your Whole House in 2024 Challenge
There is nothing more refreshing than a good purge!! Today let's continue our monthly declutter your whole house in 2024 challenge with the entryway! Trust me, you do NOT want to overlook this space! It's the first space guests see when they come over, and it is a space YOU see everyday (multiple times) as you walk through the house! Having this space decluttered is motivating and inspiring. Today I'll take you along side me as I declutter what may "appear" to be a clutter free entryway, and I'll share my best tips for making tough decisions and continuing progress! - Jak na to + styl
Great video! Put the dog leash in the drawer and get rid of the basket!
Exactly what I thought! 😊
Candace, I love when you say “I used to say do this” it is so refreshing to see adjustments made as we progress through life…which is what I do as I improve my systems as well. Thanks for keeping it real!
There are several things I used to do all the time that I don't anymore, or don't recommend anymore!! I used to say don't have a keep/think about it box. Now I say, DO IT!!
I set up my ‘mud room’ in the garage next to the entrance to the house, since this is where we enter and exit the most. I placed a 3 shelf shoe rack on a 3 x 5 outdoor rug, with hooks on the wall next to it for coats. This has worked for my family.
Hi. just a (hopefully, thought provoking for you) question. "why do you have a blanket in a basket to hide the clutter when the only thing in the basket is a dog lead?" could your dog lead live in the drawer with the wipes? then you could declutter the blanket and the basket? this is just a suggestion, sent with kindness. I am a minimalist, ever striving to be more minimalist, lol. Just for context, I am 48, married with 9 kids, 6 of which, still live at home. thank you for your inspiring videos. Sarah.x
I was thinking the same thing, put the leash with the wipes and use the basket and blanket elsewhere.❤
Decluttering my craft room🤦♀️ 1 bag & 1 box donations & 1 bag of books going to used bookstore. Tackling coat closet tomorrow. ❤ your inspiration
Whooo! Way to go!! That is a HUGE accomplishment! Keep me updated on your progress!
my toxic trait is piling stuff on the stairs delusionally thinking anyone else will go put them away...
This was SO great! Needing to go through our shoes today among many other areas!😂 We just got back from vacation and before we left I was realizing how HARD is was to get certain things out of certain areas quickly in our home because there was simply TOO much stuff in that area! Thanks for the motivation, Candace!🥰
I just gave 3 large bags of clothes, 2 large boxes of miscellaneous household items, a small table and some tools donation today. I have a running weekly donation pick up even if I only have a small bag. I feel so good with everything that goes out.
YES!!! Good for you!!! That is a HUGE accomplishment and you are right to feel proud!! Keep me updated on your progress!! I'm here cheering for you!
No clutter or mess in my entryway has always been my rule. I practiced this at home and taught my kids to respect the zone. I also insisted on this in my classroom at school as well. People always think I'm super organized and clean when that may not always be true if they had traveled further into the room or house.
Using a LIDDED wicker basket might be an option for keeping the shoes in the kitchen, so you don’t have to see the shoes where you cook and eat. HomeGoods has a good selection. ❤
I do have a box in the entryway with stuff that I listed online and a box with stuff that I want to use as gifts. This year I'm starting to give them as gifts, I am so sick of it just sitting there in this box.
Two days ago I was pulling out two big boxes of wool skeins and I put them all on the floor and I was shocked.. way too many wool skeins. So I decided to give them to a woman who can actually knit and she's gonna knit a big blanket for us so we can get use out of it.
I do own too many different ceramic bowls and I decided to bake little treats for friends and family on their birthdays and put them in the bowl and gift it to them. Win-Win. 😂
ooh love the tip that "if I wouldn't look here first for this item, then this item is out of place." And yes to the reality check that if a space is hard to keep clutter-free, then you have too much stuff. And I do not have a mudroom either (I miss that from my other house), so I added a tall narrow bookshelf in the garage (by the entrance door to the house) where we put our shoes and each person has their own cubby space that they maintain/keep tidy. Game changer - it's easy for everyone to know where their shoes are and where they're supposed to go.
I love that you are using the space that you have!! I hope to have a mudroom one day, but maybe I will have a shoe basket in my dining room forever lol you never know!!
Maybe a slim shoe rack would work better in the closet. I bet you could drill and make a custom one.
I have been trying to declutter my pantry but it is also the dumping ground for a lot of things. We have very few closets, so the pantry has become a catch-all and then of course in busy seasons menu planning doesn't happen so we have a lot of unused food too. It's a problem 😬
A husband that declutters....what??? I can only dream.
It happens about once every 6 months and I am HERE FOR IT!!!
I keep doing my stuff and he is slowly starting to do some, not all of his.
I don’t use the B&B scented wall units anymore too. Great video again!
Struggling to let go of shoes that aren’t my most comfortable but are nice, good quality , fairly expensive shoes.
I just brought one huge bag and three boxes to the thrift store. Already have another box started. Why don’t you set up a place for shoes in the garage before you enter through the kitchen?
I have thought about the shoes in the garage set up, but we gets lots of spiders out there!! And I am SO excited about your declutter!!! Feels SO GOOD, doesn't it?!
Hi Candace, my home isn't bad however, I am going through my entire home and decluttering. As I have aged, I do not want all the things. Btw, may I ask what lipstick you are wearing? The color is lovely.
Hi Candace, I just had a thought - could you put one of those over door shoe holders on the back of the garage door? That way the shoes don’t come in the house at all. Hello from Wiltshire in England!
Super excited to see this!!!
Can't wait!
Do you diffuse anything now? What do you use if so that is more natural ? I also use the bath and body diffuser and I feel it actually has an odd smell most of the time
I’ve never understood the shoe thing, in fact I only have one pair of shoes.
Just curious, why do people in the US etc call trainers/sneakers & also sandals shoes? They’re not actually shoes.
I don’t like having a basket on the stairs, as I’d be scared of tripping over it & falling on the stairs.
Careful getting rid of those Pokémon cards because some of them are worth a lot of money and or will be someday . 😊 I only know this cause my son has a huge collection.
You know those V Max Pokémon cards are forth a fortune right? 😂
Don’t just chuck them cause honestly Pokemon cards are so valuable.
We moved to a rental, know we will only be here a year maybe a little longer, so I'm struggling with what to store for the future. For example, all my fireplace accessories. Will we end up in a home with a wood burning fireplace again? No way to know! Lots of items like this, don't need now and feels like clutter but a real possibility we might need again soon.
If you have the space, I'd say hang on to it...for now!! As soon as you move into your more permanent home, make some decisions!! Enjoy the rental for now! Moving can be so fun AND overwhelming!
RIF* RID* oops. haha. love your vids though. we all make typeozzzz
Oh geez haha thanks for pointing that out!
What lipstick is that!? It's gorgeous!
Oh thank you!! It's a new one! I'll check the color...
Great video!! I’ve been watching Dana K White’s videos for years. My family & myself use the “where would I look first for this” technique for everything. It was “cute” to hear my teenage son ask his friend on the phone “where would you look first for your book? Then go put it there”. Hoping his someday wife will be happy he thinks of this stuff. LOL
Okay that's ADORABLE!!! Hopefully some of these tips rub off on my kids!! My 5 year old was talking about decluttering the other day and it literally make me squeal!
The “where would I look first” technique is the bomb! 🎉 Truly amazing! Love your videos so much!❤❤❤❤❤
