Not to shit on him, but he's one of the reasons why Blizzard will never change, he has been beaten down multiple times, and still has faith blind faith on the company and will consume everything and anything they put out. Raxx is great and he helped bring out maxroll which is an insanely solid resource for D2R, D3, etc. I unfortunately have been able to detect he's got that same "gotta keep up this Blizzard/brand friendly sheen" just like Rhykker. So you know you're getting censored or otherwise babyfied points of view on epic failures and injustices etc sometimes. Outside of that though he's the one streamer I gave my prime sub to and I do wish him the best of luck and a Blizzard funded payday he's followed all the rules and worked hard for it at least. For those curious, as a F2P Player, the reason I play any Mobile/P2W games with no intention of every paying is:
    1. Some mechanic it has has caught my interest. Whether it be whatever the Main Engagement is or some nostalgia aspect of it. Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel serves as an example of this, I've long since gotten past the initial freebie stage, but I like dueling, so I'll play and continue to build decks.
    2. Time killing. If I've got a 15 or 30 min break of down time, trying to start up a bigger game of something isn't really feasible as it might go over. As a F2P player, at worst, I'll have lost some stamina, that will have refilled the next time I open the game.
I am not a Diable Immortal player nor will ever be, but here is some reasoning why at least one F2P player will waste their time on a P2W game.

I still appreciate Asmons open, maybe a bit bitter and sarcastic, but nonetheless absolute true approach to this rising problem.
Raxx is a super nice guy, but heartbroken about what Blizzard did here. Sure, predatory mobile games are around like forever, but not used with a much loved franchise like Diablo.
I have the feeling many Diablo fans thought this is some kind of Diablo 3.5 until 4 is released. Now, its time to wake up and see what this mess really is and have very, very low expectations about Diablo 4.
Some bitterness from me, nothing will change, the majority of plankton will keep on playing without knowing or being aware of the problem because "I´ve only spent 50 dollars, its not pay to win, its 800% value!" Theres nothing on this world that will change this, so dont waste any time. As soon as this is released in China, the numbers will go through the roof even further and Bobby is smiling.

The grinding means something there, and if you play a lot, you also get very good gear, on top of high paragons, then you can play any class, or build you wish with It.

It feels cruelly ingenious to have pay to win mechanics in a game with pvp. Him saying he did 5% to a whale with multishot and the whale did 90% with an auto attack makes me think that that whale felt amazing dominating another opponent like that. And the worrisome thing is being the f2p player being dominated in pvp, and you know you could be so much stronger and possibly beat the guy that dominated you if you spent money.
He's right that f2p players aren't the target audience, whales are. And that pvp example is exactly the right way to reward whales and turn minnows into whales.

    • @destroyerinazuma96

Being able to wreck whales was part of what kept me hooked to Battlefield play4free (until I finally dropped it cause it was toxic). Whales' extra perks were annoying but not overwhelming, and even cheater couldn't do much to someone who knew the maps and drew tanks/helis. I don't think devs did it on purpose, but it was more than possible (just frustrating) to win against whales, sometimes even when your team had one and the opposite team had four.

    • @markomancikas
      @markomancikas Před 2 lety +3

The worst thing is, that there are a lot of players who go to pvp and see these whales smashing everyone and they think to themselves "hmmm, I would like to be that powerful, let me buy this 50 dollar orb chest, maybe I will become as strong as him" and then don't realise that "small spenders" can never win or even compare to these whales. So he just ends up spending like 50-100 dollars a month to become more powerful just to never realise that this small amount of money gets him nowhere. And I bet, there's 1000 times more of these guys than there are of actual whales. And these guys are the ones bringing most of the cash in, just because there is so many of them. And the best part is, the game isn't even out yet in China and even a better part is, there is a big possibility, it will never come out in China due to SUDDEN regulations by Chinese government 😅

Diablo 3 sold off diablo 2 being such a great game, people wanted the prefix suffix style way expanded and the whole diablo 2 gameplay untouched essentially and expanded on, im pretty sure diablo 2's item system is still more complex and better than diablo 3's. Most diablo 3 players i know, werent that good or didnt really play diablo 2 that much. Most people who quit d2 and were told about d3 by friends and installed it and checked it out. Alot of people also saw it wasnt what diablo 2 was, saw the whole early auction house bullshit and quit right away. People also claim d3 has more customization. Lol, yeah Ok. Does everyone not play each season just based off the release of that certain set? Can i equip a sword to wizard and swing that sword to kill act boss? I can do that with sorc, i can also equip a giant a$$ 2 hand sword with amazon and play passive ability only. I can even equip 3 piece of necro set items on pally and play fireball off him if i want to. Can i do any of that with d3? Nope i have to play with whatever dev has decided to give me for the skills that they think is the best for that char. And you want to tell me that d3 has more customization? Im pretty sure the only reason people say that is because you can transmog in d3, but d3 is not a more customizable game than d2 no wayy, you can jus trick out ur character so much more in d2. And jus tailor it to whatever. I used to make bowzons built to face and dual bowzons only. But i could solo clear Hell diablo/baal at the same time if wanted to.

I mean the itemization is definitely terrible in D3 compared to D2 but there are tons of different viable builds in D3 just like D2 and there are bad builds just like D2 that you can try out. There are sometimes different element options in D3 that are still meta. The amount of builds is not better. Legacy of Dreams? Probably doesn't mean anything to most D2 fans. Let's just say Titan Quest and Grim Dawn easily have way better build diversity than D2 and D3 combined but people have the rose-tinted nostalgia factor for D2 and have a hateful attitude towards D3 for whatever reasons.

D2 itself came out long before this aswell. people arent gunna throw away there whole economy and all the time they put into it just because theres a new game out. And dude i was around in .08.. before that.. I was long long gone when legacy of dreams came into diablo 2. Long gone. The game went to shit not to long after 2011. Rich assholes started coming out of the woodwork, buying up everyones rares, then next thing u know theres a dupe spree and dupes everywhere of once 1 of a kind rare items. Once i saw that i quit for good, sold my zon off, got 350 alone for my crafted ring off that snufflefugus dude. Alot of my characters items are still out there to this day.. stuff i traded for and took years finding.

He was in the unique position of playing the alpha compared to most that jumped right into the game during the beta phase. So while most people were analyzing the game as a mobile, "Pay-to-Win" type game... he got caught up thinking that the game actually might be like the alpha. But then they pulled a bait-and-switch on him.
    - I can see how someone could become invested into something they really enjoy as a game in general and money (P2W) not even coming to mind, especially while they were simultaneously playing the alpha and all things showed contrary to it going to be pay-to-win. But I think he may have just been a little slow to realize that the game had become P2W when the power level between free-to-play characters vs. pay-to-win characters was so dramatically different.
    - Lastly, he 1. May have never played a mobile game before nor have heard any industry news around it. (Or news around mobile games in general. He seems to be a PC gamer. And things really become blurry when a mobile game is then also enabled for PC.) Many people are into playing games in general but don't follow the news about games. I'm sure he expected some sort of another normal, computer-like Diablo experience. But how it was marketed as a mobile game while also being free-to-play he didn't quite calculate.
And 2. When he made this statement, I knew he may end up having his blinders on:
"I'm usually very pro Blizzard. Um... I literally stream their games all the time. I've been playing their games since I was like, 12 years old. Um... they have been my favorite gaming company even when they really let me down. I still try to stick by Blizzard."
*I do feel bad for the guy and how excited he seemed about the game. Especially how much time and effort he seems to have put into it.*

I see a lot of "Why would you play the game as f2p?" "Why would you do that to yourself?" "How you didn't see this coming?".. idk if those question were directed to Raxx or just to general f2p public. Maybe im getting it wrong but it sounds like "you're a dumb for playing this game".. The thing is, that's what Raxx does, he blast a game not just to have fun (in this case he didn't have too much fun) but also to gain knowledge of the game to then share it with people that doesn't know how it works.
And in the case of immortal i think its even more important that he showed what the game is really about so that people that don't have the time to understand all the mechanics and how microtransactions works in this game can decide if they'll play it or not, having all the facts. So i think is really important that someone like Raxx disects the game and expose all the immoral gambling system so people like me can decide without making the mistake of spending any money on the game. The rest is, Raxx keeps playing, sending feedback to improve the game cause like a lot of us, we love diablo franchise and we hate seeing it become a cash grab game.

I think he's looking at it more like this:
A high school kid from bumf*** nowhere is trying to take on the kids from the richest towns in the United States in a track meet.
These kids have had track training since they were able to walk from trainers that are ex-olympians.
They've got all the best equipment, the best tracks, and overall the best chance of winning any track event.
The highschool kid from the middle of nowhere started out by winning his first footrace around the outskirts of town, allowing him to dream a bit further.
He's running up and down the local mountain two, maybe three times a day for 5-7 days a week.
He hasn't got any coaches to explain to him what he's doing wrong, but he has got parents that love and support him.
He knows he's good, but is he that good?
So he starts competing with some kids from out of town. Some of them come from wealthier families who can afford these nice things, like actual running shoes and are able to get them to practice on an okay track. And he starts beating these kids.
So he dares to dream a bit bigger.
Now he's competing in an area competition, where kids from even wealthier families who can afford to get their kids some actual training are now competing against him. He still wins. Not by a lot, but by enough to dream even larger.
So now, he's heard of this Immortals race, where the best of the best, the richest of the richest, the most athletically gifted that money can afford to sustain all come to compete in the biggest event in about a decade.
This kid has never seen such ridiculousness. These other kids are wearing speed-skin suits and running shoes designed to fit their form perfectly. Some even brought along their 3-time golden Olympic medal trainers simply so they could flex on the rest of the crowd.
But none of this bothers the kid from bumf*** nowhere. He knows how good he is. He knows that he has natural, raw talent and that no matter who he has been put up against, he can still win.
Until before the first race, for the low price of $5,000 every other racer begins to shoot blood into their veins, allowing for an unnatural ability to continue running past the physical breaking points of a normal human being.
I think it's a bit more like that, but I liked your analogy, too. It made me chuckle at the very least.

I can relate to this Raxxanterax bro. Some p2w games (SOME, some Korean MMO) allow you to win against whales if you play really smart, invent new tricky strategies, etc. And it's actually very good feeling to win against whales while being a F2P. But, apparently, Diablo Immortal is not such a game, like at all ;D
    So it's just very sad.
