I think the only thing I don't really agree with is how he said that D4 has a lot of depth like POE for new players. The amount of skills and support gems in POE right out of the gate is insane, and then to be put into the passive tree right away is so overwhelming. D4 still caters to people just jumping in, they'll never have an optimized build, but you just pick 1 of 4-5 starting abilities and keep going. I respeced my sorc in D4 and put all cold skills on, and it was bad, but I was still easily able to kill things and move on. POE taking down brutus without a few good skills can be super difficult and within an hour of POE you could be running hundreds of different skill combinations that you also have to match up with a passive tree.
I had to look up Brutus to make sure that was the name of the boss I was thinking of, and in the changes it has "We have rebalanced various monsters found throughout Act One to make them more dangerous.". It just shows that POE is meant to be difficult and complex out of the gate, while D4 just wants people to enjoy the game casually, but will hopefully build into something that you can spend a lot of time maxing out

So glad he mentioned how terrible level scaling is. More RPG developers need to realize that level scaling eliminates non item based progression and the negatives far outweigh the positives. It's the worst "feature" ever introduced to RPGs. I blame Oblivion. It was made painfully obvious to me when I watched a lvl 18 Barb struggling against an elite mob in the overworld(it was gonna take him 20+ seconds to kill it); I, as a lvl 7 Barb ran up to the mob while he was fighting it and killed it in like 2 upheavals. We both kinda stopped and looked at each other after, and I'm sure we were thinking the same thing. Why does a lvl 7 Barb do 3x more dps than a lvl 18 Barb? What's the point of even trying to lvl my lvl 7 Barb if all it's gonna do is make me do less damage and die quicker? Progression is 90% of the fun of ARPGs, and level scaling 100% eliminates lvl based progression. Literally the only way to get stronger is to stay the same lvl and get better gear.

its also an open world so having enemies scale with you is a good thing in many ways for this game when the end game is the literal world itself not rifts not some whatever. @@Luminousreign I'm not familiar with how it worked in D3. Did it work well there? As long as you get more powerful on lvl up, and there is some way to demonstrate that power increase relative to lower level players, then it will be good thing. In D3 end game, did level increases make you stronger or weaker relative to other players? Would a lvl 95 Sorc clear an end game dungeon faster than a lvl 90 Sorc? If so, I'm a fan of that. End game is indeed 90% of the game beyond some point, so as long as leveling makes you stronger in end game, the game will still be fun(though it will still suck that there exists 0 sense of progression prior to end game). My fear with D4 is that even at end game, the fastest clears of the hardest dungeons will be done by non max level characters. Hopefully not, but if - for example - the end boss that a lvl 60 player fights has 300% more HP than the boss a lvl 50 player fights, what if there are no combinations of paragon points that can 3x your dps from 50 to 60?

    • @poochymama2878

@@yulfine1688 Don't get me wrong, there are definitely advantages to having everything lvl scaled(it's not just the open world in D4, it's everything). The biggest advantages are that 1) All content is always relevant no matter what lvl you are 2) Anyone can play together and feel like they are contributing, regardless of lvl difference. Those are real advantages, but imo the disadvantages still outweigh the advantages. You get +10 for making all zones always relevant, +10 for making the game more co-op friendly, but then you get -50 for completely eliminating lvl progression and not only making leveling pointless, but harmful.
For me personally, one of the best feelings in an RPG(and especially one like Diablo where power based progression is like 90% of the fun) is the feeling of coming across some mobs/dungeons that are way too hard for my characters current level, then going to another zone and grinding up my level, then coming back and actually clearing the dungeon, then coming back 20 levels later and 1 shotting everything in the dungeon. The feeling of all that hard work paying off, and seeing just how much stronger I've become is such a good feeling and why I love RPGs. In an action game, sure, I want a consistent challenge, always. In an RPG though, I want to feel overpowered against things that used to feel overpowered against me when I was weaker.
Some of that is personal opinion(and some disagree), but it does make me happy to see that more and more people are starting to realize the cons outweigh the pros. I've been saying this since Oblivion came out. At least in Oblivion/Skyrim, you can just download mods that eliminate the scaling(after which they become much better games).

I don't even want to defend Blizzard, but a comment this stupid deserves a response.. D4 devs have gone over the entire monetization model repeatedly and released full details of their battle pass.. to sum it up, it's essentially the same as CoD.. Store will have skins available for premium currency.. battle pass will have both free and paid tiers.. paid tiers will only contain cosmetics and premium currency (exactly like cod).. anything you'd consider a "boost" will be tied to free tiers of the battle pass (like new weapons etc in cod).. They also detailed that you cannot unlock boosts by buying battlepass tier skips.. you still have to unlock the boosts naturally (via the quests tied to them)..
Nothing about the Immortal monetization scheme was outlined pre-release outside of the CM saying "you can't buy gear" in a tweet, which wasn't "technically" a lie. But besides that, if you were expecting "fair" monetization in a mobile game, you were delusional to begin with. Hearthstone already existed and that game is anything but "F2P friendly."

so what you're telling me is that none of this, not even screenshots to drive sales and hype about cosmetics, is available to show less than a month away from release? While I'll agree maybe my comment was a bit vitriolic and I didn't get all of the facts reported absolutely correctly, I definitely saw multiple posts by staff on bnet regarding the monetization system not being "buy gear with rm." So yes while they did not explicitly list the details of their monetization of the game they heavily implied them and did the exact opposite on release. It's not even my point that they explicitly said this either it's about the implication and their history. Let's not forget that literally all of the monetization was hidden till the actual release of the game even throughout the "open" beta.
I don't give a fuck about battle passes as long as I'm not forced to buy them, I don't really care. What I care about is the quality of the game that I want to buy and my desire to not see systems in the game that will not want me to purchase it on release. If Blizz states that their system won't be buying any "power" should I take it at face value given their track record of the past lets see, 2 years? Have they showed any screenshots? marketing regarding it? I'm of the opinion that I'd rather wait and see what their actual choice is rather than just assume they'll act in good faith this time. Which I'm sure I've said multiple times in my prev comment as I do when I comment about d4 making it more clear to me you didn't read it. (edit: i did not clarify this in my comment this time I apologize this last sentence was uncalled for)
You're right I'm delusional to think that a mobile game is predatory that it literally costs over 10k to max your account. (? do you really believe this? obv mobile games are cash cows but really do you think this is an acceptable business practice?) But I'm not delusional to think that blizzard would do the exact same thing again to make money. Reforged, dimmortal, ow new monetization. All these games in the past 2 years have been cash grabs, ow not so much but the store is disgustingly predatory when it costs more for a digital item than the real thing there's an issue. My point being Blizz doesn't exactly have the track record of being honest and looking out for us. After all their "lying" (sorry misrepresenting their games to the point of being disingenuous, not lying exactly ig) do you really think its a good idea to take them at their word and not wait for the actual details of their monetization scheme? I get you don't want to defend blizzard and think im making up lies (which wouldn't be fair we are of the same opinion) but everything I've said is grounded in facts and their past history as a company and mind you THE VERY VERY VERY RECENT past. This isn't the stupidest comment you've ever heard you just don't want to recognize that this company has lied to us for years about whats in their games. I didn't clarify before in this comment so you couldn't of known what my acutal opinion was to wait and see what happens till after the game comes out and my comment here just states that the stars are aligning. which would make more sense in the context of my other comments but yes we cannot know until it comes out but with their current track record nothing I said previously is off the table, they've lied, literally hidden, and fucked us so many times in the past couple of years I wouldn't trust anything they say till I see images and video of it from 3rd party sources.

I play Diablo 2 for more than 8 years honestly I can say is the best game I ever play in my life now am 30 years old.Diablo 2 is very complex game and the PVP system is the best I ever seen in any game. Barb in D2 is strongest class in duel if you know how to play and have items in the stash to swap vs different classes my favourite build is second weapon Windowmaker bow to unlock the guided arrow plus Enigma to have teleport no one can kill you if you know how to play. Most expensive class in the game Barb for duel you need all these good stuff to swap all the time Grief,Doom,BTD,Last Wish ,Beast and Monarch Shield for max block.

Also a note on Q&A, when you have a trial period like this were the classes vary in power level you get a good feel for which direction the target audience is pulling. Maybe they were on the fence about which direction to lean, then they know better now.

So the audience will of course use the most powerful class, but do they prefer it to be nerfed or other classes buffed? It's probably intentionally unbalanced in *some* aspects. I hope. God I really hope it's intentional and will be fixed.

Sorry guys, but that is ridiculous. These pro gamers are bringing up points of state of game by overplaying 3h content with 20hrs gameplay, maxing out all items and affixes and complaining about balance. In 20hrs it would be finished Story 2x times. There would not be such overpowered items in lvl25.

I think that was the point that we get every skil combination at 25. People dont want to level to 50+ for 1 skill unlock. Moreover I think if we add to the skills legendaries, paragon system, runes (in the future, maybe even legendary runes) and set items we will have more than enough to play around.

I think overpower is going to be really important for some builds. Like bloodmancer and earth-druid. These can proc overpowered hits quite consistently and also fortify themselves. I think its a pretty interesting mechanic because you get to stack toughness to increase your damage. Certainly a nice addition as regular critchance still exists. Its basically one more toy to play with and i dont see how thats a bad thing (unless its broken ofc).

This man understands a lot of things. Development process and beta builds he kinda nailed quickly. It is very common that the build you play is usually 6 months to a year old usually with very minor changes. As some people mentioned they feel veteran mode was nerfed and it could've been on that difficulty however the build is the same build for the most part that was given back in December and technically back during the last closed beta test for the most part.
I'd say the build we have had access to is about 3-5 months old which 3 months generally is just bug fixing balancing etc as you get closer to 6 months and above major changes can start to happen on some areas and some systems and over a year you can rework a ton of things.
I also find it funny people go wooooh at a 6/10 from him hes always been very harsh but hes also a very hardcore player and enjoys the crazy spreadsheet depth that Poe offers something that a very large numbers of players do not enjoy and it's very obvious when Poe struggles to have new players or players come back.
Poe 2 I am hopeful for because I could never get past I think act 2 in Poe I hated the systems I hated having to run through the story just to redo a character, I hated the lack of animation cancel melee was still clunky and even with fixes and major updates I struggled to enjoy any of the classes and mechanics. The trade system is so bad people need to stop praising it not only is it heavily run by bots and third party sites that you spend real money similar to D2R now but the amount of currencies is messy to deal with skill board is terrible it's really bad...you are locked into a few set builds per character and many overlap to the point where its the same thing but a bit different and its praised as the greatest thing since fire was invented.. it's really not and hopefully its been a couple years that has been worked on where more of the board is noteworthy to run through and has opened up more options for builds.
Map overlay they really need to bring that back because a map overlay just allows you to continue flowing and moving which is very important if you ask me in any open or semi open world game or most games in general honestly.
The UI is definitely not that bad at least to me some of the elements the text and so on definitely need to be worked on but overall its not that bad but I didn't delve into the actual UI itself.
Cost of the game Diablo 2 launched at 50-60$ primarily 60$ from what I have found and lord of destruction launched at 35-40$ or something similar to that. So cost wise the pricing finally going up as many people have overly stated for years now is not surprising and the fact games have mainly stayed between 40-60$ and many indie games being like 20-30$ is impressive and thats mainly because of things like microtransactions subscriptions services and so on. Things that can generate money and cost very little to actually maintain and upkeep overall without needing to touch the cost of a game overall.
People do not seem to realize that lets say the game cost was 300 million dollars alright pretty expensive game to produce and you sold 8 million copies at 60$ in 1 month in that one month alone you would make 480 million dollars in one month...except that's not how that works exactly. Actually just looking at what we are given in 2014 lets say for diablo 3. Their revenue the previous quarter was 658 million dollars their actual net income was only 45 million dollars half of the previous years income during that same quarter.
Blizzard sold 20 million copies worldwide for diablo 3 including reaper of souls on pc xbox and ps.
Diablo 3 sold at 60$ a copy and 40$ a copy for the basic variant at that time. So 100$ total for the game. That's over 2 billion dollars in revenue yet as you saw 658 million dollars in revenue translated to 45 million in actual profit...assuming the exact same thing happened as it did for 658 million then their profit would have been 3.04x 45 million and would have been total 136.778.115 million dollars...except that was roughly 2 years to reach that point. Which tells me diablo 3 did very poorly at roughly 17 million a quarter assuming every quarter was the exact same which is not true. Compare that to 658 million in one quarter during that time only about a 38th of the actual revenue for that quarter ehhh sort of numbers are not perfect assuming everything was as told which was doubtfully the case. I can imagine how much of a letdown that was to shareholders investors and so on and so forth.
I couldn't find anything about the actual cost of the game but in 2021 they're yearly expenses were 5.858 billion dollars.
I lost power for some reason and a ton of writing so that sucks...
ok quick summary dungeons they need work no diablo 2 dungeons are special and he even mentions poe dungeons are similar but instead they have maps which are like how dungeons will be for diablo 4 only they need some work now poe took a while to get to where they're at to be a good standard to look at. Simply put dungeons need work and the mechanics need some work definitely to be prepped for end game content.
World bosses are pretty cool however the one we had in beta was scaled down and dumbed down for the beta they're end game content so most likely they're level 100 or maybe they scale starting at whatever the zone level ends at. Most likely they'll be level 100 for end game content and will probably be more fleshed out.
Balancing we already knew it was an issue and this was the reason for the closed betas and now the early access beta and open beta this weekend which is going through testing things and testing server stability and issues because they will have many even when the game launches due to the sheer number of players.
Level scaling alright this isn't much of an issue as for open world games its very important to have most or all areas or zones be useful end game otherwise you may as well delete half the world after the campaign. Maybe things go scale better off the world tiers or something Instead similar to difficulty in diablo 2 but theres definitely issues there as well. Yes nightmare dungeons will scale itself separately from the world however hell tides events and so on are also end game having no scaling there will just ruin things in other ways. Simply put you could remove any online aspect there where you can never see any players unless you make a world for that and you will still have issues where there is no reason to go to much of the world because its not relevant.
Scaling isn't much of an issue and if it was we would have seen it in the beta. All classes including barb once they hit level 20-25 do very well against monsters 5-15 levels higher than you despite scaling and so on.
Multiplayer and parties have been the core of diablo forever, its always faster more efficient and fun to play with people and the main story itself is solo only unless you invite people and so are strongholds it seems and so on. Diablo 2 8 man groups were very common despite the scaling of enemies and the same thing with diablo 3. This is not a bad thing at all and the way its set up here honestly brings more life into the world generally speaking and makes it feel more alive. The balancing issues that do arise without gaps in player level to how enemies scale does need to be addressed and that is the main concern most people are talking about.
Also last epoch I honestly think the new standard should focus on how last Epoch does things the systems have depth everything flows quite well though I do not know the end game and the game hasn't launched yet but it is still pretty amazing so far.

This is because it is an ultimate that uses all 3 weapon types, which can combine all the effects of legendary items into a single skill. I just don't know if such a combination of actually useful effects will exist to make it worth combining them.
