Lyrics:
I’ve been runnin’ from the white light
Just tryin’ to get to you
Tell me everything that you need
I’ve been tryin’ so hard
Ain’t got no time to lose
Tell me anything that you’ll need
To open the door
To a desperate man
Who easily could’ve run from the start
I’ve been driving on the west side again
And the rain keeps pourin’ down
Finally figured out my way
I’ve been living on the run
Cuz I can’t find
That thing that holds us up and binds us tight
I’m out here dying from the heat
Oh what am I to find
When I open the door
To desperate men
Easily could’ve run from the start
Sheltered and dead
I hear your call
Crawl inside and wait for the fall
Take shelter in the doorway
From rising storms
Take caution in the darkness
Where we have fallen
How can I replace, babe
What can’t be lost?
I don’t wanna change
I’ll rise above it
There are so many ways
Our love could make it through
But it’s so damn hard to make the change
Maybe I was born too late
For this lonely freedom fight
Maybe I was born in the wrong way
Maybe born on the wrong day - Hudba
Oh man! When I was 20 years old, I listened to Pink Floyd, the Moody Blues, Fleetwood Mac, late into the night, with only the glow of the receiver's dial in the room, zoning in, on the guitars, drums, keyboards, harmonies, lyrics. Now, I'm 65, it's 1 AM, and I'm hearing this, in a dark room, with the glow of my phone. Listening, to all the elements. The good things in life never CHANGE ❤❤❤
Love this. Rock on.
Fucking awesome, its so good
Ditto, right down to my age. ADAM ROCKS!
Same here, I'm 74! This is what I used to love about rock n roll.
I Bluetooth CZcams/ pandora to my receiver, so I still have that good sound.
I just today found out that my serious and very deadly cancer is... gone. After a full year of dying I'm now back to life.
And now this wonderful epic song drops on me. Things are looking GOOD. ☺
For those who, really, know what I'm talking about; hang in there. Good luck.
No words, but happy to hear you've recovered, can't even imagine what you've been going through!
💪
awesome
Dying? Sounds like you should replace that word with fighting... And you won! Great news. I can only imagine the weight that's been lifted. Love life with all you got, as I'm sure you will. So very happy for you😊😊
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yeaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That outro is gorgeous. I wish it would go on forever.
same here... could go on for 10 minutes without lyrics and still it would be 'ear candy'
Right?! That piano playing over the last few minutes is dope as hell.
Right.
Agreed 👍
Sgo 🍿
I tell you something. I've heard this song a million times, but it still gives me the chills. But today, after a 10k run, it hit me like a lightning bolt. The joy and the feeling of reflection were so darn overwhelming, I started dancing like a mad man! Tears were pouring down my face.
I'm so grateful for this song. It's one of my all-time faves, and I'll never forget the way it made me feel today.
If you ever come to Europe again, I'll be there with bells on!"
why you crying, dude...?
@@eyeseverywhere8246 thats called runner's high
the piano in the outro is so beautiful
the best outro in years.... when the lyrics left the piano took it over.
That goddamn piano… so good.
Sounds like Bruce Hornsby..the piano
I am a 69 year old woman who lived through many decades of great music genres. I fell in love with this band the very first time I heard them. Going to see them at The Met in Phila. in a few days and I cannot WAIT!!! Thanks guys-you are indescribable. I love you!❤️
How was it??
Saw them in St Augustine last Fall 2022. A evening of SACRED music. I will never forget it.
Sziget festival 2018 for me. thunderstorm and rain. The concert of my life
Guys i'd be honest with you: i'm a grown ass man, but this song (again) brings me to tears...this outro is just so...incredible. Bliss to my ears as always by the Drugs. Love them. simple as that.
Nothing wrong with a grown man crying
Couldn't have said it better...cheers from one grown ass man to another my friend
@@TheJMaGoo thanks bud
Nothing wrong with being a real man. Tears are the hearts way of saying you feel life.
I cried, too. It is something altogether ethereal.
I want this official.....yesterday my father passed away. During his last three nights, at one point he shouted out.."WHY ARE YOU TURNING DOWN THAT BAND YOU LOVE'S SONG "PAIN" SON...IT'S HELPING ME TO REACH GOD...I THINK I SEE HIM NOW...TURN UP THE VOLUME!!!".
It wasn't "PAIN" playing when he left us...................it was this song(CHANGE) playing.
I am crying whilst writing this.....
To know an 88 year old man found this amazing band at this last moment of his life....weakens my whole body and mind.
CHANGE is great guys.
MASSIVE THANK YOU!!!!....................may this song be HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SONIC FOXX.
Wow, God Blessed this is the song I would like playing when I die.

@@johannagustavsson9829 Thank you for that heart...that alone has given me HEART...see..youtube can be a cool place.
♥️
As good as it gets musically 👌
Sounds like Bruce Hornsby on piano
I keep coming back for 4:09.
After living for sixty years, in 2017 I experienced the toughest times in my life. I really didn’t want to live, much less deal with the normal routine we all would consider normal. I could remember two very helpful feelings I had at this time, my faith in Jesus Christ and it may sound weird to some but this live concert at the Aragon Ballroom that a very good friend/family member bought tickets and made plans for us to go see this band called The War On Drugs long before my world changed forever. I can’t explain it but it helped me tremendously. Thank You Jesus ❤️ so very much and thank you Eric, I love you man. ✌️❤️🎼
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Blasting this down the motorway in Manchester, England
Can't wait to take this whole album on a road trip. 😁
You always hear about the influences, Dylan, Springsteen, Kraut Rock, Dire Straits, etc. But every once in a while, TWOD will sprinkle in a little "Tango In The Night"-era Fleetwood Mac, and when they do it gives me the warmest, loveliest, most comfortable feeling. Like sitting down in front of a warm fire, having a nice cup of tea & a biscuit, then realizing the biscuit is a 20mg edible.
What I'm saying, people, is that, even in these weird times, there are still momentary windows through which wonderful things can emerge. We'll put a new TWOD album on that list of wonderful things.
I had this same exact thought yesterday - for me, it’s however the drums/bass are recorded, it sounds very Fleetwood Mac to my ears. And that’s a VERY good thing, FM albums are timeless sounding and I think the same thing about TWOD.
It does have Everywhere or 7 wonders vibes
Tango in the night is my favourite album of all time, there is no coincidence why I love this band 💖
@@Twod1980 I lived in Saudia Arabia in 87, and i got the tape of Tango at the local bootleg tape shop, called 747. 95% of music you bought there was homemade pirated recordings using a 60 or a 90 minute tape. Tango wasn't quite 60 minutes, so they filled the rest with b-sides Ricky, Down Endless Street, and You and I part 1. They put both You and I's together and that's the way I always heard it, until I got back home to the U.S., bought the vinyl, and discovered the Album/ CD was missing all these songs. I still can't listen to the You and I's separately. I was so glad RSD rectified that on the Alternate Tango vinyl a couple years back
Yes, certainly major Bob Dylan and Mark Knofler influenced. But also, in some of their past music, I hear The Rolling Stones and even some Beatles. I forget off hand which album and song but i heard a Beatles sound in there somewhere. I’ve also heard a Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five) influence. I am a big fan of Robbie Bennett’s keyboards - always subtle but wonderful. I hear a distinct Bruce Hornsby piano influence in this one. Am I wrong? I really enjoy his piano and keyboards on all tracks but his piano on “In Reverse” is spectacular. Does anyone agree?
Six-minute song that feels like it's over in 30 seconds because it pulls you in so close.
I'm an old school rocker from the 80's. When I first heard these guys, it hit hard. I swear these songs are about my life. Listening to them even though its painful, its also a calm healing feeling. Awesome stuff...
ur not kiddin buddy. what kick ass band
Just a great album. But get out of you bedrooms people. I’m 65 too. My wife& i saw Florence Black in London this year, my mates & i have booked March 22 for Smith Kotzen. So many reflective comments here. Keep Rocking.
i just listned to the new album...
i am 51 years old, and in a desperate situation with my life right now., i am about to possibly miss the love of my life because i was an idiot... a fucking idiot..
with a tear in my eye... hard to work on a construction site when your heart is broken...
and i heard this song this morning, and it gives me hope...
I frigin love this band, saw them live in Denmark a few years back...
brilliant..
❤️
Cheers, man 🍻🍻
Hang on, man! Good times will come
IMO best band rn in 2023
if you like The war on drugs you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home To Sleep In, it gives me war on drugs vibes and its one of the best new indie songs I've heard
Love it! So much that I wish the ending was longer.
Oh man. Hard times are back.
Seriously excellent. Due to be discharged after open heart surgery today which went well.. Lying in my bed struggling to hold back the tears. Such a joyful outro..Search for the beauty in this world and embrace it!
Long live the war on drugs ✊🏻
The last 2 minutes made my day. Great song but my god what an ending.
This is music that makes me so happy to be in my 50’s and to be young at heart. Life is forever but our time on earth is not. Musical moments like this bring great joy and meaning to life. I love the feeling of impermanence this song gives me. I sit back and reflect on how sweet it is to be alive now. Thanks TWOD. See you on stage in NYC in January 2022.
.. thx that all of you`ve stayed around to bless so many with new opportunities, ideas in sounds and poetry.. hanging on and around.. man.. what a ride ;) I feel less afraid for now.. onwards
Perfect song for every occasion.
Love it, very Fleetwood Mac in a good way.
My first thought!
Best tune so far... Love the "Change" at 3:24 when they mute the guitar reverbs and make an epic turn to the basic core of their sound. Stunning theme. 👌✨
I agree, I keep going back to that last verse and to the end. So beautiful, I think this is about current events. Yes I love freedom and we are about done as a free people. Live free of die!
Yes, my favorite part!
Yes I agree, I think it's called a Spoken Bridge. I've mostly heard it in old country/folk songs where the main singer comes in and just talks to you about what the song is about
Love it! Change right now is my favourite!
May all who've lost their spirit through drugs find happiness on the other side ♡|♤|☆
❤️
I have won over drugs and I hope that everyone who wants to end this will make it
🙏💕
THATS IT.MY SPIRIT HAS GONE..WOW..
❤️
The extended outro at the end is just perfect. Beautiful song all around. One of my favourites
if you like The war on drugs you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home To Sleep In, it gives me war on drugs vibes and its one of the best new indie songs I've heard
Wow.....Umm 😮 I just Struck Gold On the Radio in 2021 WHAT ? !!!!
I thought that Stopped Happening 20 Years ago ???
These Guys are A Bob Dylan/ Original 80's Memories/ Good Vibes Band all In One .... Brilliant Writing Soothing Music !!!!! 🤘 Unreal !!!!
My daughter introduced me to TWOD band a couple of years ago and I am so glad she did. The last two albums and now this one play all the time on my car journeys. I’m 75 years young.
Yeah man!! Enjoy!!
U hv a great daughter
Deeper understading and I dont live here anymore are fucekn LIT. they get better with age
Absolutely buzzing to see these in Leeds next year. And then again in Madrid. Every chance I get to see them I'm going to take
I heard this song, it hit me and i cried
When that piano kicks in I find myself smiling unconsciously
My god... Can this band do anything wrong? I don't think so. Kudos to The War On Drugs for reminding us what real heartfelt music can do to soothe the soul.
Truth.
Yeeaaahhhhh see you in Berlin this Year!😍🥰
Done it again! This is the song of the year. The last 2 minutes are just pure joy and melody.
The piano solo.
Yes, like a beautiful Hymn.
one of the best songs ever
Absolutely Amazing! That outro is Bruce Hornsby playing on a Fleetwood Mac track. I can't wait for this album!
Fantastic new single. War on Drugs are without a doubt one of my favorite bands of the 21st century so far. They have such a unique sound, every song sounds so fleshed out and well done. I can't wait to hear this new album in full
One of the best modern bands ever, their sound is timeless
I’ve had this on repeat for the last 3 days and I’m counting down the minutes now until the new album is released. The best, most important band of the last 15 years.
The way he sings "I'm out here dying in the heat" at 1:48 gives me goosebumps
I hear a tiny Metallica in the live version wait I have to go find it again! Another excuse to play this again and again!
Favorite band by far.
The guitar has such a Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks vibe and it’s SO good.
👍🥰
This is a real band
The outro man, so many layers…transcendental !
Amazing band, they are playing next year in Amsterdam, ill be there!
This sound like it came from another age, damn good
The best song by the best group of this century.
Absolutely class track. Stunning. And that last 2 minutes outro is sublime. Spine tingling
I wish the end would go on for 10 more minutes.
finleyscotland extend the outro on many of their songs - someone should suggest this to the band . For some unknown reason, they choose to abbreviate some very intriguing, awesome riffs (outro)…in my opinion, a very creative chance lost each time. Just my opinion.
@@mikeconti9470 They play extended versions at concerts. I wish they would just jam like the Dead does.
Once in a lifetime music.
I'm in total agreement... Can't get enough of it ❤️
The best band on the planet the past ten years. Underrated and overlooked. Special x
NOT ANYMORE....and never by me.
It’s so good to be among kindred spirits who love this band.I live in rural Ireland & the lads look like our local mechanics & panel beater’s.In other words,Real!
If you’re after a rough day grab a beer & load up Changes, under the pressure,in chains, pain & whatever else gets you smiling. It’s like having a shower but being bathed with musical notes.
Long long long live the rock band & thank you The War on drugs.Ye have thrown great guitar driven music the life bouy it needed & hallelujah to that🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘💛💛💛
Good vibes and good music right?
I've not bought an album on day of release for years. That changes on 29th
GOOD ON YA...never been more of a time when artists and songwriters have needed support from fanbases.
Today !!
I just discovered my new Favourate Band,,✌

This is just outright epic.
Oli Schulz hat mich verführt.....vor 5 Jahren, seitdem kann ich nicht mehr los lassen vonTWOD, danke Oli!!

Additional note
This song will's me to try for a better tomorrow
God I’ve waited for this album. Bottle of wino waiting in the fridge, new headphones ordered - Friday is going to be an awesome evening🥳
dude, doing it RIGHT!
These fellers know how to build up a song lemme tell ya ❤️
That outro for me, really seems to empathize that despite all the changes and stages we go through in life, we’ll be ok. So beautifully written.
I just want to say, after all these almost 7 years that I discovered War On Drugs:
Thank you for helping me fight against my own war. See you in Berlin.
Is Friday here yet...can't wait. Please hurry.
Picking up the record tomorrow!
Pain with a sprinkle of hope.
May be their best album
Does this band ever miss??
Nope they are one band where their albums get better 😀🎵
The Best Album so far. Yes on all counts. Especially Change.
The album is just JAWDROPING.!
The live version tiny is way better to my ears
The best song of this band in my opinion, from the beginning to the end it's just perfect
Repeat, repeat, repeat...
3 seconds in and you know it's a great song!
So true. How is that?
@@supereagle39 the beautiful guitar riff on the Rickenbacker sets the tone
Could listen to that outro all night
2nd best outro ever that I can think of. Does seem like 2 different 3 minute songs though not that I am complaining..
which outro is your number 1?
@@willembierema8552 Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits (1980)
Did I mention I love this song!
The piano reminds me of Bruce Hornsby…just like a casual walk..perfect.
if you like The war on drugs you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home To Sleep In, it gives me war on drugs vibes and its one of the best new indie songs I've heard
So smooth!
this song is so beautiful, it's nostalgic and sad but in a comforting way, I discovered about The War on Drugs too late probably. but better late than never. this song makes me think about my loved one who is currently 3000 kilometres away from me. “there are so many ways our love could make it through, but it's so damn hard to make that change”. ❤️
little update because I'm listening to this song after a long time, he broke my heart. now this song makes me cry even more but it's still even more comforting at the same time. it's incredible how much a song can bring back memories and nostalgia. thank you The War on Drugs. ❤
Great last part
So nice to see nothing but nice and kind comments on here for a change. Just shows how good this band is. Any other band…6mins is plenty to get through a song but these guys are different, could just have this song play all day and wouldn’t get bored. Can’t wait for the album
Play this song all day? That’s basically what I’ve been doing. 😎 🎵
This is a very good f*ing song
This album, such a great companion!
Just simply...sonic nirvana
Love! In that riff all I hear is a modern take on the Smiths and Johnny Marr 😍
A little REM, too…
I got that Johnny Marr vibe as well , another great song by them
You Guys are the Best...
Anyone hear The Troggs in that guitar? "I can feel it in my fingers..."
Those instrumentals at the end, as always, beautiful, makes me wanna live and fly IDK THIS BAND DRIVES ME CRAZY
I recently discovered The War on Drugs. Love them so far. This record just showed up at my door. Spun it for the first time today.
I envy you. Enjoy your journey.
Loved it! Greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
