They play arenas and have a Grammy. But I love them anyway. Ha! Great band. I actually got into Kurt Vile first, then learned he played on TWOD's first album. I love this band.
By the time this song ends you didn't realize of those nearly 9 minutes that the song lasts. That's what I call magic. Definitely it's one of the masterpieces of the past decade.
You are right, I didn't realise it had been that long. I have a new band to listen to
@@theradioattheendoftheworld4251 YEAH MAN, THEY ARE GREAT
This shit is glorious.
I've listened to this song dozens of times and I had no idea it was this long!
The reverb, echo and fade are just haunting.
This is the anthem of starting over, leaving a painful past behind
On a building site in Hammersmith London today.
Heard this coming out of someone's jbl speaker they'd set down.
I just stopped and listened.
Asked who's it was, and what this song was.
Guy found me the track.
Here i am 7 years since this dropped.
What a beautiful song 🎵
It's like a long calm cool journey
Reminds me of being in the car, as a kid, in the late 90s, early 2000s. In the rain. Driving from Toronto to Montreal, to visit extended family. Dad at the wheel, Mom reading a book. Man do I miss those days. Never knew things would ever get so hard. Thought the jubilation and shear joy of life, family, friends... it was all just a given. I dream about it in my sleep, still. And then I wake up, and try to find a way to make that my life again... not back, but forward. It won't ever be the same. But it might just do.
I said yo thanks for sharing that dawg
Felt that.
I feel the same. 42 and resetting it all. Feel positive friend
Damn, that hit home for me. Although I'm from a different continent, I have similar memories.
Beautiful introspection.
10 years later, and this song is still in my rotation. I never get tired of this song at all, mixing so much styles of rock music with intense emotion. The War on Drugs is criminally underrated.

Yep! Saving my life too!
I am 78 and I found them 10 years ago. What a band is right.
Am I the only one that played this song 15 times in a row?
Nope 🙂
I run marathons. This is one of my favorite songs to listen to while out running. From the steady beat at the start of it, to the more raw feel of the final chorus, to the dreamy state for minutes at the end. This song is gorgeous, at least to me.
My favorite running song too :)
❤
Stumbled accidentally onto this band and GLAD I did, pure and simply greatness.
This was on my marathon soundtrack. Just cracked 3 hours at age 46 this past November! 2nd best time ever to my 2005 PR. Great soundtrack music!
Absolutely
Found this band by accident on CZcams (like many people I guess) and started listening to the various tracks on here. Being nearly 70, I obviously don't take to a lot of the computerised music that is created these days. That's ok though, it is just how the world evolves.
However, this band seem to have that X factor for me. Very original and not just going with the trends. If they have a story to tell, they tell it. Well crafted, well played and just going about their business.
Having seen many of the legends live back in the 79s and 80s - Deep Purple, Status Quo, Frank Zappa, Santana, Supertramp et al - it was a pleasure to discover these guys and restore my faith in original music. Hope they keep it up for a while yet. I will be listening.

Hello, Clerk.
A few years ago, I too, came across this band; trawling the Internet for a "guitar" band. So glad that I did. It combined two things that I wanted: to see the film, Pan's Labyrinth and the aforementioned guitar heavy band. The film was recommended by a Polish friend and the two seemed to connect for myself, mostly due to the artistic brilliance and weirdly they both have a cicada element to them ( in the film there is an insect and the intro to this song has a similar motif. Thought it was meant to be...
Keep on exploring. It sounds as if you have many amazing memories, as do I and the main thing is to keep making them so they have a reference point and keep them all in perfect clarity.

This brilliant track is literally aural peyote. It's riveting, soul stirring. They didnt just catch a wave with this one, they became the wave. Well done guys. It conjures up so much energy and emotion and takes you on a journey that you never want to end. What a ride.
Went through psychosis a couple years back for about 6 months and stopped being able to enjoy the music I loved so dearly due to it. I went to rehab and these guys brought me back to my love in music again. I found them prior but they were the ones that sparked that joy in music and the catalyst for me to come back to life again. Forever grateful it’s not a lot of times music can move me to tears but they are able too for some reason.

Underrated comment.
One of the greatest songs ever written. At a time where music is made for the masses, written by old men, sung by actors, The war on drugs is an absolute diamond in the rough.
There's a limitless wealth of amazing music these days, you just have to dig a little deeper. The "music that is made for the masses" probably represents like 10% of current music, it's just in our face so much that we think it's all there is.
Yes this band is amazing! I saw them last year and must say it's one of the best concerts i've ever been to.
I'd say they're pretty polished actually, cool band anyways:)
Music for the masses must be resisted. Stay strong. They can't break us.
how come the "music for the masses" in the previous decades was amazing and the somewhat obscure was amazing too. This generation sucks with music. You have to admit that the only way to be popular today is to be good looking. Talent is secondary.
I can't believe it's already been a decade since Lost In The Dream was released. This is one of those perfect from start to finish albums. Truly incredible.
This song deserves a billion views.
Aye.and then some.
It's hard to find words to describe how warm, beautiful and hypnotic this song is. I'm so glad I found this.

Think I was searching for queen about a year ago "Under Pressure" so there's me intoxicated and depressed once again, think I clicked on this by accident. Listened to it all the way through, and then again, and again and again, started looking up there music. Found a comment on here about how it stopped a guys depression and stopped him wanting to give up. Never looked back from there on in. On hearing this in that very moment! My life just changed. I cried my eyes out realised changes needed to be made and cracked on with it. The War On Drugs what a band! Helped me massively reading that guys comment that night after hearing this. He said he heard it got into the band and all there music and it helped him and Boy it really helped me if they ever play in the UK I will be there.
And out of pure accident I looked away from my screen while scrolling, looked back and set eyes on this comment... Love it!!!" maybe we might walk past each other at that gig and never know it... and more important, the person who was born again might even be there!

[Verse 1]
Well, the comedown here was easy
Like the arrival of a new day
But a dream like this gets wasted
Without you
[Chorus]
Under the pressure
Is where we are
Under the pressure
Yeah, it's where we are, babe
[Post-Chorus]
Oh, you're the only one
Like an illusion
[Verse 2]
When it all breaks down and we're runaways
Standin' in the wake of our pain
And we stare straight into nothin'
But we call it all the same
You were raised on a promise
Found that over time
Better come around to the new way
Or watch as it all breaks down here
[Chorus]
Under the pressure
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
Well, the break down here
Stole it all the way across
I wanna climb downhill
Stranded on
When you come here and I'm wasted
Lyin' on a field, dancin' in the rain
Hidin' in the back, loosenin' my grip
Wadin' in the water, just tryin' not to crack
[Chorus]
Under the pressure
Yeah, it's where we are, babe
Under the pressure
Woo!
♥️👏🏻
Thanks for that
love it when somebody puts up the words ..peace out from Australia
I always thought he says I love you instead of without you

There is an inherent beauty to psychedelic music, helping find colors, shapes, and angles in the world that might be so readily apparent in an everyday setting. Great song.
This isn't psychedelic.

@@UnitSe7en slippery slope :P
Yeah not psychedelic. Seems kinda old school New Wave to me.
This is just straight up rock and roll music, it's even pretty simple and uses a very familiar song structure.
It just happens to be nice and sounds good and has a good feel to it. Great song , but nothing even close to 'psychedelic' - people are so easily moved by colors and video

The absolute joy or hearing this for the first time !
I was introduced by a friend , thanks for changing my life with your music ,
The first time I heard this was at the gym I was working at in the winter 2014, shortly after a bad breakup. The outro caught my attention, so I quickly asked google what track it was and downloaded it. One of the most beautiful discoveries I made, especially considering the rough depression I was experiencing. I soon saw this video one morning on TV before going to work. This song always made me feel so good, almost like it reminded me everything was gonna get better. It really took my mind of self destructive behaviors and suicidal thoughts. It motivated me to do better for myself because I deserved it.
Years later (2018) I found out that this whole album was one absolute masterpiece. I'm actually sad I missed out on the other songs during 2014-2015, the healing process would have been better.
Cheers to The War On Drugs.
Helped me during my depression too. Heck I even had the album cover art as my whatsapp dp for months. That image picturized exactly how I felt.
Definitely one of the best albums and band I've heard till date.
I hope you guys are better now.

If you take out the bass in this band, you won't recognize what you are listening to. So good. Even in the mix the bass is LOUD......wonder why..........
if you like The War On Drugs you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home To Sleep In, it gives me strong War On Drugs vibes and its one of the best new indie songs I've heard

I'm an old dude, and for decades, my favorite albums were from the 70s and 80s. If you told me back in 2017, that my favorite album ever, was coming out that year, i would have said no way. A deeper understanding moves me in ways i cant describe. Their newer album is pretty damn close too
