Lyrics:
I was lying in my bed
A creature void of form
Been so afraid of everything
I need a chance to be reborn
I never wanted anything
That someone had to give
I don’t live here anymore
When I think about the old days, babe
You’re always on my mind
I know it ain’t like I remember
I guess my memory runs wild
Like when we went to see Bob Dylan
We danced to “Desolation Row”
But I don’t live here anymore
And I got no place to go
Beating like a heart
I’m gonna walk through every doorway
I can’t stop
I need some time
I need control
I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I’m gonna say everything that there is to say
Although you’ve taken everything I need away
I’m gonna make it to the place I need to go
We’re all just walkin’ through this darkness on our own
Now time surrounds me like an ocean
My memories like waves
Is life just dying in slow motion?
I’m getting stronger everyday
I never took our love for granted
You never left me wanting more
But you’d never recognize me, babe
I don’t live here anymore
Beating like a heart
I’m gonna walk through every doorway
I can’t stop
I need some time
I need control
I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I’m gonna say everything I need to say
Although you’ve taken everything I need away
I’m gonna take it to the place I need to go
We’re all just walkin’ through this darkness on our own - Hudba

What a beautiful song.
Wow!
First heard pain a few years back...drew me right in... Adam you are a true musician and ive discovered all of the hidden treasures from the albums past.....you continue to evolve and it really makes the war on drugs an absolute favorite band for me to listen to time and time again.
Thank you....

Sounds like audio has been updated in the video. Thanks!!!
Thank you WOD. Amazing 👏 👍🤘. I'm in love with it
Lucky enough to have friends who’s music always inspires - and then ask you to be a part of it? What?!!
Thank you for taking us on this ride.
Your performance in this is beautiful! Thank you! :)
Love your music and your vocals in this take the song to another place! Thank you and hope you can perform this live with the band!
You have added a completely unexpected dimension to it. In a great way! Well done xxx
Thank you for elevating this already awesome song 🙏
how do you two sing so well together omg
I seriously thought this was a song from the late 1980's that I'd somehow missed. I cannot stop listening to it. Everything about this song is pure poetry. I haven't heard anything this good in years.
Same. Sounds so familiar
@@user-ic1ii7ky8p Yet new. It's great.
I agree
Totally agree! 80s!
i though it was some kind of forgotten album of dire straits when i heard the band for the first time.or springsteen maybe
I shared this song with my 71 year old dad, who had never heard it. He text me back "yeah, I've always loved that song!" Because of how beautiful and nostalgic it is, he assumed it was a classic from the 80's that he remembered. God, I love this band!
I associate this with Don Henley’s Boys of Summer. Both equally great.
The 2 backup singers are absolutely sublime...
they are Lucius! Check them out, you are not gonna regret it
I absolutely love the parts where they sing the backup vocals.
Agree 100%. Takes a good song to the next level.
@@guschmidt2425 they’re wonderful. Exceptional talents.
Really like the band, backup singers is why I love the song
Love this song!!!
i thought it was a little bit shit...
Rick, is this recorded on tape or DAW?
@Rick Beato What Makes This Song Great- The War On Drugs? They are due!
Might have thought you'd be a fan. They're a "new-ish" band, but their sound transcends time. Of course, the 80s vibe helps. Glad a legend like you is on board.
Hey Rick nice to see you here
Why does War on Drugs songs always have that nostalgic night drive feel to them. I so love that.
Agreed!
You nailed it.
🙋♀️fan of the night drive.
Because they love Pink Floyd, on their return.
He is a poet
In all seriousness: I believe this song will age like wine and critics will be talking about it for years to come. It's a new classic, through and through.
Agree 100 percent on that, more than a year later! This song was actually a bellwether for 2021 and 2022, and should remain so for the coming years. It's that profound.
Reminds me a little of the Psychedelic Furrs
czcams.com/video/AlZEdyo6uwY/video.html
This song wouldn't be half as good without the awesome backup voices. These women add so much.
yesssssssssssssss!!!
This is the best song of 2021 by far. Whoever produced it just dropped an incredible masterpiece on us. Love the 80s-inspired touches from this band; they always manage to meld that sound with something else that is uniquely their own. The resulting songs never fail to hit home. Thank god there is still music like this out there!
I agree. The atmosphere of the recording is exquisite. Really moves me.
By far, far and far:)
Amen 🙏
I totally hear this 80's song in there. JH czcams.com/video/RhxF9Qg5mOU/video.html

I am battling cancer and lost a woman I had a 3 1/2 year relationship with because I got cancer. I can relate to the song in so many ways. A masterpiece. I had never heard The War on Drugs music before hearing this song but I’m now a fan for whatever time I have left.
Hope all is well Steven

The female backup singers really help make this song. Rather than just "frill," they add an orchestral punch all their own, and so they end up being worth listening to all in themselves. Excellent complement.
yes!!
OMG! Those girls take a great song and send it to the stratosphere!!!...and beyond!!!
...and the drummer has great taste!
They have such a powerful and warm note.
They are an amazing band called Lucius.
This is my second comment, I have converted 3 people at my gym. I'm a middle aged black man, I listen to wu tang, chilli peppers, public enemy. This song is dope.
The morning after my mother passed away from cancer, my dad and I had to go to the funeral home to get things squared away for the funeral. As we came into the parking lot, this song came on the radio. We sat and listened to the whole thing before going inside. This song helps me to feel connected with everyone who experiences loss and that feeling of being lost, in whatever form it takes. A truly beautiful song.
Damn, what a song to hear at a time like that. Perfect. I hope it brought a lot of comfort!
🙏🙏🙏🙏
😢 Tears from your comment, man. Very cool tune indeed!
Beautiful history, I cried as I read your words
War on Drugs are a special band, give you nostalgia for the past, give you hope for the future, give you poetry you can believe in, uplift you when you're down. I've loved this band for 10 years now and finally got to see them live earlier this year and they we're amazing! Having listened for so many years, seeing them live was quite emotional! Love em!
Fantastic day! First time in months there's no smoke clogging the skies. My son ran outside, "Dad, Dad... Your band just dropped a new song!" And with that the sun was a bit brighter. But nothing radiated more than the 5 plus minutes my little guy and me danced to this incredible song. This is life at its best.
That’s GREAT!
Love it!
Thanks for sharing man
Super cool story!
Has an 80's vibe to this track, taking me back to the days of Don Henley. Amazing song.
That’s why I love it-
That 80s Bruce don henley vibe.. it hits hard at night in the summer/fall . What a great song
Don henley meets Def Leppard ( Hysteriia)
@@wimpeeters1273 THAT'S IT. That's the comparison I've been trying to come up with but couldn't quite put my finger on. Especially Hysteria. THANK YOU. Also my hindbrain keeps trying to tell me that's Kate Bush on backing vocals in the chorus.
Definitely
Boys of Summer
Omg….”Am I dying in slow motion or getting stronger everyday?” Ugh…hauntingly beautiful song…🥹
one of the best verses of the many in this song
The female vocalists on this track are transcendent, really nice add love the blended
sound!
"Is life just dying in slow motion?" absolutely got caught by that line...
"If We Burn Our Wings
Flying To Close To The Sun
If The Moment Of Glory
Is Over Before It's Begun"
Neil Peart "Bravado"
This feels instantly nostalgic, like an old radio song I never found the title of until now.
My exact thoughts. Could this pass for a melloncamp song?
And Madison Square Garden will be shaking during I don't live here anymore !!! I can't wait !!!
Totally agree
It has a lot in common with Don Henley's Boys of Summer: catchy repetitive synth riff in the background overlaid with wandering guitar licks.
Reminds of like Richard Marx mixed with Roxy Music. I like it.
I love the backing vocals on this track. It's an excellent song all round but the backing vocals take it to the next level.
I noticed that too, they sound very powerful
Very true, i found myself thinking that listening to it
Lucius vocals make this song soar. It’s already beautiful but that backing vocal makes hit skyrocket

Gen X'er here as well. This song is incredible and it sends me spiraling back into the 80's with memories of a kid. This song came out of no where and just hit me in the heart. Thanks to Apple Music for putting it on my "New Music" suggestions.

I was a child of the 70s born mid 60s but learned life in the 80s the greatest of times and the second I heard this song I was transformed back to that time. Thanks for the memories

By far the best discovery of this dreadful year, real chords, thumping drums, a crisp piano, even a saxo... reminds me of the 80's, all delivered with a bite and hunger for more
I got hooked on this track in January 23. I was stuck in a hotel in Angeles City Philippines with terrible food poisoning. I couldn't move or eat and lay there with the TV remote playing this song on CZcams over and over again. Watching this video and loving every second. Its simply outstanding and now I'm better....well its even sweeter !!!

Live long and prosper, my friend. Love your taste.
The song has a 1980's Don Henley vibe to it. As a Gen X'er.....I love it!
Feeling some "Betty Davis Eyes" with Springsteen's 80s Era. It can't go wrong!!!! Absolutely f*cking Great Tune!!! 😍
También un Bryan Adams , espectacular tema hacen todos juntos 😄
Sounds great. But to me it sounds a bit like "Animal" from Def Leppard, slowed down, for the most part... with a couple more elements thrown in...
Nevertheless, anything that can bring a bit of the 80's sound and spirit back it's OK by me... 😎
@@conan5885 yes indeed, my friend! 🤓

😂
the bob dylan references !! “creature void of form” (shelter from the storm) and “like when we went to see bob dylan and danced to desolation row” !!! brilliant
First time I listened, I was like "Wait a second, that's a Dylan lyrics"
@@bhawx10 Me too haha...Just listening to it first time now and came to comments to see if anyone else noticed
Desolation row -> ‘they’re painting the passports brown (fascism/covid proof of vaccine)... the circus is in town ... the blind commissioner... they've got him in a trance (media brainwashing/pressure to conform/police a specific narrative)... And the riot squad they're restless, they need somewhere to go (ie. after the resistance) ... As Lady (the “woman” is taken to safety/shelter from the storm... while awaiting the bridegroom’s arrival)... and I (a watchman)... look out (keeping watch) tonight (=from the darkness)... (the betrayer/treacherous betrays/cheats in the cover of darkness... )
It’s quite smart, as Dylan loaded so many (symbolic) images into the two songs referenced-granduciel is sort of having his cake and eating it too... ie. he made what sounds like a cool pop song, that floats (not heavy) as it’s kind of shallow (in comparison to the weight of a Dylan masterpiece), he’s barely casting any aspersions in the process-but once you dig into Dylan’s lyrics, you know he’s actually pointing towards what is happening-the darkness that the world is in. He’s subtly playing the role of the town crier... (again by quoting a previous town crier) ‘it’s 12 o’clock and all is (not) well... get out while you can, the enemy has landed...’
I can't believe how far ahead these guys are of the pack when it comes to genuine music and instrumentation. Is there something they know that everyone else doesn't? They have beauty in their music that no one else can capture. One can only hope they inspire a generation so that great music can continue in the future.
Check out " better" by Michigander, my other favorite new song. And the whole new Del Amitri album

One of the most emotional songs that I ever heard in last years , too much feelings at the same time. Congratulations guys, well done . 10/10
Best song I've heard in my head ever it's a pure masterpiece and I pretty much know whose life inspired it well done absolutely nailed it Dave Learmont
Those Lucius girls really make this song. Its amazing as it is but when they sing.. "we're all just walking through this darkness" it goes to another level
if you like The War On Drugs you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home To Sleep In, it gives me strong War On Drugs vibes and its one of the best new indie songs I've heard in a while
First time I heard TWOD I was driving home in a summer afternoon after playing my music during a festival. Every time I hear a new song by them, I always go back to that beautiful moment which has gone, and this song seems to be composed just for this sensation... Thank you God for giving us these awesome artists and those strong emotions
They squeeze more juice out of two chord songs than any other band going.
spot on!!!
Since tom petty with the three
The best chords 😉
On point. But they also have an added good vibe to these two chords.
IV - V chord progressions have gorgeous and almost “hopeful” and “metamorphic” melodic possibilities
"I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go; We're all just walking through this darkness on our own...
Beautiful. You actually inspired everone on the planet I think
oh that bass
80’s music will never die! This comes on the radio, turn the radio up, it’s 1986!
You have about zero chance of hearing this on the radio 🤣
Soo much more than 80's music.. wow.
Turn up the radio!!!
@@keithlarrimore sad though
@@keithlarrimore I heard it the first time on our local indie radio station serving the college crowd....also this one:czcams.com/video/yOz3VJD4L0o/video.html
Really love the vibe of this song. Sounds like an 80s song and thats a big compliment.
This is one of my faves by them. Lucius adds so much beauty to this song too with their voices ❤️
Yes, the background singing in this song is magical. I think it's the main reason I want to hear this song again and again.
I can't stop listening to this song...remembering the old days.
In forty years I'll tell my grandkids this one is from my day 👌
Everyone has a story. I'm just here for the music.
I wasn't sure if your comment was said with sarcasm or not. But I don't think having a story attached to a piece of music is optional for many people. It's just the way of things. Music has an amazing ability to take a given moment we are living through and providing a safe and certain place for that memory to be held. I for one can't imagine it being any other way as I'm sure so many others couldn't. It a great gift music gives us.
Great song! Period!!!!!
This song would have been a massive hit in the golden 80's !
