Thank you for making this video! Helped me a lot!
Glad it helped!
I have the 2017 model of this bike and I love it. I installed a dropper post and rather than upgrade to tubeless I installed Tannus armour in the tires. I also took 2 inches off the handlebars so I could get between the trees more easily. For me the bike has been reliable, with no damage to the bike from my numerous collisions with terrain.
How do you like the Tannus tire liner
So far I like them but I have limited time on the trails. When the weather in Iowa clears up and I can get some trail time I will be able to give you a better answer.
@@davecrashes4905 update?
You make some great videos...👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, helps to have cool bike stuff to check out.
Trying to decide between a Roscoe 7 and Fuel EX5 2020 any opinions would be welcomed. Need a setup for best climbing and Fuel is high end of my budget both bikes seem badass
hi, i was wondering if the same specs are on the 27.5 plus version?
Thanks in advance
Video on the plus version coming out soon, but in the meantime, everything except the wheels/tires is the same on the plus version. The 27.5+ will have upgraded Sun Ringle rims that are tubeless and will come with Schwalbe tubeless ready tires.
3:47 cover for the chain stay axle. 4:12 those rotors don't last long for me.
the Hubs are Formula, but Trek/Bontrager uses them, some are rebranded some had no branding at all, not consumer friendly, would be nice to have the actual name on them so people could find manual & specs.
tip you sohuld have included KG.
Any thoughts on this(or the EX 5 plus) vs. a Santa Cruz Tallboy?
If you have SC money, go for it!
The mino link only adjusts geometry. You can run the low and high positions with either the 29 or 27.5+ tires, all good.
Sorta, the 27.5+ version also has 10mm more fork travel.
Jamesthebikeguy but you can still run either geometry with either wheel size, regardless of the 130 or 140mm fork up front. You’re going to get a bunch of pedal strikes regardless of wheel size and geometry setting, my 29er clips them everywhere in the high setting.
The pedal threading was stripped from the beginning. And it has broken off twice and will not go back on. How do we get a replacement pedal
Gracias por el vídeo amigo
Thanks for watching
De nada saludos de 🇲🇽
if jo one has told u ur the man ,, ur the man . i bought tjis bike after watching this
Thanks, enjoy the bike!
And how did y ok u like it? And what do they cost. One guy says the price is way to high and another guy says he got one for 1000.00
Rlly want to get this bike x
Yeah it would be a great bike.
can I take this bike on jumps and the shocks can be pumped with air with a pump that loved the review.
the big question is what it will take to misalign the bearings, with the 2014 model not much, was super flexy, but this one looks stiffer, but single shear pivots is still a mistake. 0:30
I am waiting for reply from trek/dealer, I hope for new frames, I hope it won't take too long, cus if so I will have to buy new frame and parts build new bike.
the new frames look stiffer, but I am sceptic to how it performs.
I have hammered mine for 2 years and I weigh 210+ and have had 0 issues
@@danieldevine5347 is it the newer model like 2019 or newer? I assume you mean 210 pounds/95 kg. I am 86kg with all gear on. then ewer bikes are clearly stiffer.
i've got a question about these kinds of bikes. These bikes aren't good to ride thru road ? i mean the suspension that there is in middle of the frame absorb force when i'm trying to ride?
Well, a mountain bike is not going to be perfect on the road. It's kind of like purchasing a Lifted Jeep to drive on the highway. That being said modern suspension such as Trek's ABP is pretty good and will pedal just fine
Got this bike yesterdayyyy
Awesome 👍
Me week ago :-D
How much did it cost ?
Vlad Bastea about $2,200
Leo Wilkinson got a badass deal on mine, $1000 with a specialized carbon fiber seat
awesome bike. im trying to save up for this style of bike(used of course) because I have just tried out a friends full suspension and I can't stop thinking about it. ill try to sell my bike for 400$(paid 530) and save up 400$somehow haha
#bikegoals good luck!
U can get it on finance for 48a month
ADRN same bro hope you get it
So I'm looking for a new fs bike under 2000. I have my eye on the 2019 specialized st 27.5, the the trek shown on this video, the kona process 134 2017, and the Scott spark. I think I'm leaning towards the new stumpjumper but my main criteria is 27.5 wheels, at least 120 mm of travel (front and rear) and overall a good deal. I'm not to concerned about a dropper post since I'm getting one either way (specific to the bike I get) any help is appreciated, thanks!
I would think about the Specialized Stumpjumper ST
@@Jamesthebikeguy i have this fulsus bike.nothing to say about it.its the best bike for its price.love it.
@@kapbike7244 nice!
Maximiliano Quinones check the Fezzari Abajo Peak
I own this.
Was going to upgrade components but got a serious promotion... likely buying a carbon bike but entry level also...I love to upgrade stuff.
Edit same size too. I have a dropper of course however
Congratulations on your promotion!
Dying to find video and review of the 9.8. Ordered it, and it's still a month away from delivery. I ordered having only seen a single grainy photo on Trek's site. Last year, they gave a damn about photography.
canadianroot how do you like the 9.8?
Imagine no regrets 👍
@@michaelmcclure3383 Guess I forgot to reply. I really like it a lot, with a caveat. The seat tube angle is fairly slack, so when you use the dropper, you only get to use a fraction of its full range, unless you don't mind being off the back of the seat, and moved too far forward. They've straightened it a bit for 2020, and lengthened the fork by 10mm also. Annnnd the colour scheme is nicer, imo. But overall, I'm happy with it. Had an issue with the rear hub, and Trek replaced the wheel. Missed the month of May waiting for it (I'm in Korea), sadly. I think, for the price, it should come with XT, but the SLX isn't too bad. This is my first 29'er, and I could never go back to 26. Never had a 27.5. This thing rolls over everything, and climbs like a goat. Very well-balanced.
@@canadianroot oh thanks for the feedback!
Have you considered a smaller dropper post? That might allow it to go fully down I imagine thats quite annoying!
@@michaelmcclure3383 It's a Large, and the dropper is 150, I believe. It's still the STA that confounds. Makes it much more of an XC bike, but that doesn't really give me grief where I ride, but if I wanted to do something more technical and steep, I'd be a bit hesitant. I've learned to be better without dropping at all, but there are times when I absolutely need to, and there are times I feel like I could use more drop, but then I'm unable to squeeze the back of the saddle between my thighs, and control becomes an issue. So, I'm adapting to the bike. It's not ideal, but it does almost everything so well. Carbon bar and rims....light, stiff, and responsive. Are you considering it?
ah, i want this
Sweet right?
@@Jamesthebikeguy 👌👌👌
What do you think the better value would be this bike or the roscoe 8 hard tail? Ilike that the roscoe comes with a dropper post and 27.5 + tires. But you get full suspension with the fuel but no dropper and 400 more 600 more for the 27.5 spec. Looking to purchase my fist mtn bike for trails any input or suggestions would be great thanks!
If your going to get into riding the fuel is the way to go
Thanks for the response. We have a local trek and santa cruz dealer as well as giant and specialized dealer. The stumpjumper st is about the same price as the fuel so i think ill pick between those two. I think id perfer 27.5 tires over 29 for the nimbleness but idk honestly hopefully the bike shops can give me some advice. Thanks again.
Good clip, but you can get Better bang for your buck from other bands. Gaint and GT list goes on. 2k for a fuel 5. Shop around!
All in what you are after. This is a great plug and play bike, good sizing, and dealers to work with.
Is that what these cost ? 2000,00
What the size of the dropout?
It’s a nice bike I own the 2018, I did change tires to minions and aggressors and handles like a charm, bike creeks badly but I’m over it. I feel like it could use 2 more gears though
Have you had your LBS check out the creak? I have seen these need greasing on the main pivot and that solves the noise.
It's so strange that RS Recon is in 130 ml travel. Usualy this fork have a 100-120 ml travel. RS Sector is the one who have 130 ml travel and build on recon base. Why did they rename Sector to Recon?
Same drivetrain as the Roscoe 7/8. And brakes. I was gonna get this but went with the Roscoe 7 2020
Drivetrain same Roscoe 6/7
Sind die gabeln gut ? Will es mir für 1.999€ kaufen
Ja, die Gabeln sind gut. Viel Spaß mit dem Fahrrad!
Ive watched like all ur videos lol. How am i just finding out about you?
Been here since 2014, uploading 3x a week since late 2015. Glad you found me!
how does the hub sound like?😁
Like a standard 3 pawl hub. It uses the same hub as many Trek bikes.
What is the best trek bike for 3500 english pounds
Damn a lot of bikes man
I'm new to mtb but want a good bike, I will be able to take to Whistler bike park in the future. How much does this bike cost.
$1,799.97 Closeout
$1,999.99
@@terraisbad3837 thanks
how do you know the wheels are durable? what kind of test did you do? how do they handle rock strikes? do the spoke nipples take rock strikes? do they get rounded off when truing? will they all fail after a short time? what about flex in the wheels? how stiff are they. how many cavities do they have? single? dual triples? they might be stiffer than previous wheels, but I can't know how they will perform if I don't try them long term, but from my experience with Bontrager wheels so far has been pain in the butt, spoke nipples were like cheese on all of them, Duster 29 wheels on 2014 Fuel ex, ranger wheels on my Trek 6300.
Johannes Nilsen I think perhaps you’re being a bit critical of the wheels on an entry level full squish. They’re obviously not top of the line, but they give you two years on the warranty and for stock wheels, they’re all you could want.
@@tampabayrider proper spoke nipples would not cost mu h more, they do bad job with the right compromises.
All of your comments....dear lawd dude.
Adoogin while I’ll agree that I would’ve rather seen a set of Kovee wheels on the bike, it’s still an entry level, bare-bones full squish. You don’t get high-end wheels on bottom of the barrel bikes. You /do/ get air shocks, boost spacing and all of Trek’s frame technology. It seems like your shop didn’t set you up on the right bike to begin with, for your style of riding. EX 7 or 8 would’ve been the way to go for more abusive riding.
@@tampabayrider Totally agree, I really just wanted to let people know that they should upgrade if they're going to ride hard. My LBS tried to get me to upgrade to a 2017 demo with Fox suspension but I really, really didn't have the money so I went with the 5. I still love the @#$%@! out of the bike and it brings me more joy than you can imagine
will the shocks hold my weight of 280lb
Probably, thought it's over the Bike's weight limit I bet you would be ok
some critique:
any reason you only film the drive side? would be nice with both sides.
1:56 would be nice without any thing blocking what we are looking at, like your logo is doing at 1:56
if you want writing having it to the right between the shock and top, down tube, but you filmed the same area again without and logo so it's not a big deal.
How much does the bike cost
Bout 1,700 bucks
First thank you for the video. I almost got this bike, thankfully I did my due diligence on comparing other levels of the ex. I would only go with this if you were seriously strapped at this price point. Other than that the 2019 7 EX is by far (FAR) a better and capable bike. 2019 fuel EX ordered last week.
EX 7 is a great buy right now.
i am about 5’7 13 yrs old should i get 29er or a 27.5. i’m coming off of a trek marlin 6 but i want a full suspension bike but don’t want to spend too much.
17.5" frame so a 29er
Price?
Stop by your local bike shop
How much?
2100€ wich is about 7 obese kids per 58MCdonalds/square Nautical mile
that's £600 more than the 2014 version of the ex5 dam theyre increasing fast
3:28 SunRace cassette,
some more critique:
Wrong terminology is used at 3:43, it does not go through, it moves the rocker link, moving through means something else, like an axle slides trough the hub.

Prices????

In my country 2000 euros
In Canada this bike goes for 2599.99. Pig with lipstick courtesy of Trek. Who put a Press fit BB and low end Altus Hydro brakes on an expensive bike. Trek does...
Trek loves reusing frames and tacking very bad components on them and slapping an overpriced tag.
Joe N a canyon would beat this trek anyday with way better kit for the price
I bought today in Italy, the same new bike on offer at 1500 €
Juuust bought this unit....im 50 and i dont give a shit!....I'll Make it work!😜
Rock on! Have fun.
@@Jamesthebikeguy well😊...i changed my mind. Got the 7 instead! 🍺
the only thing i hate is no dropper
Luckily it is ready to be installed and routed internally
Next time can you add a freehub sound session in the bike review?
Thank you for the suggestion.
this bike Avails here At philippines And the price is 18k peso bill
Nice.
Nukeproof mega is a better spec for a similar price only like 400 more but u get a dropper, yari, and nx eagle what's not to love!!!
No, the nukeproof mega costs more than 1000€ more than the trek fuel ex 5
well i guess thanks for informing me all about this bike without mentioning the price a single fucking time so i have no idea if i want it or not
Good thing I am not trying to sell it to you, so giving you a price is irrelevant.
How much
Stop by your local Trek dealer
@@Jamesthebikeguy pricey I guess
@@stevendouglas3860 last I checked, I don't know where you live or what dealers charge in your area. What I do know is if you could search CZcams and find this video then you are capable of going to the manufacturer's website to see the MSRP or where a dealer is you could call.
@@Jamesthebikeguy thanks James
Just say how much it costs
For a variety of reasons no. Luckily if you could use a search bar to find this video I bet you can do the same for the price in your local area.
Jamesthebikeguy tell me the reasons
bradan orourke You could live in a different country than him, which means different currency, which means that cost is different. Do it yourself.
god i wish i had the money
How much it costs?
Not tuneless ready is disappointing!
Really? What entry-level bike that comes with $500 wheels and $150 tires to be tubeless ready?
@@Jamesthebikeguy giant stance comes tubless ready at around 1400.00
That bike appears to be $1550, and has alivio 2x9 and Suntour suspension... no wonder they had money left over for tubeless
@@Jamesthebikeguy yeah this year they do come with suntour suspension. The year I have which is 2017 it came with rockshox. Yes and your correct a 2 x drive train which you can up grade to a 1x for under 300. Or you can get the trekand upgrade the wheel set for ,500.00 you said?
Sounds like the Trek is still a better deal. Or rather better yet, just buy the Fuel EX5 27.5+ and it's tubeless out of the box
Nice bike... This does not seem like a entry bike...
Well in the FS segment it is
that is like the worst price to spec bike on the market. I'd like the xxl frame and rspect is due for that, but the price is just ridiculous
Lots of the price goes into the frame. Good news is the 2020 got some major spec upgrades. Video coming out soon
Actually this one of the bikes from trek which is not worth buying
Not tubeless compatible
Those are the exact same rims you find on the Marlin models
That bike must be way more cheaper or at least being tubeless compatible
I just gave you a thumbs up... cept for the not worth buying part... I love mine but I understand yer point.
How much?
