Adjusting Trek Minolink (How-To) (4K)

  • Trek dual suspension mountain bikes come with the Mino Link, a plate which can be positioned to change the BB height and head angle. This can be adjusted depending on your riding style and where you ride.
    When I bought my Trek Remedy I couldn't find any videos on how to adjust the minolink- so since I am off the bike after I broke my wrist (see a video of the crash here: • Wrist Fracture Crash o... ) I have made this how-to.
    Mino Link Position:
    Mino Link logo facing FORWARD: Low and slack (for sending it FORWARD)
    Mino link logo facing BACKwards: High and Steep (for climbing BACK up)
    Minolink is not only on the Trek enduro bikes with RE:aktiv (Trek Remedy and Slash) but can also be found on Trek Fuel, Stache and Powerfly FS e-bikes.
    Suggestions from viewers:
    - Ensure the minolink bolt is done up to 17nm of torque to ensure safety and to prevent it coming lose! (Thanks @Christian Boswell)

    One thing I can warn folks about - torque wrenches (maybe some expensive ones are ok!) don’t work on reverse thread. Mine didn’t anyway and we snapped the bolt. So take care if planning to accurately torque! (Hope your hand is better 😊)

    At last an actual explanation of how to do this and also how it is made up and assembled ... No explanation anywhere else even Treks Video after a load of waffle only shows an alan key being waved near it for a couple of seconds?? tells you nothing, The first thing anybody will do after looking at Treks video that will be putting a waking great long extension on the Allan key in order to be able to get enough leverage on what appears to be a tight nut anti clockwise (as you would to undo anything) when in fact it needs to be turned clockwise to undo it as what you are actually doing as clearly shown in this video is actually turning the inside of the bolt coming in from the back.... Big thank you for a great video we can all understand and no stupid music

      No worries- thanks for watching. For the first few months, I only rode in the steep mode and I was more than happy my Remedy 8. (you’re right!) But once I changed it to the low/slack mode it has made the descents feel much more planted (and much faster on strava) and it has no negative effect on climbing. I was concerned that I would have more crank strikes- but that’s no different either. I couldn’t think of any reason I would change it back. Unfortunately I have never ridden the shapeshifter- when I was in the market for a new bike I believe the difference was that shapeshifter could be adjusted while riding. Hope that helps!

    • @joesan3597
      @joesan3597 Před 5 lety

      @@GasFlow1 So by slack mode, you mean the Mino link facing forward? I guess so as I see it from your video and from your description! So you also confirm that the Slack mode has no effect when climbing? I have to check my Remedy on which mode the Mino link is! I guess the factory settings is to have it in climb mode. If so I will change it and see how it goes.
      Would it also be possible to make some videos on maintenance? For example., adjusting deraileur, gears, chain alignment etc? There are of course many videos out there, but I think you have the same bike as me, so it would be easier for me to just follow! I will also try to make some maintenance videos of my Remedy!

      @Joesan, That's right- keep the logo facing forward for the slack (head angle) and low (bottom bracket) position. No problems, with the Mino Link logo facing forwards: the bottom bracket is lower and the geometry is more "slack". This is preferable
      for descending as the bike is more planted and stable. With the Mino link logo facing Backwards it is the opposite, with a higher bottom bracket (meaning less crank strikes on the trail) and steering will be more responsive. Ultimately it all depends on what you prefer- so try both for your riding style and trails and see what works best for you. Thanks for watching, I hope that helps.
