  • We are installing a budget DIY side view blind spot camera system in our 2013 Mercedes Sprinter Van conversion.
The total cost of the project including the monitor came out to be about $100-$120, well below the price of some side view kits available online ($500+)
This will make it easier to park in tight spots and to navigate deeply rutted or narrow dirt roads. We have the option of adding a front view camera or an under vehicle camera in the future, so the system is expendable and offers 360 degree views around the vehicle.
    Items Used:
    7" Monitor: a.co/8vFIfdA
    2 Side view cameras: a.co/jdRtnak
    iBeam turn signal interface: a.co/cGKSeKy
    and an existing reverse camera.
Wiring instructions for a 2013 Mercedes Sprinter:
    Reverse Wire= White & Blue
Left Turn Signal Wire= Black & White
Right Turn Signal Wire= Black & Green
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, we will be more than happy to answer.

Add a hidden camera under side mirror to blind spot side mirror light indicator power wire. it turns on the camera on that side of which ever side a vehicle is approaching from the rear and shows up on the 4-quad screen only or by pass with all 4 going and or powers on when detection is detected and front and rear can be with constant on and off power switch straight to battery for continuous recording and or monitoring.

Broke my mirror, some years Simply tilt out a little then slide upwards like mine! NOT simply pull away. Thanks for not mentioning that. Be careful everyone, check removal instructions for your specific year!

Great video! Taking off the side mirrors you can actually pull it off by positioning the top as forward as possible and pulling it up straight out of a bracket.

Just came across your very helpful video as I'm about to do the same on my VW Camper. Can you tell me how the system is working since the install. And, why did you choose iBeam interface, that brand cameras and monitor instead of others on the market.

Hello! I wonder if the turn signal's positive(+) keeps flashing. Just connect wire from Turn Signal Interface to it? So it should be work?

  • @themikeymikechannel2947

    As of 5/14/2023 - I have a 4ch but for right now I'm doing a 3ch - back - and both sides for now.
All cameras are hidden, just a normal looking car driving by.

Thanks for the video, but, I have a few questions about the installation. One is, would it work on a 2018 Dodge Journey SXT as a blind spot camera, and not just a side camera? Second question is, how would it work with a possible 8.5 inch screen with a camera interface? Third question is would it violate my warranty, if I had my dealership install it, compared to if I tried to install it myself?

Hello. I have a 2010 jeep compass. I used the TSI and got the back and front cameras to work. I wired the side cameras, connected the corresponding signal trigger wires, but when I use a turn signal, no video on screen? I'm not sure what else to do please give me possible solutions. Thank you

Great video :) I went out and purchased everything on your list, install was a bit tricky but everything works, left&right cameras work perfect, backup camera etc. No the issue i'm having is once you start the car, and shift to reverse before going to drive, the screen blanks out (front cam view) But i don't have a front cam. Now i've seen others posting about this issue but front camera screen only stays on for 10 to 15seconds before going back to stereo screen, for me it is permanently stuck on front camera and does not default back until shift back into reverse/park. Plz help

video. I have a request for some information, I have a LG stylo 2 unlocked that I don't use anymore; I want to install 2 side view blind spot cameras in my car and I want to make this unsused android smartphone a dedicated display unit for these blind spot cameras. Any ideas on how to achieve this will be much appreciated.

Thanks for this great video. I was looking at the side camera options for blind spot monitoring for my SUV and your turn signal interface seems to be what I will need to make this happen. this would make it great for installing into a head unit as they have fairly limited video inputs. usually only for reversing camera.

Hi, thanks for the video. Sir, my question is how did you do to wire the triggers for the left and right cameras? I have installed that TSI box on my car but when installing it, the left or the right are always blinking like the turn signal is on. Thank you

Someone on the Lexus forums found a timed 2 second relay is ideal for this situation. It’s a capacitor built into a relay. Pretty smart idea.

    Hello there,
I have owned a 2016 Sprinter 3500 base Jayco class C motorhome. Tried installed side view cameras and everything went fine, except turn signal wires shown on the video. Found a wire bundle in the behind the left side A pillar trim that has 4 wires as directed, but parking light signal was working and none of the other wires coming out live signal. Anyone have a idea? I found reverse signal wire at the radio compartment, and still needed turn signal wires. Thanks in advance and stay safe.

Do the mirror cameras need to be powered up all the time when the car is on to work? I know the unit has a delay to keep the input from flashing, but I dont think I can wire to the camera to the same source, since then the camera itself would be powering on and off with the power to the turn signal.

    • @URBANENGINEER
      @URBANENGINEER Před 4 lety

This is really late, but yes, you would need constant power supplied to your cameras. My thought is finding the turn signal relay (if the car has one) and tapping power off of the POWER portion, not the output (12v 0.5 sec, 0v 0.5 sec per cycle for example). If you power off the blinker, you will get a blinking view :).

Hello, after a saw this video. I did the exact same set up on my promaster van (same items on link).
    Really happy with the outcome.
I do have a troubleshooting issue. The video feed wont come up on mirror, when i signal. I have to manually input the camera feed on the mirror. Did i missed something?? Thanks

I own an 2003 honda civic hybrid and i replace radio for after market radio dvd player Pioneer 1500 ...i installed back up camera and i want to install blind spot camera on the right side ....can that litle box trigger view can be used on my after market radio??

    • @twoguysinavan9345
      @twoguysinavan9345  Před 5 lety +1

William Chamorro that box works with any radio that has a backup camera connection. Basically, what it does is send the signal from each camera to the backup-camera input. So yes, I’m 99% certain it will work, as it isn’t radio dependent

Did you get sorted @@diycolombianitoloco9375? The reason I ask is that I have just bought a "360 Birds Eye car camera" system for £79 so I suppose about $100 and it gives a top view from 4 cameras and a box of tricks.

Two Guys In a Van it goes off priority. I believe rear view camera has top priority. Then left turn, then right. Front is on its own list when you hit the switch.
