I think that balance you’ve achieved with the sanding/not sanding argument is solid. I’m not a collector and really just enjoy watching someone enjoy their hobby, but I appreciate both sides of that coin. I like sanded and unsanded depending on the cars rarity and value
I did my first full customization today - strip paint, take apart, modify and repaint. Thanks for inspiring me. It was fun and I'm sure I'll keep at it.

@@medes5597 Thanks for asking. Hot Wheels '68 El Camino (1999) the one with the wing and over-sized engine in the bed. I removed the wing, engine and exhaust because I thought it looked better without all that. Painted it a traditional Chevy blue. I still need to finish the bed and paint details like the tail lights. It's a good casting of an old El Camino so it looks OK now.
Inthe Lionsden nice man! I have 2 of those, a copper looking one and a white one. The engine fell out of the white one but I know I have it somewhere. I also have a matchbox version of the El Camino as well, copper-ish gold-ish, slightly bigger and lower too (all unmodified).
I dunno how I feel about the sand/not-sand question. This restoration is fine. It looks great. It was very pleasing to watch. That said, there's a bit more drama when we get to see a car with pitting come out smooth and sleek and glossy and amazing. So, I'm on the fence. You do these things for you, so what you want is going to be the best. Don't sweat it. Love the channel and love the work and attention you put in as a collector.
I'm not a collector even tho I have spent thousands on red lines and have over 3,000 HW's in my collection and with that said I really enjoy ALL of your videos. I'm waiting for you to find one of the HW's that I had as a child back in the 70's that I either smashed with a hammer or filled with bottle rockets and watch you perform your magic on it. Thanks for your videos and for saving history.

Don't pay 'em any mind, just keep doing what you do. This one, just like all the others, came out great and more importantly, to YOUR liking. You don't have to be a collector to appreciate these miniature pieces of history. Restore or not to restore, it's totally up to you and what you choose to do with them. It’s great learning new things from you about this hobby and seeing your passion for this, it helps to renew my passion for my hobbies. I think you’re doing a great job. I was a collector as a child. Now I just have stuff that I bought when I was a child. I have many of the matchbox and hot wheels that are rare. I am learning from you. Keep up the good work.

I use red 3M 7447 scouring pads for sanding and pit removal. Then I polish by hand with Mother's wheel polish. The pits on your car are too visible. I would have removed them. Always love your videos. Glad you are back!
I'm a collector, but at the same time I love when the car gets aesthetically improved as best as possible. So, both ways will make me happy. When I watch these videos, I'm mostly expecting to see an improved version of the original car looks. But if I know from the beginning that you intend to keep the car as close as possible to its original form, then that's the result I'll be expecting. It's just a matter of being flexible and able to appreciate both. P.S.: My 6 year old son loves your work. Now he even wants to start restoring cars, himself. He's the one who showed me your videos. And now I'm also a fan. We're gonna start getting the tools needed for the job (not all of them, because some of the stuff you use probably must be expensive).
Hey Man, I absolutely love the content and the fact that you always take into the viewers consideration about the cars. I also l love that you explain put your reasons but honestly it just isnt always needed in my opinion. These are your cars and it is your hobby there for your rules and your decision is only ever needed. So I want to say thank you for videos you supply, and the fact that you turn something into a masterpiece when you are finished.

I love that you chose to make the car blue, my dad's first car was a dark blue 77 Maverick 2 door with an inline 6 that he loved to rip around in. I almost had the ability to buy a 74 (I actually had no clue it was for sale) but by the time I had the money the car was sold but I was able to meet the owner and was happy to see he was nice guy and his girlfriend was very friendly. I almost bought a dark blue 4 door but I when I found my AMC Matador wagon I chose her instead. Also in regards to sanding (and yes I know this video is a bit old now) but I think what makes you happy is what's best but it seems you found a good balance on Original and Restored if you get what I mean.
I'm not a collector, but I really prefer the aesthetic of the original, unsanded look, mostly I think because these are the cars I had as a kid. Keep up the fantastic work 👍👍
Welcome back! As I've said on other resto channels...we come here to see your take on restoring/customizing cars. Be true to your vision, not ours. That being said, I love your philosophy of trying not to destroy thhe truly historic cars. As a child of the 70s I owned and played with every redline and most superfast that youve featured here and it really takes me back when I see you restore these to their near original state. Even when you go really custom on one of these I know youve got a few near mint of the same model in your collection so it's all good. Thanks for your vids, it's an honor to watch one of the grandaddies of the resto channels!

I personally would have sanded and polished that one but it still looks great. Besides it’s your car and you are the one that has to figure out what you want to do. As long as your happy with it who cares. Love the channel.
Take your time - to paraphrase Henchman 21 from the Venture Brothers, "You do quality work. It takes time for the quality." Your work remains a superb example of how video, audio and judicious editing can create a wonderful video. At no point does it seem to lag or slow.
Great car and awesome work as always. The collector needs to remember that every car that is "restored to perfection" and not "factory" makes all his cars worth more. 😊
I love clean and sanded version of restored car...It looks new... I stopped collecting after 6 grade because of money issue... I still have 20 that I love the most and gave away the rest to my nephew...
It would be kinda cool to see two of the same cars restored side by side, one completely polished and one still pitted up. Maybe like a super episode. 😁👍

Personally, I like the not-sanded look -- it feels like it's not "over-restoring" the car (to take a term from full-size-car restorations), but more of a rejuvenation. In general, I'd say do it to please yourself first, because that way you're not losing your reason for wanting to do it in the first place. And, after that, some variety can be good, but sanding doesn't have to be the way to get it.
Glad you are back. I was starting to think you had been kidnapped. As far as sand or don't sand. I say do what makes you happy and fits your style. In the end you are the one displaying them.

To me each video is great and you’re like the Bob Ross of toy car restoration. As long as you make videos where you narrate what’s happening I’m going to watch.

I am really looking forward to a video exploring the "Sand or No Sand?" debate. As part of my tour guide work, I daily discuss the Statue of Liberty. Her massive restoration 1984-86 sparked passionate debates between Preservationists (No changes!) & Restorationist (Nothing sacred!). The guiding principles must be "Artist's Intention" and "Surviving Exhibition (If it disintegrates soon after the effort, Why bother [Crumblers, anyone?] ) Maybe that's the way to frame the debate for the video. That you're willing to ask the question speaks to your integrity. Do remember that those screaming loudest at you probably have a financial interest in their collections at risk. And if you restore an original to the point experts struggle to tell them apart, even if you don't represent the car you sell as "original" the unscrupulous buyer who purchased the car from you may falsely claim it is when they sell it. If it becomes known it's your work, then your reputation can be falsely and unfairly tarnished. In the end, however, the
Sorry...In the end, however, unlike the Statue of Liberty, these are toys. They're meant to be more cherished and played with than world changing statements of art (even if you could argue they are!) As I always say, just have fun with your toys (and your family!)
Love your work as always, as a fellow collector I have limited income so for me finding rough and beaten redlines to restore into my collection is the perfect solution. I always enjoy seeing how you do different things to achieve a great result on your cars. Look forward to the next video thankyou as always for great content
I am not a toy collector, but I have restored over four cars and over five motorcycles. And I've found most people love originality & shinny stuff. So, I guess it comes down to personal taste.
glad tyo see you are back again. I like the color, and I am waiting to see what it looks like with the stripe and the wing. I do prefer the cars when the pitting is removed, but I can imagine that the sanding can also remove some of the details.
i am a collector myself and i really enjoy these videos. The only time when restoring a redline is ruining it is when the car doesn't need to be restored in the first place
I have missed many of your videos, but I will enjoy catching up. Great job as I remember! Try superglue send baking soda, it's extremely strong and quick. Marty Matchbox Makeovers tip.
My favorite of your videos to watch are the ones where you really get into cleaning up the car beyond restoration (e.g. your Husky video). Knock off all the flashing, deepen the panel lines, hit it with the elecro-polisher, zinc plate it two or three times, and give it a kickass paint job. I understand not wanting to do that with rare Redlines. Fortunately there are plenty of beaters out there.
My thoughts might be controversial, but I suggest you do whatever you want, it's your hobby and your channel. Someone who is so bent out of shape about whether or not to sand a toy car will never be pleased what you do. I am going to assume that I represent the silent majority in that we enjoy your channel no matter what you do. I prefer restores over a custom "mad Max" type of project, but I still enjoy it none the less. Thanks.

Just found a Hong Kong Mighty Maverick in my kids box of Hot Wheels! It is mine now! Will need a full restoration as it has had lots of love.

Personally, I like the not-sanded look -- it feels like it's not "over-restoring" the car (to take a term from full-size-car restorations), but more of a rejuvenation. In general, I'd say do it to please yourself first, because that way you're not losing your reason for wanting to do it in the first place. And, after that, some variety can be good, but sanding doesn't have to be the way to get it.
Glad you are back. I was starting to think you had been kidnapped. As far as sand or don't sand. I say do what makes you happy and fits your style. In the end you are the one displaying them.

Love your videos and to be honest I don’t really care one way or another if you sand or not. To me each video is great and you’re like the Bob Ross of toy car restoration. As long as you make videos where you narrate what’s happening I’m going to watch.

I am really looking forward to a video exploring the "Sand or No Sand?" debate. As part of my tour guide work, I daily discuss the Statue of Liberty. Her massive restoration 1984-86 sparked passionate debates between Preservationists (No changes!) & Restorationist (Nothing sacred!). The guiding principles must be "Artist's Intention" and "Surviving Exhibition (If it disintegrates soon after the effort, Why bother [Crumblers, anyone?] ) Maybe that's the way to frame the debate for the video. That you're willing to ask the question speaks to your integrity. Do remember that those screaming loudest at you probably have a financial interest in their collections at risk. And if you restore an original to the point experts struggle to tell them apart, even if you don't represent the car you sell as "original" the unscrupulous buyer who purchased the car from you may falsely claim it is when they sell it. If it becomes known it's your work, then your reputation can be falsely and unfairly tarnished. In the end, however, the
Sorry...In the end, however, unlike the Statue of Liberty, these are toys. They're meant to be more cherished and played with than world changing statements of art (even if you could argue they are!)

Love your work as always, as a fellow collector I have limited income so for me finding rough and beaten redlines to restore into my collection is the perfect solution. I always enjoy seeing how you do different things to achieve a great result on your cars. Look forward to the next video thankyou as always for great content
I am not a toy collector, but I have restored over four cars and over five motorcycles. And I've found most people love originality & shinny stuff.
So, I guess it comes down to personal taste.

glad tyo see you are back again. I like the color, and I am waiting to see what it looks like with the stripe and the wing. I do prefer the cars when the pitting is removed, but I can imagine that the sanding can also remove some of the details.

i am a collector myself and i really enjoy these videos. The only time when restoring a redline is ruining it is when the car doesn't need to be restored in the first place
I have missed many of your videos, but I will enjoy catching up. Great job as I remember! Try superglue send baking soda, it's extremely strong and quick. Marty Matchbox Makeovers tip.
My favorite of your videos to watch are the ones where you really get into cleaning up the car beyond restoration (e.g. your Husky video). Knock off all the flashing, deepen the panel lines, hit it with the elecro-polisher, zinc plate it two or three times, and give it a kickass paint job.
I understand not wanting to do that with rare Redlines. Fortunately there are plenty of beaters out there.
My thoughts might be controversial, but I suggest you do whatever you want, it's your hobby and your channel. Someone who is so bent out of shape about whether or not to sand a toy car will never be pleased what you do. I am going to assume that I represent the silent majority in that we enjoy your channel no matter what you do. I prefer restores over a custom "mad Max" type of project, but I still enjoy it none the less. Thanks.
