Erin's Audio Corner is the best source for speaker measurements. The fact that he also includes distortion and compression measurements at various SPLs gives you a much better idea of what you're getting.

I'm thrilled with the performance of my new pair of SB-1000 Pro's. They rock the house in my 11'x13' room. I also recommend the isolation feet that SVS sells for $50 a set. My house has old, thin wooden floors on a pier and beam foundation, and the bass stays nice and clean. They go low enough for all music I've tried, including Pop and Hip-Hop. Really increased the (perceived) scale of my system. Without subs it was like an intimate venue. With the subs it's like a full on stadium concert! I listen LOUD as well... 105db peaks (app measured), and these subs never sound stressed. Finally, I can't stress enough how great it is to control the subs with the SVS blue tooth control app. Adjustments on the fly are easy!
Still loving the setup? I just got mine and have a similar room config.
I have two SVS Ultra 13 subs and just did the amplifier upgrade kit and love it especially with the app! No more going behind the the sub to mess with that little control knob in the dark. Now l just have to download REW software to dial

I have the pb2000 pro and even regular TV commercials sound great best subwoofer I've ever had.
To me from a cooling aspect, ported is always best. All of the best that has performed year after year for me is ported. Requires less power and is better for the long run. Cooling is my opinion and that’s all I’m gonna say. Love all audio and all ways it works! So awesome!

I knew I felt my ears burning for some reason... :) Seriously, thanks for the mention, Erin. Everyone who measures speakers and isn't you or Amir is seriously jealous of that Klippel rig, because we know exactly how much time and labor is involved in taking useful loudspeaker measurements.
However, to clarify a little bit, my multisub setup is based more on concepts by Dr. Earl Geddes than Harman. The two approaches emerged in public at roughly the same time. To oversimplify the differences to compare/contrast: the Welti/Devantier ("Harman") approach involves using symmetrical pairs of subs at specific locations, ideally 4 at the mid-walls or in the corners (SFM relaxed the placement constraints I believe.). The goal is minimization of mean spatial variation ("MSV"), so the bass sounds as similar as practicable everywhere in the listening area. The Geddes approach is to use ideally three or more subs, place one in a corner near the mains, one far away from that, and a third far away from both, and sequentially fold the "far away" subs into the system. The goal is to randomize room mode excitation, and thereby both smooth and flatten the response. Earl's original approach started with the mains, but that is incompatible with current room correction software. Earl does (or did) recommend a subwoofer be placed above the room centerline. I have done that in the past with good results. That is not, however, aesthetically tenable in our current home. Maybe next time.
Also, to go to two other area of discussion, I agree JL Audio's E-Subs are impressive, even to this unrepentant subwoofer snob who likes his sub drivers to have neo-driven underhung motors with full copper sleeves, and inductance more commonly seen in tweeters. We deploy a JL E-110 in a secondary system with the criminally overlooked and underrated Technics flat coax bookshelf speakers. It puts out a lot of loud, clean bass on an absolute basis, from quite a small cabinet, and has (barely) just enough top end extension to allow for smooth integration with the mains. As for subwoofer plate amp Bluetooth or whatever control apps generally, I do not consider them a value add. Why add the latency when a system will likely employ global room correction, and hopefully multiple subwoofers as well?
Thanks for the clarification, Jay! And, yes, I definitely know all about the pains of getting good data without the NFS. So glad I have this thing now. My body couldn’t survive another round of tower speaker testing. Neither could my heart. Quite stressful at times. LOL

I bought a pair of PB-2000 Pro back in September and I’m not disappointed with them by any means. Had the PB-1000 Pro been around then, I may just have considered them given their price point. As far as plate amps are concerned, it is what it is. Components fail overtime. It’s inevitable in most cases. I just hope my SVS sub amps outlast how long one of my Klipsch sub amps did, which was hardly three years.
SVS will be INCREASING their prices this October 4th from roughly $40-$400 depending on the item!! If you are thinking about upgrading to their brand, now is the time to do so. I already placed my order :)
I was really lucky my sub died two weeks before the price bump. I'm very pleased with my PB 1000 Pro.

2 - 2.5" ports have an overall surface area of 9.8"sq while a single 3.5" port has an area of 9.6"sq so it's only a marginal increase in port area for a 43% increase in cone area. Hopefully port chuff isn't an issue with the update version. Looking forward to see what James finds in his review.

I have two SVS PB12plus subs. I wonder if adding two more of these 1000 Pro's would work well with the PB12's. I can put one in each corner.
On the new SVS subwoofer 1000 Pro I was wondering yes the 2000 series would it make more sense to get the 1000 or if that's not powerful enough you get the 3000 from SVS for most people I think the 1000 would serve me just right cuz my living room is in between small and medium-sized. I had 4 Advents back in the 70s and heard Heresys at a club. Let me tell you, I was disappointed after hearing KHorns and my own setup. They were awful - more like PA speakers than hifi. I also know that there is nothing that can be done to fix that speaker enough to make it sound right.

Thanks. The SR8015 can do a full 4Vrms output clean so just get any amp with a gain of at least 26dB and you should be fine.

If your amp has variable input sensitivity, then the lower sensitivity has worse performance (the amp applies more gain because it’s lower in level, adding more noise/distortion).
So, the higher input sensitivity is the better performing setting, and since the Marantz has no trouble outputting 1.4Vrms, go with that.

The variable phase adjustment is not an actual phase adjustment, it is a delay adjustment. PowerSoundAudio subs even use millisecond values instead of phase angles for their knobs. Rythmik’s website has an article on it stating the same.
The polarity adjustment (0/180) is a polarity adjustment as you can they can simply swap the + & - connection to inverse the polarity.
Do you know that the SVS is pure signal delay? Or is it an all pass filter? There are many DSPs that use a second order APF. Even in car audio. 😉

Sub manual:
Phase Control
This control delays the signal being processed through the amplifier. For connection to an A/V receiver, it should be set to 0 degrees. For 2-channel applications, it should be adjusted to obtain the most coherent and stable soundstage and transition between the loudspeakers and the subwoofer.
App manual:
Phase Adjustment
Solves sound wave cancellation issues at specific frequencies and perfectly aligns the arrival of output from speakers and subwoofers to your listening position. Normally set to 0° if the subwoofer is near the main speakers. Adjusting Phase shifts timing of the subwoofer output to align with the main speakers or additional subwoofers.
@@homeboi808 To be clear, phase can be adjusted without altering the time of arrival (IR time). An all pass filter shifts the time at specific frequencies. So, the statements could be interpreted either way. You may be right; the variable phase may just be a rebadged time delay. But I can tell you with certainty that pro audio (Rane, Behringer, Lake) and car audio DSPs (Helix, Gladen) use variable phase as a *separate* tool from their also-included time delay settings. They are, indeed, not the same. Thus, I take it at face value that "phase" literally means phase and not time. But I don't know for sure and the text from their manual doesn't make it any more clear. One would have to explicitly verify with SVS just what their variable phase does. I'll try to test this if I get a chance to clear up the confusion.

@@ErinsAudioCorner Yes, I know it is achievable with filters to only adjust the phase at the crossover region. In fact, when I looked up a JL Audio sub, they actually stated it only affects the crossover region, so that surprised me.
However, the SVS manual states not to use it if you have an AVR, as an AVR has its own time delay capabilities.
That JL Audio sub is the only home use sub I have seen where it stated that, to my knowledge every other major sub company simply uses a time delay (well, except for REL, as they don’t even have phase adjustment, even on their flagships 🙃).
@@homeboi808 noted. I wish they weren't labeled in the way they are. As someone who comes from the side where "variable phase" means just that, I expect to get that. Seems a shame that the home audio market doesn't have this feature yet (widespread, at least).
For movies ported all day. But I use them for music only would you say sealed for these subs? These are being added to a dual portable self powered speakers. No receiver so the built in DSP is needed.
I just sent back an SB1000 sub as I was hearing the rumble noise floor which SVS has said is normal. I wonder if that has been solved with the Pro line? Can anybody confirm?

I mean you could buy 2 pb1k pros for the exact same price as one spl150 so not really sure how that's a fair comparison. Two of any decent subwoofer would be better even if you're getting slightly less output overall. As for how that spl150 performs there's no CEA2010 data for either but there is some for the SPL120 and the R-115SW and the PB1000 (not pro) and the pb1000 has more output under 40hz than the spl120 but less than the r115sw which is about 3-5db louder although at around 20-25hz they are only about 1db off from each other. So knowing that the PB1kpro is decently better in low end output than the non pro model I'd wager to bet in 40hz and below the pb1kpro would have equal or better numbers. A more fair comparison would be the PB2000 Pro and that would easily outpace the SPL150 for a couple hundred cheaper.
Is it worthwhile getting two of the SB1000Pro for the back wall to add to my existing twin SB3000s that are placed in the front?

I was in the same dilemma but hsu vtf-2 aren’t even in stock and the pb-1000 pro arrives today so that was a deal breaker for me. I want to still try the hsu. Hopefully the SVS app doesn’t trap me 🥲
@@foureyes5498 Yeah the app is cool, but if the HSU has better sound quality then I can go without it, unless if the app improves the sound quality (over the HSU). Also, I hear that D amps last longer than BASH (hybrid amp), that's one thing I've considered regarding these 2 subs. Please update on how you liked the PB1000 pro when you get it.

@@imagineme69 the pb-1000 pro is awesome! Doing all the adjustments from your listening position is effortless via the app. I customized the music and movie presets to just change with a quick tap. It’s a great sub and doesn’t have a power indicator on the front anymore so it can be stealthy. For the money I’d highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed
At 42:00, they are discussion how the lack of distortion can be dangerous for hearing. I can testify. I got a pair of planar magnetic headphone from OPPO PM-2 and was listening at high level without noticing. couple of hours later, I put the headphones down and could hear a high pitch buzzing sound for an entire week. I was so worried that it would be permanent. I'm scared to use these headphones now! It's a shame because they sound best at high volume...

With a time delay you get a linear phase, which may or may not be enough, depending on how wide a frequency range you want a certain phase change. At low frequencies it does not really make sense to talk about time delay, as everything is dictated by the modal response, so I would expect that effects coming from a time delay are not related any actual distances but instead to the phase change.
At $600 this seems like a steal. Would 2 of these be better than a single PB-3000, or even 4x PB-1000 Pro vs 2x PB-3000 for ultimate sub placement? That's double the amount of subs for $400 less!

I'm about to pull the trigger on the PB-1000 Pro (really want 2 but I don't need it). My room has a ~85hz room gain as Audyssey shows my JBL Studio 590s having a massive 20db spike and similar with the 580s in the rear. Using the included port plugs it cut the spike in half to 10&9db spikes. Audyssey kills the sound quality so I don't use it, and so I'm debating getting basstraps to tone down that room spike. Room is 20'6" x 17'4" but the right wall has an opening for the kitchen.
1. 1x PB-1000 Pro + basstraps.
2. 1x PB-1000 Pro + SVS EQ App + forget basstraps, just let the room have a bump for the mains/rears.
3. 2x ~$300 subs in "stereo" positioning between 590s or 1 left 1 rear right + basstraps.
4. 3x $190 JBL Studio 550P subs in "stereo" positioning and one between the rear 580s + basstraps. (but I read they aren't very good and are rated for 27hz).
Bass traps to treat large peaks at ~80Hz would need to be huuuggge , like 10"+ thick and in multiples throughout the room. Either get a second sub and a minidsp umik-1 and REW to smooth the response or a minidsp 2x4HD and EQ the response
@@jamiet74 I wasn't sure what size they would have to be but I was hoping a triangle trap around 7-8ft tall in each corner might help, or something smaller, guess not :( Seems like I'll have to play around with manual EQ on the Marantz and see if sucks the life away still.

Anything over a 12 driver requires ALOT MORE DELAY . Just adding that in there Folks! That much mass is very delayed though hard hitting.
Look at measurements online. Data-bass has measured many subs, the measurements for the larger Rythmik subs still show they have low group delay.
It really is sub/brand specific as to how well they perform in this metric.
I’d like to see an expose about why manufacturers have moved away from acoustic suspension loudspeakers. We have adequate power, so it isn’t that. Also, ported speakers have gotten less and less efficient, so that advantage has diminished.

Yes, usually most are able to.
One thing you're overlooking in your SVS reviews is the noisy sledge amps.
This new SVS sub seems like it's gonna be really good but I'm wondering should I purchase two SVS PB 1000 Pros or two Monolith 10's?
I am sure both of them are good, but honestly I just hate looking at the sub with 2 or 3 holes in front of it, it's too ugly to me.
So I decided to buy the JTR RS1, I order it last January and will receive it sometime in May.

Lastly the latest sb1000 pro seems to have a speaker line level input which the sb2000 pro doesn’t have. Does it mean sb1000 pro connected at the line level could have faster response than the 2000 pro?

I'm still confused and really would like to understand why such a small sub would be made with the design philosophy based on a high QTS driver in a very high QTC designed cabinet? The sub is boomier than the rattle pack I made in my youth without any calculations in the back of my 1984 Mitshubishi Sigma with no springs. Of course I am no an expert but I believe this is due to provide the most perceived bass for the cheapest price. I thought subwoofers goal was to start and stop on a dime or at least to an extent. My calculation has it around that the sub is around 1.1 or perhaps more QTC. Why isn't this variable considered during subwoofer testing? I would love to be enlightened regarding this.

For whatever reason, I've never cared for the SQ of a JL subwoofer. They have a particular sound to my ears that just isn't right. Well made though. I can tell I didn't get to listen to this all at once as this is my third comment...
In car audio it's a general rule, don't mount your amp to your sub box. Vibration is just not good. Most plate amplifiers don't seem to have very good heat sinks if the appear to truly have one at all. I assume they run warmer than is great for lifespan. Probably 85c capacitors of mediocre quality. They're going to fail. My thoughts seem to agree with what was said here anyway.

Yes. That is why frequency response linearity isn’t super important for a sub. Bass extension and max SPL (under allowed distortion) is what matters most.
So Klipsch is a big no no?
I like horns, JBL in particular, but Klipsch just doesn't sound good. Just, loud.

For far too long subwoofers were overpriced. SVS has kicked that barricade down and allows real changes from your listening position. maybe it is time for lots of companies to be scared. almost bought a REL, that would have been a mistake making adjustments upside down against the wall in the corner.
Nor worth the money in my country. Price tag here: 30-40k a piece
