  • I think I used every justification known to excuse my drinking alone. So what happens when you want to stop drinking alone?
Annie Grace, author of This Naked Mind is answering reader's questions live. Today she answers, How do I stop drinking alone at home?
The premise of This Naked Mind is that while you consciously want to make a change in your life (like to stop drinking alone) your far more powerful and controlling subconscious mind- which again is responsible for your desires - has not gotten that memo.
It’s taken years for you to form these deeply ingrained beliefs that alcohol is vital to unwinding and relaxation. It takes specific and conscious effort to get to the bottom of why exactly you believe that. Once you do you can re-wire your thinking to where you no longer have this conflict between what you want to do (stop drinking alone) and what you want to do (have a drink).
In my book, I use a specific technique called Liminal Thinking and Liminal points that allow you to uncover all of your subconscious conditioning and regain harmony between your conscious and subconscious desire around alcohol.
Not everyone who goes through the process can completely stop drinking alone, but most do come to a place of peace in their relationship with alcohol - which for many, like myself, means that drinking loses its luster and is no longer desirable - so I just don't drink at all.
It's important to work through all of your beliefs and experiences in order to really be able to stop drinking alone and start enjoying life for what it is. I can promise you that once you do you'll experience a freedom and happiness that you never realized was possible.

Hi Annie, love all you do. I was a late night closet drinker. Because of the shame you hide it. You don’t want people to know you have a problem. Again sober 15 years now. It’s late night now as I write this. Instead of drinking, I’m writing this to tell people you can stop drinking if it’s an issue.

It is a good exclusive guide for learning how to stop drinking minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my best friend Jordan at last got excellent success with it.

Yes - its called "tonglen" and you can heal by doing it. Breathe in to your spiritual heart - pain suffering etc and breath out healing We all breathe the same air just as all fish breathe the same water in the ocean. Your heart is limitless. You can breathe in the whole worlds suffering and still have room for more.

Annie, hi! I just finished listening your book, it is great! And I decided to stop drinking.
I have a question: can it be that my subconscious minds won't get the ideas from the book deeply inside itself because I listened to the English version? English is a second language to me. Maybe I should read (or listen) the Russian version for my subconscious minds to absorb all the ideas? Thanks, Yerlan

I am here for you. I am 60 and stopped alcohol when I was 25 cold turkey. Havent had a drop since. If I can do it , anybody can do it. I am nothing special - just an alcoholic. You are stronger than you think. You can dump the desire for alcohol on me. Spiritually, I will take the desire you have, into my heart and return it to you in the form of healing, love and light. I know it sounds wierd but what I am talking about is something called tonglen and it heals. Imagine your favourite drink is petrol - you wouldnt drink it because it will kill you. Pretend for 6 months Your subconcious mind doesnt know the differnce between the truth and a lie, Thats what I did. It works - its all in your mind Praying for you - you can do it Bill
