Here is an easy and more automated way to stop Corsiar's iCUE software used on this Legion 7 and the 7i laptops (as well as many older Legion models, such as the Y740, etc), from massively draining your battery, all while retaining the ability to have custom RGB static profiles. iCUE v3 is preferred as outlined below, unless you have the stuck RGB light Jarrod laid out in the video... then iCUE v4 must be used to solve this issue.
Install iCUE v3 or v4 and run it to create your preferred RGB setups with static colors for any or all zones (static color profiles only as custom animated RGB profiles will halt when iCUE is stopped). You'd then make sure your favourite customized RGB profile is the first in the iCUE profile list, as that'll be the one that gets activated upon iCUE startup. From there you can create a batch file like below, create a shortcut to it ("iCUE Battery Saver" for example), customize that shortcut via its properties (right click), add a shortcut key combo (such as setting it to CTRL-ALT-Z, etc), set it to run minimized and, optionally, set it to run in Administrator mode. Finally, move or copy the customized shortcut in to your Start Menu's Programs folder (%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs).
From then on, you could either click to run this from your start menu via its shortcut or tap the keyboard combo you created... from anywhere in Windows (except with full-screen apps or games activated). Doing this will auto-kill the running iCUE v3 or v4 process *and* its services while leaving the loaded RGB profile activated, at least, if you are using iCUE v3 (stays activated until reboot or hibernation). If you are using iCUE v4, it'll revert your RGB setup to the stock firmware "Rainbow", but at least iCUE won't kill your battery or CPU anymore. If running v4, I'd run this batch via its shortcut every time you unplug, then run iCUE again, if desired, once you plug back in to AC (you could even modify iCUE's own shortcut to add a separate key combo, say CTRL-ALT-C, to allow quick access to it from anywhere in Windows). As stated above, using v3 of iCUE is preferred as your custom, static RGB lighting will remain active even when iCUE and it's services are terminated (until reboot or hibernation). If your Legion 7 or 7i doesn't have any stuck pixels while running iCUE v3, using it instead of v4 would be the best option.
Here's a simple icue_killer.bat file one might create:
    @echo off
    echo.
:: Terminate the iCUE 3 or 4 process if running
    echo Shutting down Corsair iCUE:
    taskkill /IM "iCUE.EXE" /F
    echo.
    echo.
:: Stop the three Corsair v3 services (and one more with v4) if running
:: - the first process requires admin mode to stop, the other three do not
:: - the last process is the one that consumes the most battery
:: - you can get away with not running this in admin mode if desired
echo Stopping the Corsair Gaming Audio Configuration Service:
net stop "Corsair Gaming Audio Configuration Service" /y
    echo.
echo Stopping the Corsiar LLA Service:
net stop "Corsair LLA Service" /y
    echo.
echo Stopping the Corsair MSI Plugin Service:
net stop "Corsair MSI Plugin Service" /y
    echo.
echo Stopping the main Corsair Service:
    net stop "Corsair Service" /y
One could use Windows task scheduler to automate this by running these commands when AC power was unplugged, then starting iCUE back up whenever AC power was restored... there are lots of other ways this could be changed and customized but this simple example works fine.
Takeaway: this may not be elegant, but it at least fixes this problem until Corsair gets off its ass and re-writes their terrible software (after all these years!). I wish Lenovo would sever their Corsair relationship once and for all and code RGB control directly in to Vantage, but alas. With this batch and shortcut, you can still have iCUE installed to take advantage of all the RGB goodness on these beautiful machines (again, static color profiles only as custom animated RGB profiles will halt when iCUE is stopped). A simple and easily accessible keyboard kepress will stop iCUE from destroying your battery life and even avoid stuttering, etc in Windows for some non-gaming tasks. When you want iCUE back, just run it again.
    Best to you all.

Sir, you seem to know a LOT about this laptop. May I ask you a question? I'm familiarizing myself with the specs and I'm not very good at it and as a woman, I have a lot of better things I'd like to be doing.
I found on the Lenovo site that they have the Legion 7 in the 16gb, RTX 3060, 512mb storage version for $1440, but it takes *4 months to ship!* I can't wait that long. I can't find the Legion 7 RTX 3060 anywhere else that will ship now. I found the 7 Slim but listened to reviews that made me think the Slim is not the better option. So I continued hunting for the 7 and found it on Amazon in the RTX 2060 (instead of 3060 version) for $1600. It seems like since 2060 is a lower number, this must be an earlier version. Would I be correct? I am not used to laptops but let's say that you personally, as an expert in this stuff, were playing on a 2060 vs a 3060. Would you think you'd notice much difference? I will be using it for WordPress website design (often doing live edits) and also I'd like to buy some games to play with my nephews (RDR) and also use it for video editing. Would you suggest I get the 2060 and think I won't know much difference, or wait to find the 3060, knowing I'd see a considerable difference? (I want this machine to last a long time and I'm very fussy with wanting it to look amazing if I'm gaming.)
Any help you could offer would be so great. I'm a novice at all of this and only know the very basics. Thank you so much for any assistance you might be able to offer. I'd like to get it ordered soon and if I have to go out and get one, I'm stuck with the Legion 7 Slim which I heard has drawbacks (but at least I could get it sooner and would like to use it for work.)

      @Fanta.Inc. Před 2 lety +2

@@nightowls7324 as a absolutely non expert I can tell you that 3060 will be significant difference in games (considering 2060 somehow cost more than 3060) you should definitely seek to find 3060 version preferably with a screen of at least 300 nits peak brightness, as the 250nits (120hz) really sucks in comparison with an at least 144Hz.

I'm loving your reviews. You're actually helping me to make a choice based on real life performance and numbers. Keep it up! Some reviewers will just name whatever the laptops has, but you put them to test. You're concern about performance and not just, for example "This laptop is the worst because it doesn't have a webcam" and make that the top priority, while most laptops have shitty webcams, and it's better not to pay for that on the laptop, and buy one camera apart. I was about to get a asus tuf dash f15. But now im thinking on going for a legion. I'm not the biggest lenovo fan, but the legion.. I think it's totally worth the money

I'm from China, and I got my Legion 7 two weeks ago. One big problem is that when fans are full powered, they make high frequency noises like whistle. Same issue happened on many customers in China. The IC inductive whistle problem on Legion 5 pro's mortherboard is even more universal. I don't know whether foreign customers will suffer from the same problems.

To viewers who are watching, and as well legion 7 owners. You can simply uninstall the Corsair iCUE software, you don't need it to change the lighting effects nor disable the lights. Why hasn't Lenovo fixed the Corsair battery drain issue on the new Legion 7? This continues to be an issue on the previous version and there hasn't been anything released to fix it. The owner was left to figure out how to disable it! We have two 7i's and we had to completely disable Corsair software or would have little more than an hour of battery life!

      Legion 5 Pro 16" Gen 6 USB-C charging
The manual says this Legion 5 Pro can be charged with a USB-C charger, using the rear USB-C port, as long as the charger/hub outputs more than 20 V, 3.25 A and 20 V, 5 A. This was in the manual of the Lenovo legion 5 pro (6th gen) so I don’t see why the Lenovo legion 7 wouldn’t be able to do the same however I don’t have a definitive answer for you sorry

Word of warning, some legion laptops get a LCD defect that causes discoloration and pixelation on one part of the screen. It is definitely not burn in because it happens merely a few months after regular use and the fact that modern LCD screens are not as susceptible to burn in unless you really try to hold on image for a week straight.
Lenovo will deny your claim by saying that it's customer induced burn in despite the fact that this problem does not resemble burn in.

I'm fine with the default lighting and never adjust the lighting even on my G915. I think there is a way to fix that anyway, as detailed in a comment here. I game left handed, with the keypad, and I'm just happy this laptop has a keypad at all. Most don't. I don't plan on using this laptop on battery much at all.
