This is how edging looks like (jk)
Legion 5 vanilla, where?
With same ram plz
Jarrod, the format of your reviews is top of the art ngl. It's everything in a short timeframe, so much better than what i've seen around.
I agree đ. No bloat or ego/personality trying to compete with content. No annoying, mid-sentence pitch or 'word from our sponsor' either
Does Legion 7 has a display port?
The key feature here for me is definitely the hard camera switch so I can safely and privately view your videos.
We all love Jarrod's video, just no need for anyone to know how much
The scar has no camera - so it's more safe then the legion.

Great video, thanks mate!! I have been taking a closer look at the Scar 15 recently, so this super helpful to have!! :D :D

Thankyou for your Hardwork and awesome Laptop review Jarrod
Thank you for this review/side by side comparison... i am currently looking for a gaming laptop and i had already narrowed it down to either Lenovo Legion 7 or asus scar 15 :)
Hey Jarrod again great work!, will there be an Intel 11gen Legion vs Ryzen Legion comparison btw
Thanks for including a blurb for Linux compatibility!! Great comparison!
Great overview, thank you.
Thanks for including GNU/Linux compatibility! It is one of the key things in a laptop and most reviewers don't check it!
Exactly.
Jarrod, because of your amazing review of the lenovo legion 7, I got it đ days ago. And I must say your review was on point! Thanks good sir!
Hii! Would you mind a few questions? I'm looking to buy a legion 7 since my 10 years old laptop is getting old:( but there are no models, do you had to wait / hunt for existences? Or is it a bad sign that there are no models as of right now?
@@alanbasoria5265 I live in the Netherlands and the only model available when I was looking to buy was the rtx 3080 one with 16 gb ram. I actually wanted the rtx 3070 32 gb ram model but after waiting for over 2 months, my patience ran out. So i just bought the 3080 16 gb. Depending on where you live, the availability of legion 7 models will differ. I suggest if you can, just order the laptop at any big retailer and wait for sometime. If you have a higher budget, get the 3080 models, they have a higher change of being available
You've got me sold and I can't even throw my money yet. Keep up the excellent videos!

Awesome review man đŻđŻ
Great review! I thought about getting ASUS Strix but the huge turn off was the colour gamut that it offered. The laptop was almost perfect until I find out that the colour gamut was only 62.5% unless you pay an extra MYR2k+ ($480 ish) and it was just totally not worth it. I plan to use it for graphics + 3D work and colours are the top of my priority here. I'm eyeing on the Legion 5 Pro rn and the specs I'm looking at is only around $1270 (for the 3060) and $1450 ish (for the 3070 config) which I'm more satisfied about with the price imo
could you give me the link of the lenovo legion 5 pro rtx 3070 please ???
Check at Walmart online
If u go Walmart online it has it for 1400
I am trying to choose between them thank you for the help! + Keep the metal \m/
Just courious what are the prices of both?
@@dax4812 For what I can see, the legion 7 is a bit more expensive than the scar due to its shortage in supply. But if you can get a legion 7 at the retail price it is definitely worth it.

my eyes were already set on the legion 7 from the start... because it has a num-keypad. I seriously need that for work-at-home stuff and when I'm playing my MMOs. PLUS 165w 3080?! FORK YEAH! this is going to be one HELL of an upgrade! :D
Me too it seems like it will be released mid-June Iâve been waiting for so long
the Legion 7 is my choice too, no doubt it
Well it cost 3k so yeah better be one hell of an upgrade
I just watch these vids with the knowledge I can't get them. Damn the legion looking fine! đđ©
The Battle between the two 2021 Ryzen Gaming Laptops Titans we were all waiting for. Big up !
Hey Jarrod, will you do an Alienware M15 R5 review? This time it actually looks like a good competitor for the price.
The Scar has more RGB, so obviously the Scar is faster
I love ASUS after having my Zephyrus g15 but i saw this title and had to watch. I agree with your personal choice for the Lenovo, despite HEAVILY looing into the scar series.
Hi Jarrod. Had you even ran a raid0 on these laptops?
I have a ROG G17 2021, and would like to have 2x ssds in raid0, I had seen an video showing no performance gain, according to him, due to the MB design (that case was a Dell).
I wonder if that limitation goes beyong Dell`s, if you have available for test, I would like to see more, specially in Ryzen 5000's laptops. Thank you very much.
Awesome review đ
Great video, but I have a question. The keyboard on the scar 15 is the same on scar 17? I mean the keyboard's sound
Yeah its great to be able to turn webcam off and have some privacy while I..uh.. watch your video's. :P Yet another great Jarrods tech video :)
@Azzam no need. My legion 5 2021 has privacy shutter built in.
@@SYmotgang same,
Perfect comparison video! Both these machines are great and at the end of the day, the decision comes down to which features you value more. Availability and when you need the laptop is the next thing to keep in mind, in my case, there is no information about when the Legion 7 will be coming out and the Scar 15 is available to purchase and so I'll be going with that. Great video as always!
i can assure you that the asus wont disappoint you my guy

Iâm wondering if Asus is not applying the liquid metal properly at the factory because I observed high idle temperatures as well in a Zephyrus G15. It would sit over 50C in silent mode while my 8-core Intel-based Dell XPS 17 would be at least 10 degrees cooler under identical conditions.
Hey Jarrod, when are you bringing rtx 3050?
Jarrod, you can tell I've been watching too many of your video's. 10:53 is showing/listing the wrong device. It shows the Legion but lists the Scar. Just a heads up. Thanks for the detailed vids đ
PLEASE DO MORE COMPARISONS !!! đ
Hi jarrod, great review, i got asus scar 15 3080. Do you think asus will release 150w vbios update for 2021 version ? I saw in techpowerup there is asus vbios powerlimit 150w, but not sure if i want to flash it, do you think if the same asus vbios, the port like hdmi and usb c dp still works if i flash it ?
Thanks
If the Scar has more RGB then it should have more framerate right? How does this happen?
The problem is due to the brightness, which is the most important factor along with color cycle speed. It sometimes helps performance to put a military grade flashlight inside the keyboard, the extra light will allow higher fps
@@feedmatrix10 oh I see
It could be because the Scar doesn't have them at the right places. If Asus adds RGB even to the air vents, then it will surely perform better than Legion.
@@MaazAhmed legion got them rgb-cooling power. What's next? Maybe they need RGB screen
Only if you turn red. Obviously Jarrod didn't switch to the red mode and used all colors instead. Those who are colorful are weak.
Excellent, can you do review on new Alienware x17
I plan to if I'm able to get my hands on one.
Hope you can review the MSI GP66 i7-11800H RTX 3070. Bought my Scar 2 RTX 2060 based on your reviews. Thanks!
Do you think that asus will add mux switch to laptops next year? I want to buy g15 or legion 5 pro but cant deside. Iam probably going to buy it some time after christmas. I dont think that There are better mid range laptops than these two. Also i like your videos. You really helped me.
Hey Jarrod, got a quick question.
Is it time I need to upgrade my laptop? The only games I play is overwatch on high/ultra settings and programs such as SPSS and MS Project and millions of chrome tabs and MS Word for never ending essays and reports.
Current set up: Acer nitro 5 (2019 I think)
Intel i7
16gb ram (ram is upgradeable to 32gb if I decide to download more)
500gb SSD primary
1TB SSD secondary (installed myself)
GTX 1660Ti
The fans are getting quick "noisey" at times and temps reach around 50 -60 degrees delicious, even when I'm just writing out essays with 10+ chrome tabs,. When gaming overwatch, my temperature maxes around 80 - 83 degree Celsius, when weather is room temp. I changed the thermal paste about a year ago and I even under volted, which I found the most useful as before I was sitting around 83-90 degrees celcius. I know I've only had the laptop for roughly 2 years but for me I find those temperatures quite high for such tasks and application
Generally it's time to upgrade if what you're using isn't getting you by anymore. That said those specs should still handle those tasks no problem, so probably no need on upgrading. Those temperatures are quite low when under load and not worth worrying about.
Do you have any idea, when will intel version of legion 5 pro be released?
Are Lenovo/Corsair likely to fix the RGB power draw issues in the future with a software update?
I'd like to think yes, but I'm going to say probably not given it's been an issue for a year now.
As much as I want the Legion 7 it has one fatal flaw that I just can't get past..."Out of stock", or "coming soon" depending on where you look.
In your experience, how much time is normal for waiting restock?:( id like to buy the legion 7 to replace my 10 years old laptop, is getting old / slow but man im scared of not being able to buy a legion 7 relatively soon
Hi @Jarrod'sTech! Quick question, I have this exact scar and can't seem to get the battery life you find. Do you know any ways to identify excessive battery draining programs? I have battery bar pro and it's saying my discharge rate when doing basically nothing is kind of high but it's not showing that my dgpu is active.
Is there a dedicated igpu mode?
@@windkiller97 there is and using that the battery drain is still high for me at idle.

Have the top spec strix scar 15 but has a fault with the screen hinge / keyboard clearance and can't get a replacement as there's no stock. Waiting on the Legion 7 to become available in the UK and thinking about a swap, get that missing mux switch!
Are you going to make a review about the asus tuf F15?
Jarrod can you do a laptop tier list based on the wattage of the GPU and their relative performance instead of model numbers?
Hey Jarrod is the scar the same in software and features as Strix? So when u review it we can expect the same or ?
Yeah, same shameless no-MUX across all the Asus 2021 line-up (bar 1 or 2 Intel Tigerlake future products). Keep afar from those if you define yourself a gamer.
Btw strix runs kinda hot for g15 and is like just bad according to dave2Ds discord server suggestions thatâs what Iâm said
Are you using the Stock RAM memory on the Legion 7?
thanks for showing dgpu only tests.
Thank you for checking Linux!
The previous generation Legion 7i (mine is i7 10875h, 2080 Super) has issues with sound and Linux as well. Lenovo seems entirely uninterested in fixing this and it's already been reported that this new model has the same issue. It's very frustrating as I want a powerful, (mostly) professional looking laptop that can also game when the mood strikes me. I'm in Linux at least 93% of the time.
I understand that this isn't a Linux supported laptop, but there's nothing stopping them from releasing drivers or providing documentation so someone else can address this. I've been using Linux since the 90's and otherwise I don't need any other support. Everything else works great under Linux including g-sync when optimus is disabled.
I would have returned this laptop in the 30 day window had I known this would be an ongoing issue (I bought mine in August of 2020).
Unfortunately, one of my hinges broke a few days ago. This seems to be a common problem with the older Legion 7 and sounds like it's probably fixed with the newest models. Just waiting for ultimate support to get the parts and come to my house to repair my laptop on the spot.
Maybe I can have the tech disconnect the annoying LED on the Legion logo on the back of the lid (seen in this video). It pulses while the laptop is asleep and can annoy me when I'm trying to sleep. Or I could just put electrical tape on it. :p
But u can turn off the back light with simple fn+u.
*FPS boost the performance and GPU wattage right jarrod?*
Thank you sir for always doing great comparisons on two laptops that people will judge side by side. Can't wait for the Legion comparison video
I would have loved to get a 2021 Legion, just for that MUX switch but because it was taking forever to be released in the US, I went for the 5800h/3080 Scar 15 @2k which is my max budget and not a dollar more. Even though about 14% gaming performance is lost on the Scar, I feel as though I wouldn't be able to find a better performing machine from Lenovo at $2k usd.
What laptop would you recommend for all around performance? I will be mainly performing content creation but am an avid gamer, budget is not a problem, and I need something powerful but versatile. I feel like you'd recommend the legion 7 even with the brick a/c adapter but I just want to see your thoughts, I'm getting antsy waiting for legion 7 while the legion 5 dropped and is available lol.
Honestly, if you're doing some content creation, you'll definitely want that nice 16" 16:10 1600p screen. Feels weird and constrained to go back to 1080p 16:9 after that !
Looking laptop for deep learning initial training and testing.
Whose cooling system technology is better ? Scar 15 has cpu liquid cooling and legion 7 u said has thermal paste. I guess they have already taking care of GPU cooling.
Also comment on for how long these system be continuously put for work before they heat and shutdown.
I already have a standard Lenovo laptop (2014 model) and observed that the laptop heats up more when running Ubuntu as compared to using windows. Do these new system have the same issue ?
wich one do you reccomend for architecture ??? PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to this video I got the legion 7 đ€ 0 regrets, thanks man your videos are amazing
Jarrod, could you please tell me if the legion 7 has a good enough screen response time, will it be that noticible.Could you please bring review of legion 7i intel 11th gen .
Asus has 3 ms respond time. While legion have 7ms (normal mode) But legion could go for 4ms with diffrent settings
Those 3D mark scores look like a 2080ti/3070. Thatâs fantastic but begs the question of why theses laptop screens are not high resolution. Looks like your gaming benchmarks are heavily cpu bound Jarrod. Anyways thanks for the best laptop reviews period.
Seems like a high power limit 3070 with a ryzen 7 is the sweet spot to me
I'd like to see the price difference between r7 and r9 with a 3070. Alienware only charges $100 for the r9 if you're getting the 3070 m15 r5. At 5% of the overall cost of the machine, I think that's a pretty good deal.
Can i buy rog strix scar 15 or legion 7 which is better?
Great review. Just remember that on Optimus-equipped devices, if you use an external monitor through the USB-C port, you'll squeeze all the juice out of that GPU. That's why Lenovo performs so much better in games here. It should perform better due to the increased W limit, but marginally. USB-C external display will get you the extra.
This is definitely true, although it's nice to have the option to disable Optimus even if you don't have an external screen.
Hey there, some days ago you boosted the power of the Legion 5 Pro, does this also work for the Legion 7?
Legion 7 already has better ram and that is even dual channel
So it is not possible
The only way to get better performance is overclocking in bios

Yes
How does the Legion 7 have a slightly better colour gamut when the Scar 15 has a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut?
This is just what I measured with these specific panels, the 100% DCI-P3 might be with a different size/resolution/panel model, and also the exact same panel is always subject to variance too.
@@JarrodsTech You are correct. I did not read the full specs of the 1080p Scar 15 laptop you are reviewing in the video. I mistakenly thought you had the Scar 15 with the 165 Hz panel. I love your content. Keep up the excellent work.

only down sides: no camera (but it comes with an external one) and the biggest one is that stupid mux switch that causes so much trouble (a lot of apps think that you only have the built in graphics and doesn't recognize or use the powerful 3080).
