Same as me Cobrah. I bought the Razer 14" 3070 during Black Friday 2021. I was looking more at Asus, Lenovo and Alienware laptops beforehand so I hadn't did my homework on Razer (but made an impulse buy as I saw a good deal).
I thought the Razer Blade 14 was built well, but the backlight not showing on the caps lock was a surprise. The webcam was poor too and the keyboard wasn't the best either, but I thought the display was nice and thermals weren't too bad for me once I dropped settings on AMD's software.
I spent a week or too on the Razer subreddit. Big mistake. I came across dozens of threads about batteries bloating, batteries exploding and support being terrible.
Like you, it was enough of a concern for me to ship it back.

@@MashITTech I agree. Out of interest, what laptops have caught your eye this year?
On paper, I think Asus have made quite a stir by adding mux switches to their line up and webcams to their G series.
I was close to buying a discounted G15 before, but was put off by the lack of a webcam. So the new version is enticing, especially as it has a QHD screen.
From what people have said, the build quality isn't as good as Lenovos and Alienwares. Still, 1.9KG is better than 2.5KG when you're out and about.

Definitely as the chassis can easily handle the power of a 3080. You just need to weigh up if the extra cost is worth the 15% or so better performance (I am not sure how much the 3080 model is selling for where you are but in the UK it was quite a lot more)

Good review. The top spec ones (5900HX, 32GB RAM and the 16GB 3080 RTX) are unavailable in Germany and Austria ever since they came out. Got extremely lucky ordering mine in my home country Bulgaria. My parents picked it up and when I go on vacation to visit them, I'll get it. Now they are sold out in Bulgaria too. Unknown when they'll be available again.
Not gonna lie tho, the top spec version costs as much as a used car and I bought it, cause I don't want to replace laptops every few years.
My (still current laptop - Thinkpad S540) has been a trooper for almost 8 years now, but it is verging on being obsolete in today's computer world.
Also I decided to treat myself, first time I buy the best of something shortly after it's come out.
One of the first things I'll do when I'm home and fire it up is turn off the RGB lighting and it's power hungry software. I don't need a rainbow light show, as I'll use the laptop for work too. One reason I chose the Legion over other gaming laptops, is because the legion with RGB off, just looks like a high end laptop and wouldn't look out of place in an office meeting.

How would you compare the 2021 Legion models (Intel or AMD) with the X17? Which do you prefer? I’m on the fence with both. The X17 is absolutely gorgeous and I do like a 17.3” screen with a 360hz refresh rate but I can get a Legion 7i with a 3080/32gb ram/1tb ssd for the exact same price as the X17 with a 3070/16gb ram/1tb ssd (which is probably single rank ram so I’ll need to spend even more on upgrading). I want the Alienware a little more because of its stylish looks and larger panel but am extremely tempted by the Legion for the more powerful hardware at the same price. Alienware is just so expensive. I purchased both to lock in the orders and plan to either cancel or return one of the units (which ever comes first).

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Před 2 lety +2

That is a tough one as I love both and think you would be happy with either of them! In the UK when you add coupons to the Alienware I can get them for a similar price. But if the Legion 7 is much cheaper then I think you should probably vote with your wallet.
Advantages for X17: bigger screen and some great gaming screen options, amazing cooling system and keyboard remains cool, machine is built like a tank, amazing keyboard typing experience but layout could be better
Advantages for Legion: 16:10 high DPI screen great for work and good for gaming, lit ports at the back and a couple of ports on the side, keyboard layout is good but it is a bit cramped and the keys are too soft for my liking.
      Hope this helps

This review was super helpful to this on my radar, but the intel version with 11th gen CPU, 3080, 32gb ram, and thunderbolt 4 checks all my boxes. This kitten purrs and stays cool! Also I'm just curious, in your Alienware m15 R5 review, Shadow of the Tomb Raider averages at around 112fps @ 1080p and 94fps @ 1440p. However, in this video the Legion 7 averages at around 91fps @ 1080p despite having the 140w version of the RTX 3070. I believe rest of the specs for both the laptops are exactly the same. This computer is a beast, it can run Star Citizen at max settings no issues and still get 40-70 fps. The fan is pretty quiet compared to other gaming laptops ive had over the years from ACER and MSI. The RBG lighting is insane at how much you can customize it. Not only can you customize each individual key, but you can customize each individual LED on the outside and in the vents. Or group whatever combination of keys and outside LEDs together and then add different effects to those groups. Its dope. For $2k I dont think you can get a better gaming laptop as of this writing.

Even with the "TI" gpu laptops coming out + ryzen 6th gen around the corner, its still just an insanely good laptop. in 2020 I wouldnt have ever recommended buying a laptop for gaming, even with the desktop gpu prices. but this thing is gonna be my desktop replacement actually. ordered the exact same model yesterday and itll get here somewhen next week. performance + good thermals. i just cannot find anything bad about it. i dont even mind the ICUE software since I am using a K95 platinum anyway when on my desk and I configure my macros in that software anyway. I really cant wait to get it.
