Mould 42 Revealing What is Inisde these Mystery Moulds I bought on Gumtree

  • This is the series where I reveal what is inside these pottery moulds I found on Gumtree.
The story goes, I found a listing on gumtree for pottery stuff. When I arrived the seller said 'I have all these pottery moulds would you like them as well?' and I said 'why not'. On the way home, I had the brain child to do a social media video series revealing what each mould is.
The mystery is in the fact that I had no idea what I had said yes to, some of the moulds are labelled and easy to tell but some of them are a little more difficult. The beauty is that all of the plaster moulds surprise you no matter the presentation of labels, titles or identifiable surface inside.
So come join me as I dive into this series and share the mould fun. I would love to hear any information you may have on the moulds and to let me know any stories you have that the moulds remind you of in the comments.
Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!
    Heaps of love,
    Shelby

I love how Nerdforge shows a clock with their videos to show how long it really takes. Non artists really don't get how much time things take. I used to do crochet amigurumi and blankets, so many people thought you can put pump them out in a few hours.

Yes, people are clueless. I paint ooak tile coasters. Some of them are super intricate with tiny lines and dots (like you find in mandalas) and 12 different color all on a 4 inch square tile. And they cant figure out why you cant just paint it all in 1 go either

Weaver here. Just threading the loom takes me probably 15-30 hours. Then I still have to do the actual weaving, the finishing and all the admin. Not to mention drawing up designs. 😉

Oohhh, the cute strawberry planters where there are multiple holes going up the sides of the pot not just the top! Each hole could come out of the caps of these faces! So cute! Or just place a small'ish hole where the stem comes out and put an air plant coming out the top!😊🍓

I really appreciate what you're saying about how long it actually takes vs the romanticized, fast paced idea we have of the whole process as we see it on social media. I was just discussing that with a friend this morning, how important it is to create things with the intent of NOT posting it on social media and just making things I like for myself in order to avoid burn out. It's really stressful when you hit a roadblock as an artist, when you see everyone posting loads of new amazing work so fast and you barely finished anything compared to them. I'm happy that we start to discuss the impact of "grind culture" on artists and how we can make it better for us to still enjoy being creative!

I personally like the light pink ones, but maybe that’s because I like muted colors. They would be great as succulent planters, like the succulent is the ‘leaf’ of the strawberry. Also, I think that them having strawberry flowers painted on them would look adorable! And maybe this would be too kitschy, but maybe as a one of a kind tea set? Not my favorite mold, but still cute nonetheless.

I really love that you are the type of person that can paint these so casually and not fuss over the micro details of the mold. I would be there for a week getting each one of these exact to the details of the piece. I'm the type of artist that gets exasperated if the final result is not flawless to my eye I have to just put some pieces in timeout. Then revisit them in a week with fresh eyes and no preconceived notion of what it should have looked like in the moment.

I really really appreciate this, so so much! Thank you! I have already had a really nasty person comment on this video pretty much being a prime example of what this discussion was about (they have now been blocked from this channel). It is a really tricky thing to balance and my point behind this video was not to complain or to really even have an exact take away. The main point was to give an insight into the pottery process and that these videos cant be made overnight! It sometimes not all joyful and positive, sometimes its really logistical and finding a sweet balance between creative outlet, content creation and the business side. Again, thank you for listening and being here! I am so grateful.

I 100% agree! I think I was a little underwhelmed because they didn't quiet meet the criteria for me! I did like the whimsy of them but I think maybe their noses or something need tweaking! I am not sure! Pottery is so hard sometimes as a fellow perfectionist! I have learnt so much and given myself so much space to just allow my fingers and hand movements to just exist!

I'm also not in love with the strawberries but they are very cute and look nice still. Also, as someone who took pattern in high-school, yeah, pottery takes FOREVER! And most of that time it either drying, and kilning, or if your hardcore sculpting, trying to keep it from drying out and sculpting detail. Like all art is time consuming but pottery is one of if not the most time consuming even if you're just doing basic stuff. It's why I keep to acrylics and either polymer clay or apoxy sculpt when I wanna do sculpting. Less time but can't easily use molds with either.

In my freetime I like to crochet so I understand how much time you spend on every single creature in your collections!
Just keep going and do what you like!
I hope you enjoy your art as much as me watching your videos!
(Hopefully my sentences are grammatically correct, I am from Germany, so please don`t judge me;) 😊

That advice is so good. I do pour painting and it really takes a while.

You're so inspiring. I'm an artist as well and I'm finally getting my very own kiln on my birthday this Saturday. My dream is to be a successful artist and I absolutely fell in love with ceramics at college. You gave such good advice on being an artist and I'm taking notes on what you said. I have an art page on Instagram and Facebook and I've done a miserable job of keeping them going lol but that's all gonna change when I get my kiln. I love your mystery mold series and I've been binge watching for a few days now. Maybe when I get my kiln and get things rolling I'll try molds too! There's so many on Facebook for sale and it's so exciting just wondering what they all are! Keep on making your art. It's all amazing and I love what you do.

They’re so cute with your signature eyes! My favorites are the faces that look like :3 and Ü lol. If you wanted to add on to your already busy schedule you could cut the tops into lids and make them little sugar containers for tea time :~) also, if you ever consider going to a 2-week CZcams schedule, that would be ok!! Lots of artists I follow here also do a two-week upload schedule. Love your jeans and Vegemite sweater this vid ~ ✨

I used to live in a town named Strawberry, these would have sold well in the Strawberry store there. But I really don't care for the faces on them. You did a really good job with them.

I agree with you ppl have noooo idea. Well most ppl, how much time goes into art. Especially pottery. I used to do high fire functional pottery, so even longer firings. Now, haven't had a kiln for a few years, I knit. I sell my knits at craft fairs and on etsy, and still ppl don't seem to understand it can take 15 -17 hours, my estimate, to knit a larger shawl. And I'm pretty fast too! Yarn can be expensive too, for more luxury fibers. I"m always surprised at in person events when ppl question my prices, I've had a couple actually loudly scoff and make a big deal about it too. To my face. It's not like they're that crazy expensive, but I do try to be fair to myself and my customers.

The non-red ones read as unripe strawberries to me. When I find locally grown, fresh picked strawberries, there are often deep red ones packed full of juicy flavor. Don't be afraid to use a deeper red on these adorable strawberries.

The mould is so creepy ngl, but your painting really helps bring it out of the uncanny valley with how cutsey your style is. It brings it to more cartoony rather than too human-strawberry science experiment escaping the testing facility 😂

Great video!!! I would either weight them and make them into garden decor (could you imagine those quirky little guys sitting in a real strawberry patch lol) or I would use them as a houseplant buddy (in big houseplant pots put a little guy peaking out under some foliage).

I was looking up this set and there are additional pieces you can add to the strawberry which is hands and feet. I like your imaginative take on them. D-859 and D-527
