The first assignment my cello teacher gave me was to listen to a bunch of youtube videos and write a paragraph on each. This led to a discovery of massive amounts of online experts on cello playing that amounted to a panel of experts. Most of what i've found backs up my teacher's personal methods, and this has caused me to take excellent (but at the time, seemingly insignificant) advice from my teacher that I might otherwise have passed by.
Stupid or skeptical? It is certainly true that many experts arrive accidentally at good results using flawed methods that are not repeatable. There are also many expert who arrive at the same good results using different and seemingly opposing methods from other successful experts. To confuse the matter further, there are many experts who are also terrible teachers with frustrated students. Unless you are an expert, you have no way to evaluate experts until you test their methods.
In general people are overall stupid. So for one, they dont know expert advise when they hear it. Second, the people who are ignorant. This is mostly attributed to laziness, and easier, cheaper, faster will suffice or satisfy . Third is that it is purely human nature to do whatever it is your way due to personality traits, just because you think your way is better. As they say, a little knowledge is dangerous.
