    Once again, Mark's deep commitment to his instruments comes through. Whether you agree with him or disagree with him, he has a deeply thought tonal point of view, which for me is what makes his amps and other high quality boutique amps like them so interesting. Good work, Mark.

    Tone King, Two Rock & Dr. Z are s few of the ones that also do point to point handwired amps.

    Really hoping to get the money together for one of these 2 amps this year. My only gripe with the imperial not having an attenuator for when I need to play quieter. Can anyone do a comparison between the standard version and this hand wired?

  • @thehandseesall
    @thehandseesall Před 11 lety +1

    I'm all for that but, just because its hand wired it doesn't make it any better tone wise just different.
    place 10 point to point hand wired amps in a line and chances are they will all sound a little different due to the inconsistencies of point to point where as circuit board amps have the same consistency each and every time which is what you ideally want if you want to sell them in the numbers.
    A one off point to point is wicked but an army of mesa's sound consistent.

    Ptp is great but has the tendency to be big. It sounds great but boards are nice too. If the price bothers you remember that it will be with you for awhile. Folks are still rockin' 50 yr old Marshall Ptp's.

    You built circuit board amps for the last 20 years and now you say PTP is better, right. Though I really like your amps !

    of course PTP is better bro.. but circuit board is easier and way less time consuming.. but you do lose warmth. I don't know why but I've used a couple PTP fenders at a studio and I could tell the difference. He's right... they do kind of react differently more sensitive. But for time sake that's the deal... boards are better. more reliable. but not better sounding

    There are issues many times with PCB board amps inherent in cheaper production. Mesa engineers alot of the issues out, such as directly mounting the tube sockets to the chassis, splitting component spread into seperate smaller PCB's for sound transference issues etc. The other thing with PTP wired amps is that they do not suffer from what some call "impedence" bleed. It happens when you have lots of signal paths very close together on the same board. Again, Mesa engineers and better PCB designers create larger signal path lines on the PCB further spaced apart to counteract this. There is no hard and fast rule, and a quality amp designer using a correctly engineered PCB can have an amp every bit as good and reliable (if not more in most cases) to a PTP. They will never sound exactly the same simply by virtue that all that connective wire will create a bit more overall impedence in the circuit, which PCB boards cut back on quite a bit, so the "feel" issue (whether you can hear it is debatable) is extremely true. I personally prefer PTP amps simply for longevity and ease of repair...but to simply argue they are better ignores the argument, they are different. Also, most "cheaply" made amps happen to be PCB, with cheaper value components, poorly laid out signal paths, and stupid design ideas like directly mounted tube sockets or heat creating components. I myself stick with PTP simply because often the signal paths are less complex (which I prefer) and I prefer the feel/tone, but there is nothing wrong with a well designed PCB amp, it's just that most are not....

    you people make me laugh when you can say you can hear a difference between ptp and pcb amps. as long as they are the same circuit they will sound the same. the only difference is the layout and how they are made if you want to drop twice as much because your amp is handwired ptp go right on ahead but me and my engineering buddies will sit here and laugh at you

    fano guitars are high end guitars must be that.

  • @phriend2spin
    @phriend2spin Před 11 lety

    There can be a huge tonal difference in playing handwired point-to-point amps. Vintage Fenders were all PTP handwired amps. None of the new circuit board amps sound anything like the original Fender blackface amps. Even with the so-called "reissues". There are a lot of technical reason for the difference in tone. Now none of the big manufactures are making PTP amps anymore. Tone King, from what I can tell, tries to reproduce that vintage tone and add their own twist.

    Whatever dude, you just want to sell your hand wired version and you're making up nonsense like "it hangs with you a little more" just say its hand wired and people will pay more without saying that other stuff and you'll get more respect. We're guitarist not suckers!

  • @mck974

    Are you suggesting that he NOT explain his take on how HIS hand wired amp differs from an amp with a circuit board, dynamically? That's a little harsh don't you think? I mean, come on man are you jealous of his knowledge or something? news flash... Not everyone knows the difference. I would say you need to lighten up and cut the guy some slack. And of course he wants to sell amps. lol
