Thomas Anthony DeSimone (May 24, 1950 -- January 14, 1979), also known as Two-Gun Tommy or Tommy D, was a Sicilian-American gangster and associate of the Lucchese crime family in New York. DeSimone was a grandson and nephew of Los Angeles mob bosses, Rosario DeSimone and Frank DeSimone, respectively. He was married to Angelica "Cookie" Spione, but had many mistresses, including Theresa Ferrara. In Martin Scorsese's film Goodfellas, the character Tommy DeVito (portrayed by Joe Pesci) is based on DeSimone.

The makers of Goodfellas said Pesci's portrayal of DeSimone was actually a watered down version of the real person. They couldn't portray him accurately because he was that ruthless.
Pesci's portrayal was pretty horrifying so if his portrayal was a watered down version the real one would've made me shit my pants
It's said the movie toned down Burke and Vario too.

The problem is with some gangsters they got no sense of humour
He used strangers as target practice. he got what he got.
+Jack Woods naa belieme it was real
Killing a made man Batts just because of an insult (excluding Jimmy's motive) is proof that he was unbelievably reckless and impulsive. But Spider was just low level and maybe fair game. Anytime you kill anyone, you could evoke desire for vengeance from friends and family. The Mob itself won't go after you unless you killed someone who is made especially if you are making them money hand over fist.
When I first watched that scene on Goodfellas, it shocked me, and did find it hard to believe. A great illustration to show how brutal Mob life can be, but really? Gun down the kid serving you drinks on a whim? Wouldn't someone have to answer to that action? I mean besides having to dig the hole all by yourself?
If you can show me where Spider's existence is disputed, I'm prepared to consider that he is just a character created by Henry Hill. This would fly in the face of of several Wiki entries, documentaries etc. Even appearing on Stern with Spider's sister. Would he go that far just for the purpose of BS'ing us even more?
I'm sure Tommy had a long list of people that would have loved to kill him, but were rightfully way to scared to even consider attempting it.
Why would Henry lie come on now bitch
A guy whose about to get made wouldn't be the card game bartender for a bunch of non-made guys. He wouldn't be running around being the errand boy.
The whole thing about killing Batts over an insult was made up for the movie. The killing didn't even happen during his coming home party. That party happened, but the killing was a few weeks later when Tommy and Jimmy invited him out for drinks for the purpose of getting him drunk and killing him. The reason why is Tommy had taken over Batt's numbers racket while he was away, and didn't want to give it back. So they knocked him off.
Bro idk only the ones that was there do
Joe pesci as tommy was truly terrifying absolutely amazing.
Same in casino. Scary dude. Great actor!

We go to movies to get entertained. Viewers want to get scared. If it wasn't for this desire, tickets wouldn't sell. I guess Hill wanted to give Desimone the benefit of the doubt after the first shooting.

I bought the first 2 copies of B&B when I was 8 years old in a 1965 because I wanted to read about John Dillinger and Baby-Face Nelson. Glad to see you're still around.
I’ve heard in other docs that Tommy didn’t want to kill stacks as they were close but was forced to because stacks trusted Tommy as they were good friends.
Yeah, that's what I heard too, but if Tommy didn't kill Stacks, he would've never got made.
I heard it was actually paully that had Tommy killed. While Henry was in prison, paully was actually banging his wife. Tommy went to see her thinking he could get some.. she said no.. And he raped her. This pissed off paully who had him clipped. And Henri always went along with the gambino story in am effort of saving the honor of his wife.
The actor who played Billy Batts is simply first rate. There are parts of Goodfellas where you forget you are watching a movie, it is so suspenseful and real. That being said, it in no way glamorizes the life of these arch-criminals. It shows the extreme highs, and the extreme lows, the depravity and the evil that consumed these men's souls. The pain caused to their wives and children is excruciating, like when Henry gets busted by Karen for being a serial cheater. Those scenes are almost too intense. Brutal. And leads to a nightmare--dying of cancer in prison or being tortured and murdered. There is no other outcome.
+Brigid In the end, the life is an empty lonely hole. Thanks for the comment.

@@Bloodlettersandbadmen Billy Bats was a Made man and Tommy Wasn't.
Never a smart move to ask a total psychopath if he still shines shoes.
Well if you are an average person then indeed you should never under any circumstances say anything to psychopath but then again like the narrator says you can just get killed for no apparent reason other than being a target practice for Tommy's new gun
For William "Billy Bats" Bentvena though it was different thing altogether He was a Made Guy and if the scene from the movie can be taken into account then you can obviously see that Tommy was disrespectful towards Billy Bats which is basically equal for a common soldier in the army to be disrespectful towards a high ranking military officer
At this point it was a one way ticket this one Tommy Desimone was a foot soldier which basically equates to an expendable nobody so Billy Bats had to put him in his place
A normal foot soldier in the mafia would've kept his mouth shut but Tommy like you said was psychopath so basically one thing led to another and eventually ended up with Tommy Desimone suffering an agonizing death at the hands of the mafia

He also left out the part that Paul Vario is the one who probably gave him up. Vario, according to Henry Hill, never liked Tommy. Others state that Tommy was finally given up by Vario because Tommy tried to rape Henry Hills wife, Karen. Henry was still in prison doing 10 years for attempted murder. Vario didn't do this for purely altruistic reasons. Oh no, he was having an affair with Karen himself.

He was good friends with my father and when my father passed he refused to let me pay for the funeral and footed the entire bill.

Darth he was scary. Everything I've read even folks who knew him as a kid said he wasn't right in the head.
I gotta say Henry Hill was a known bullshitter and after Wiseguy's (and Goodfellas) success he tried to make up shit so he could write other books and live off that money. It's widely known he had many addictions, probably hundreds dollars a day habit. So that story I find a little hard to believe. For fuck sake Anastasia was whacked and one of the reasons was that he ordered the death of a civilian.. and Anastasia was a boss. Tommy was a nobody and he would have been clipped the next day for killing a random guy and leaving him on the street. I call bullshit.
Very valid point. However, doubt doesn't constitute proof. For years I made a living documenting primary sources in historical investigation. We may speculate as to what was a motive to an event, but that doesn't make it true.
Bloodletters & Badmen No worries I'm just stating the obvious, that story smells like bullshit from a mile away. Even the punchline "I'm a mean cat" sounds like something a 6th grader made up. Another thing about the movie's portrayal of DeSimone, is that a lot of the buddy scenes with with Tommy and Henry in the movie are based on Henry and Lenny Varrio, Paulie's son. This is quite noticeable in the book. If I remember correctly, the double date where Henry meets Karyn is with Lenny and his date. Henry Hill seldom hung out with Tommy DeSimone socially. He was genuinely scared of him. He was typically with Tommy on mob business, and usually Jimmy Burke was with them.
Tommy also hung out with Carbone (Angelo Sepe) a lot. Fat Andy’s son said Tommy and someone else (I think Carbone) used to hang out with Coke dealers, get high, and then kill the dealer afterward so Paulie wouldn’t find out.
So yea I’d be scared to hang out with that guy too lol

Yeah the double date actually was Henry and Paulie’s son with their dates. Scorsese said the movie was so long and involved that he didn’t want to introduce yet another character in the film. So he kept it simple with Henry and Tommy.

Your show has helped me keep my sanity.
Great video
I never understood why Jimmy Burke was never killed for his part in Billy Batts
Big time money earner
this narrator is really good
Thanks my friend.
I agree. Really good voice. I have a direct question to you - do you know anything more about DeSimone's childhood? Whatever that could let one understand why he've became a psychopath?
oDJOldskull i made that comment before i knew Mr. Bloodletters & Badmen was the narrator; not that it would have affected my comment hahha; hey, some psychopaths have absolutely normal childhoods
Kaiser he asked me to kiss his fartbox. that's just plain gross. i'll never kiss his fartbox or any other place where his father's penis has been.
Mic Rophone thank for the info do u know if there are any videos out there talking about his childhood I really want to know more about him
I'm thrilled too learn about the real backstories of these gangsters that we see in movies.
Great video 👍,you do brilliant work on these mafia videos, good to know the real truth,I know joe was small but he played that guy amazing, best mafia film ever, although casino was also great,
Dang stacks, you probably a be late for your own funeral!!!!
Hard to know the whole truth because Henry Hill was such a drunken pathological liar.
Neither could fuck with the mob. They're retarded politicians. Can u have bone spurs in the mob or would the mob give a fuck?
@@jbl2298 I'm pretty sure the American president could fuck with the mob or anyone else he wanted to.
@Dark Demonik no... he said pussy is not ad bad as being a chomo.
Jb l Trump HAD to deal with the mob to get his construction projects completed.
Who do you think controlled the concrete business in NYC?
All the guys in that scene were amoral and dishonest. These aren't the kind of people you ever want to meet.
Great channel 💯
I'm addicted to this content.
I don't know where you came from bro but God Bless you for posting these videos. Im in NYC so I'm loving this.
Thanks my friend. God's blessing on you too!
Henry Hill June 11 1943- June 12 2012
So he died the day after his birthday the day after his birthday. Cool.
Thank You😊
I didn't know that the real Tommy was a TALL dude! Makes me wonder how tall the real Henry Hill really was. In the movie, Henry Hill was taller than almost every other man in the film.
Marsena, Henry was shorter than Tommy by a lot if memory serves me correctly.
Yes, Henry doesn't look that tall in real life.
I think I read one time he was like 5'10'" but I may be wrong.
Bloodletters & Badmen Hill was just under 5ft 8in tall, the 5ft 10 came about because he once said,"I'm five ten,in high heels."
Henry in high heels? No a pretty site:) Ha ha
The mafia prides itself in being classy and following a strict code. All these rules go out the window when they decide it's time for someone to be whacked
I just watched this a day before Halloween 🎃 perfect 👌
Very well done video I enjoy your channel thanks very much are you on Patreon?
I saw an interview from someone in the Gambino family and they said DeSimone was tortured and finally killed. Then is body was cut in half with a chain saw and thrown into the ocean.
Source?
There is lots of speculations, same as with casino movie, nicky shown killed in corn field while in reality there was some speculations that he was killed with brother in some house basement that burried in corn field.
@@Krahamus … that came out in the “family secrets” trial in 2007 i believe. Michael and Tony Spilotro where killed in a basement under the assumption that Michael was gonna be made. Tony’s last words were “can i say a prayer?”
@@regretfully77 supposedly they were beaten to death on a basement within Bensenville, il. One of the men who beat him told his wife...for some reason, and she told the feds/entered witness protection.
@@propheci …. Yep… Albert Tocco’s wife.
Why does the narrator sound like he has his head in a bucket??
STFU !!!
