  • In today's video I'm showing you how to use Liquitex string gel which is an acrylic paint medium that allows you to turn your acrylic paint into strings. I also have an abstract painting demonstration, showing you how to use Liquitex string gel to build up layers and create some abstract paintings and textures. But what were your thoughts on this Liquitex string gel? Will you be using this acrylic paint medium for your next work of art? And are there any other acrylic paint mediums that you'd like to see tested and demonstrated on the channel? Leave your suggestions in the comments below!

    String gel is quite an odd medium! I also tested some DIY painting hacks, but which one won???...

    I am so happy that I chose to look through your videos instead of checking my notifications!🙂
    Been wanting to see a demo of this medium for over a year!
    I'm curious if it would work with liquid watercolors, pigment powder, and mica.
    I love your abstract, sometimes simplicity looks best. In this case it definitely did.
    You are da man!
    Liquitex said nothing about using it as a permanent resist.

      @AnthonyCrammen  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh this is an old video so it's probably's awful!! 🙈🙈 If I remember right I think it would work in different ways with watercolours and powders, similarly to a wax resist or something.

    Useful video on how to use String/Tar gel medium. I found the first bit a little difficult to watch because your hand and arm were in the way. Your painting though is awesome. Thanks.

      Glad you found it helpful Jane! Yeah that was back in the day when I wasn't great at recording haha! Hopefully things have improved nowadays! And thankyou! It's a really easy medium to work with, definitely worth having a bit of fun and experimenting with it!

      Anthony Crammen thanks. I currently have two canvases on the go with slightly different methods. I’ve had tar gel for about 3 years and never really known what to do with it. I had great fun last night starting to play with it.

    • @AnthonyCrammen
      @AnthonyCrammen  Před 5 lety

      Oh cool! Yeah I think it's a cool medium to have a play with, you can get some really nice textutes with it too! Completely reminds me of glue gun strands but not hot and you can colour it lol.

    It seems like it could easily create a resist for watercolors, but I haven't tried it yet.

  • @scentopink
    @scentopink Před 5 lety +1

    Could you use it als dot for example with a dotting tool? Or in a bottle or Pipette for small dots?

    • @AnthonyCrammen
      @AnthonyCrammen  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah you could, if the dots end up being on the larger size they may spread a little bit as the string gel is quite soft, but should work find and dries very stiff.

  • @NuggetsDungeonTerrain

    Do you think that if you poured this over baking / wax paper it could be peeled off once dry?

    • @AnthonyCrammen
      @AnthonyCrammen  Před 2 lety

      Possibly, I think you'll end up with some strands that are similar to hot glue? Not 100% sure though!

    I found your video when looking to learn about string gel. You gave a very good explanation and examples. Thanks. Can you please tell me what size canvas did you use for the painting and do you recall approximately how much of the medium you used. I am trying to determine approximately how much $$$ it might cost to create a painting such as your example. Thanks again.

    • @AnthonyCrammen
      @AnthonyCrammen  Před 5 lety +3

      Hey Okmama! Glad you enjoyed the video! The canvas is 100cm x 49.5cm i'm pretty sure I used the majority of the tub or around half. I think in total the painting cost me around £50ish to create, but that's off the top of my head so I might be wrong lol!

    I just got a jar of that stuff, after a couple years of debating. *L* have you poured on glass to try and achieve a specific design? I keep thinking like a collage, on watercolor paper, I wouldn't want to mess up my original piece.*L* Just wondered if you'd tried peeling it off of something?
