      @00yiggdrasill00 Před 5 lety +69

      If i remember correctly the ut-at was designed as a specialist bridge crosser, thats why it has the bridge laying equipment. The issue was that while the walkers were indeed all terrain they were heavy with thumping foot falls that disablized some natural and constructed bridges so they needed a way to make their own or reinforce what was there.

    Notice that the majority of these are from the prequel era and/or Clone Wars.

      The original were made on a more limited budget and had minimal cgi. Most ships were cobbled together from a few different model kits limiting the amount of variety in ship design since they were all made of the same parts. The prequels had larger budgets and cgi letting them differentiate the ships more because they didnt have to share model parts.

    I really like the AT-AP, I remember having the toy of it back in the day and not realizing what the 3rd leg was for.
    now looking at it I realize the walker ran around on its main two legs to quickly get to an optimal firing position and then deployed the 3rd leg as a tripod for firing stability on its huge cannon
    it had more mobility than the larger AT-TE but still had its heavy firepower. I imagine it constantly moving on the battlefield, scouting positions and taking out key targets with its over sized cannon, moving on before the enemy could pin down its sniping position

      Some years ago some scientists from NASA, or something, were asked to analize all Star Wars vehicles. They determined that the single best designed vehicle is the Sandcrawler. I can't remember which ship they liked most, but they noticed that wings on ships are stupid and pointless, because some have very elaborate wing designs and others have none. So if there's an option to have none and the performance doesn't depend on it, one should choose a ship with few of them. And they also made note of the fact that asymmetric ships (especially those where the cabin is in any way off-set are likely very hard to pilot. This was all around the time the prequels were still new, so I can't provide a link.

    If walkers were the Empire's main war machines over tanks I don't understand why they didn't at least make different variants for different purposes. For instance the standard AT-AT and AT-ST would be best on urban worlds maintaining order. In combat roles, make AT-AT variants with anti aircraft turrets, and ones equipped with shield generators to protect other walkers, vehicles, and infantry. AT-ST variants could have Gatling guns and missle launchers and even adapt the shielding tech from the AT-XT.

One source I found says it was from a novel, one which was published on a Star Wars fan fiction community and it looks like other communities adopted its design. Not canon, but still cool.

    My favorite from this list is the All-Terrain Attack Pod. It's a practical design given that its third leg can act as a stabilizer for it's cannon

    I felt sure the AT-SP (all terrain siege platform) would be on this list made by fractal sponge its basically a six legged at-at the size of a small corvette with more guns than a light cruiser

    Good video, but why it's hidden? :D Also I think Battlezone II alien heavy walker tank was the best, weirdest walker I've seen so far. Un-even 5 legs and walloping but speedy gait was extremely fun to play with. Would love to see something similar in Star Wars as well. :)

    The AT-SE really needs some more attention. It looks awesome even though it is obvious to see that those legs aren't very stable

    With amphibious/beach assaults, wouldn't speeders be better?
    They can just keep going up beyond the beach - fast, then deploy outside of enemy killzones. And they can probe for unguarded avenues to attack if shore defenses are too intense at the designated point. They allow flanking manoeuvres and tactical flexibility.
    Imagine how useful they would be in a D-Day style situation, the defenders wouldn't be able to predict where they would hit and they could break out easier than a tank.

      In star wars repulsor lift had many problem with heavy vehicle. If someone try to make it ,he has to reduce the amour of vehicle of make the repulsor lift big enough that which both has it own big problem. heavy tank and heavy transport will not move fast like their counter thus make it a big target.

    One thing taht always bothers me when I see the Tie Crawler;
    ALL THE WEAPONS ARE ON THE BOTTOM!!!
    What sort of moron logic is that? You would have to expose the whole vehicle to shoot at anything, and any and all debris would block shots like crazy.

      Im thinking it would be a situation of "we already have all these tie cockpits so lets use what we have", it wouldn't be the first time even in real life its happened. if its fast enough it could be able to get around most things...i wont ever say its a good design though.
