- How much we charge to mow this mansion. In today’s video we will breakdown exactly what we look for when givng a lawn care estimate and exactly what we would charge to mow this mansion. We did get sidetracked a bit because the customer hit us with a huge $6,300 side job they want done also.
We do a size and price breakdown for lawn care using the LMN software program.
This helps us save time and money. We don't haver to get our measuring wheel out and walk the entire property by hand. We can us the software to get the footage and even acreage for the estimate quick and easy.

I remember doing landscaping with my grandpa sophomore-senior year of high school & we did a church property every Friday for $1600 yeah $6400/mo just off that one job, & we would mow the 3 acres of land behind it once a month for $2500 Rest In Peace Grandpop I'm thanking for everything you taught me in my now family owed successful career, I purchased a $368,000 home in Duncanville,Tx last year!
Your grandfather passed in wisdom and knowledge.
Church paying you $8900 a month. Yeah you should be able to afford a nice house.
Good thing people put all that money in the offering plate to help out the poor. Or pay you to buy an expensive house.
I'm getting ripped off I'm cutting a house with a barn getting a shitty check
With God all things are possible,me too I want to open a business cutting yards, hopefully I buy my own house right now I'm renting
This is a great walkthrough of your process. Awesome for you to put this kind of information on CZcams- inspiring the next generation of hard workers.
Been watching this Channel for a while and seen almost every video. I started my own business late last year and I just bought my first commercial mower. Brand New Toro Z Master 2000 60in. I am so excited to be picking it up Wednesday and joining the Toro family. Thank You Both for helping me find the confidence to take that big step and giving the advise to start being successful. Love You Both!!!
My estimate was $200 2x a month full service on both ($400 every 4 weeks)...thats me as 1 man and using a 72" mower
I’d probably get well over $400 here in RI biweekly. I try to avoid biweekly customers though. I’m a one man crew as well.
Only going to do weekly when I start
Here in Florida the grass would be a foot tall in 2 weeks lol
I can’t wait to see this video and hopefully y’all are staying safe and keep mowing
Thank you bud we are.
Other awesome video spencer and tq. Hope you guys are staying safe and health out there. You guys are making some good advice on giving estimate for mow yards. God bless your family, have a good sunny Sunday, and always keep on mowing and making money!!
Thanks Steven, Absolutely brother
I never ask them what they want done. I walk around and determine what I would want done (being a neat freak / OCD guy who loves a nice yard), and develop a price based on that. My price always includes every possible add on they could want.
Qualifier: We do yardwork only; no landscaping. Bidding a landscaping project would be more like a handyman project, to me. It would be more involved. But, with yardwork, we all know what they want: a beautiful yard.
This is a great video for the people that have just started a business and not to sure how to price out a job or even those that been doing it a while. You broke it down prefect!
I Like that software also. I never heard of it but I am checking it now for my self Thanks!
Very cool video always enjoy your video have a great upcoming week Shawn & tq
Boy do you look healthy now
Haven't watched any CZcams in like 2 years and by jingles you've changed!
Great video. Beautiful property. Keep up the good work!!
Estimates can make or break your business, regardless of which services you offer. Glad to see you have found a tool that makes you feel comfortable and can accurately estimate your needs and meets those of the customer.
Absolutely true Albert. Can't stay in business if your not making money.
This is why I work on my yard. Even if I had that huge property, I’d still do it myself. Being outside is nice. But hey, everybody’s lifestyle is different. So I can’t bash on this dude. They got to make a living. 👍
Lots of people don’t want to deal with it. I’ve had plenty of customers who say they want to do it themselves just to change their mind by mid summer. We wouldn’t be in business if it weren’t the case
When you get into that kind of money free time is scarce so it's impossible to find the time to deal with your yard better to hire someone else
Great video Spencer’s, excellent tutorial for someone who needs to address & understand what a customer should be charged. Basic services for all size properties. Very insightful.💯👍🏾❤️🙏🏾✝️🇺🇸
Thanks Glenda
Good video Spencer lawn care
Learning how to do estimates with shan and tq 😊
Another day, another lesson
Good info, and I really like how you extended the gate on the trailer, great idea.
Wow..... mind blown. I mow 1 acre with a pool for 500 a month. I thought it was a ton of edging but it’s nothing compared to this property. I’m in Florida so people don’t get that shock you’re talking about. #1 thing is don’t fold on your price. Lose 1 get 3 more mentality. If u keep working for chump change and shoring yourself you will only hurt yourself in the end. I feel that price is wayyy too low. I’m not starting this zero turn for less that 1150 a month. Great channel though.... you guys stay blessed🙏🏽
Thought the same thing. Only $170 to mow this huge ass yard? This would be pushing $300+ easily for me to take this property.
I wanted to cry when i heard the price you just said i really need to up my prices
FACTS!!!
I just do my employer gig, 900 plus acres... other mowing foremen figures a dollar a minute to get side jobs.
I do 2 dollars a minute or 100 and hour
Or he needs to lower his!
depends on where you are doing the cuts. different prices for different neighborhoods and different cities/states. i would suggest giving a high price then if the customers dont bite then lower a bit till they do then you know what people are willing to pay. just know that the more you charge the more the customer is going to expect from you. you cant always just charge top dollar. you need to find what works for you and the level of services you provide. personally my pricing strategy for maintenance type jobs is that if a crew of 3 worked a full 8-10 hour day that i want the company to profit $500 after all expenses. thats what works for me and the level of services i provide. on the other hand i did a retaining wall that took 3 days and charged $7800 and after all expenses i profited about $3500 so it all depends. my pricing strategy for things like hardscape is labor time and materials times 2 or all expenses plus %50 for my profit margin. depends on what kind of job. mulch is $75 - $80 per yard installed which does not include cost to prep for mulch. this might help people price their jobs if they just dont know how to begin figuring out what to charge but like i said its different for everyone. i know a company that charges every single job by estimated man hours at 30 an hour per guy and nothing else. it works and is a guaranteed set profit and they profit nearly 100k a year but they dont make nearly as much as they could.
thank you so much - great vid - up n comer learning heaps !
I remember working for a landscape company with a property almost that size. Every time we were scheduled to go there, OMG I thought we never get done with that property but it took about four hours cause it was just a handful of us.
That’s a two hr job max with 3 ppl
Great video, enjoyed watching it.👍🏻
What's up up yall, new sub. Salute from Lorain, 440. Thanks for this video, I'm starting my lawn care journey and this helps alot. ✊🏽
It’s been a while but this was definitely a great video!
Great video guys! Great info!
What a great, educational video. Very well done.
That program is amazing! Hope you get the job.
Good information. Y’all take care
I wish I could get 260 for that in rural South Georgia 😁. Good stuff!
This was my favorite video you guys ever did! Love learning these types of things and different aspects of running the business.. One quick question, do you have to charge sales tax in Ohio on your services? If you do, how do you factor that in and does the customer get mad?
I watch a plumber on yt, he said he quit doing estimates. When people call, he just tells them $65.00 an hour plus parts. He said he got tired of running all over town giving free estimates, and not making money. Kind of hard to do with lawn care, but food for thought. And this estimate made a great video too.
For the quality work you guys provide thats not a bad price for that big of a yard
My company calls what you did here tiered service. We have up to four tiers on some properties because not all of the properties needs to be cut or trimmed every single week. Our schedule will say T1 or T2 or etc. and that tells us exactly what we are doing for that property on that particular day. Many of our clients are surprised that we can custom fit our service with such detail but it is easy. We love happy clients !
Exactly man, I have heard of many different styles and options.
Perfect future house for the Spencers.
I know what town this is in, I drive by it at times. I have fun fiquring out where you are at. Kind of a game for me.I worked customer service for the gas company before I retired, so I have worked in most of the places you go to. Ron
Yes! My estimate was very close $175 weekly service without watching the video or seeing the comments. Similar prices here in Michigan.
Go for it that’s what I do every time enjoy your weekend
Thanks Nathan
Great video!
Thanks for sharing, I'm new to your channel
Thank you for this vid, and the software link.
Looks like your new place is gonna look amazeing after your done with it hehe nice looking place
Hahaha
Great job on backing up the trailer. 👍👍
Thanks Dave
Thanks for the info.
Looks like a good place for y’all to purchase the property! Got a nice looking garage!
Looks like a good spot for the new Spencer lawn care!! All you need is to put a garage up!
Awesome video. I’m right there with you on pricing. Great on you to offer a bit of flexibility on your service to help out the customer. I appreciate your openness with your pricing as well; this type of content is great to let you know if you need to make changes or reassures what you or doing. Thanks for the video 👊
Thank you sir. Always self evaluate. Nothing wrong with getting better.
it just blows my mind how some folks pay more to just have there grass cut and edging done than my house payment is lol......
Yes a person’s lifestyle changes based on their income bracket. I took care of homes in Austin that had water bills higher than my mortgage. But they also drive several 100k + vehicles.
Most of the time it costs more than their mortgage payment when gets really big.
A commercial properties biggest bill is usually the maintenance bill. And when you are looking at a property this large then you can see it’s close to a commercial property. Not to mention the mortgage payment on a home like this far exceeds $1,000 a month. So it is all relative.
We have a lawn that is $700 a month. The house is wild. Tons of grass to mow though.
It depends you have to know the cost of editing blades mower blades gas for all equipment
Yes sir Shawn stripe that bad boy up great video as well stay blessed 💪, safe.
Great video
TQ, you backed up that rig like a pro. should teach hubby how to get it done like that.
Hahaha, I have had a lot of practice.
I would charge $200 per service. ($100 per acre.) I would cut and edge everything each time I'm there using an edgit pro. With 2 of us using a 48 v-ride and a 61 Z3X we would have the entire property done in about an hour. Love these types of properties!
Love your vds stay safe
Thanks Ryan
Amazing video
Thanks Logan
I have learned a lot from your videos
I mow my house and inlaws (one house away). It was a 1 hour job. Inlaw added shrubs and plants and features.. Well over 2hr now. I skip edging if it looks ok.
Trimming bushes and weed control adds more time.
good work
I would like to see a video of the mowing/edging on this property. It would be nice to also see the $6500 landscaping results.
Great video. Could I ask, in a future video could you do an updated equipment tour and the specs please
For sure man.
I didn't know they made mansion sheds. Pretty cool.
Jeez that’s outrageous!
I appreciate the price break down!!
No problem at all.
You need to consider a 30" mower for those ditches. That'll save you a ton of time by not having to use a trimmer.
You might try to purchase a measureing and mapping wheel-get them at Lowe's and charge my the job, footage, edging, mowing, trimming trees, mulching and bedding, weed eating, cleanup-by the load, etc.
That's a nice house a house that I dream of having one day hopefully... and Spencer you can be a truck driver the way you backed the truck and trailer up
For sure man. Its beautiful
Great vidio
A walk behind edger would be great for that property.
That house is amazing. I have an uncle that lives about 1/4 mile from that house.
Regarding working with the customer and dropping the price, I think it was Zig Ziglar that said, "It is better to have a happy customer than an angry customer."
GREAT POINT! I NEVER THOUGHT OF IT THAT WAY! BUT IF A PRICE IS TOO HIGH, WE JUST GO TO A DIFFERENT STORE. LIKE THE WOMAN WHO CUTS MY HAIR, $17.00, PLUS I GIVE HER A TIP, SO IT'S AN EASY $20.00 FOR 15 MINUTES WORK. I SHOULD JUST GO TO A REGULAR BARBER WHERE IT WOULD COST ME $10.00. BUT MY HAIR IS CURLY, AND SHE DOES A WAY BETTER JOB THAN THOSE CHEAP PLACES, I'VE HAD SOME TERRIBLE HAIRCUTS AT THOSE CHEAP PLACES. ALSO, THE CHEAPEST PLACE OR PRODUCT MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU WANT. SOMETIMES YOU NEED A QUALITY PRODUCT AT A PREMIUM PRICE, SOMETIMES CHEAP STUFF IS OK.
Looks perfect for Spencer Inc. Buy it! ;)
Going to need a bigger mower movie reference lol
I don't offer options of not edging all my services are full service cut, edge, weedeat, and blow. Every service my first cut may be more due to edger blades needing to be replaced or set the lines but after that it's every time.
Nice video guys! Did the client get back about it yet?
Not yet bud. We sent the quotes.
As soon as I seen the property and considering looking at it on video, it looked more like a 2 acre size yard or a little more but from what I was seeing and me just basically pricing by the style of the yard and the terrain as far as slopes and banks and ditches or level to rolling style ground.... I also can see if it's a smooth ground or is it a rough type of ground and then I try to see how much weed eating there is to work around with a weed eater and doing it by myself... where I live, that would be a $350 per cut with weed eating and edging and I would say no less than $300 with only cutting and weed eating each time but your price estimator is pretty well on point,,, even though I don't use anything like that but I generally go look at places and price them by just how I see everything and walk over everything completely... I do lawn Care on the side as a sort of supplemental income so to speak but not anything like a main income but I have several different properties I take care of and try not to pick up no more than just a few new ones each summer because every so often I may lose one here or there and that will always happen with anyone that does it enough or for long enough even with long time customers, certain uncontrollable circumstances can pop up
I don't know if you do this but you can go to google maps, zoom in and print out a snap shot of the lot then write down on the pic what precisely you think needs done.
When it is raining season how do you get by money wise?
Where are you getting income from?
Do you save up for those months?
Great video, thanks for the information, what system do you use for looking and measuring the property via satellite ?
We use the LMN software, you can also do it on google earth as well.
Spencer Lawn Care Thank you, that’s great information that’s going to help me, God bless you!
Hope you get that account! Fingers crossed!
Thanks Lou
I'm doing a 4 acres property
No edging , few trees around takes 2 - 2.5 hours for $1000 4x per month
7 months per season
$7000 cash money at the beginning of the season
My only question is it seems like the property has not been maintained very well hope there aren't going to be payment problems
Who designed your logo and put them on the shirts for you ? I'm looking to get some lawn care shirts made. Thanks and always love your videos. ✌️
I designed it, and then we sent it to artist to finish it an clean it up! They also can turn it into a pdf for you. And then you just take it to any embroidery or decal shop.
@@SpencerLawnCare Thank you.
Don't forget the snow plowing too!
You need a KR Chariot. Look it up. Or a hover board
wow you guys are close to me (Just north of Akron)
Wow prices have went up since I use to do lawncare LoL. I know y'all have a lot if expenses so it's definitely justifiable. When I use to do yard work on my own (my full time job was landscaping on an army base) we use to charge $40 to mow and edge a 1/2 acre property and that was with a push mower LoL. That was also around 12 or 13 years ago though.
I would love to start up my own business in lawncare but to buy the equipment, including a truck and trailer, I just don't have the capital atm.
Nice house hope it all works out for you to get it
is there a video on the software you use to come up with the estimates?
Hope you get it. I see great videos out of this one
I want to get a drone, it would be sweet if we get it.
@@SpencerLawnCare o that would be SSSWWWWEEEEEETTTTT
Thank for the detailed vid! Side question would you get a diesel for your next truck?!
Everything is an option. Thank you
@@SpencerLawnCare hey, it's not good for a diesel to start and stop constantly. They're meant to run for several hours. Plus, they cost a lot to maintain. Gassers all the way!
Lol third. Good video guys. Keep it up!
Nice lol thanks
Spencer Lawn Care no worries. Do you guys do international shipping for the stickers. I’m in Australia
For sale? This could be the new Spencer’s lawn care headquarters!
Great price !
Thanks Ted
hey shawn, just wondering do you ask your customers if they have their yard fertilized?
We can tell if it is or not if we go out to the location. If we do it over the phone. Yes we will ask. It doesn’t hurt anything to ask.
Me and my dad own our own mowing company and we like to do the edges it give it a cleaner cut
Morning that’s a big job big house 🏡 good luck 😎💲💲😅😅
Spencer, what Estimate software do you use? Thank you.
What app are you guys using to get the measurements for the lawn and stuff
It would be cheaper for her to buy a top-of-the-line riding mower, edger, and blower and do it herself. I mean this is creeping up on 10K a year just for lawn care. If it were me, I may even consider buying a small lawn company that is for sale and managing it as a side business with these numbers.
What do you use as estimating software and what to map out the yards
i dont know what state ya'll in but in michigan ..everyone wants services for the bottom dollar .. yeah negotiation is great and dandy .. but at the end of the day .. you need something in your pockets lol ... usually i start handing out discounts on major projects throughout the year if lawn maintenance is your main money maker ..
How long have you been using LMN? Any cons
Hi yall thats a fair price the landscaping will be a bear you'll need Tisha help have a day love from TEXAS
