When I get a new dye, I like to dye 10g of yarn at a 1% depth of shade (meaning 1g of dye per 100g of yarn). I do this to get a feel for the colour and how the dye reacts. This means I have lots of 10g skeins to experiment with. The yarn I chose to over dye today was dyed with rose nyland which is a fibre reactive dye from Dharma. I wanted to use up some leftover liquid dyes of dances with raisins and sweet pea which are also fibre reactive dyes from Dharma. I decided to hand paint a solid section with one colour and splotches with the other. I love the result. What do you think?
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.

I have a monthly yarn subscription that can be purchased through my Patreon: / fromthecauldron Each month you'll receive 100g of yarn in your chosen weight dyed in a mystery colourway and some goodies made by other small businesses. Another perk for Patreons is they get early access to the video where I dye that month's yarn and they get to vote for next month's theme.
