Grampian Campervan Hire have added an aire to their hire business and it's in a lovely part of Scotland, in rural Aberdeenshire just below an amazing little hill called Tap o' Noth, near Rhynie and Huntly.
For more details check the website at www.grampiancampervanhire.co.uk
Overnight fee is £10 and there are EHU points for another £4. It is a CAMpRA approved site. Tap o'Noth is also well worth a visit. It's a fascinating little hill with one of Scotland's largest prehistoric forts on the summit.
I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.

Hello Cameron - on the back of this video we booked a 2 night stay at the Grampian Campervan Campsite as we were looking for somewhere reasonable to stay in the area to catch up with family and friends. This is the first Aire we have used and is an absolute gem of a site. Mieke and Jan were extremely welcoming and friendly and Mieke is exactly as she is on your video - very bubbly and enthusiastic of their site and the local area. Even though she was busy she always took the time to have a chat with us. The site is in a lovely quiet location with lovely views. The toilet/shower block is now up and running - 3 very modern, spacious individual rooms with lovely hot and powerful showers. There is also a well equipped kitchen area for dishwashing / making a cuppa. You can pick from a menu of options or agree an all in price with Mieke. We only needed the pitch and use of the toilets/showers so paid a very reasonable £15 per night. Definitely a site we would recommend and will return to again in the future to explore more of the area.

This is a useful facility for van users in the area. What I would like is more simple camp places for tent users. All I need is parking for my car, a toilet, water supply and a flat bit of grass. I can survive without a shower for a night or two but if that could be supplied too then that would be ideal.

We’ve already tried a few of the aires you have recommended in Scotland our favourite so far being Findhorn. The owner here is so enthusiastic the local tourist board could do worse than hiring her! I hope we can visit this Grampian aires in the spring. Also, her Dutch/ Scottish accent is fabulous. Happy New Year Cameron.

Used to go to Aberdeenshire a lot as a kid. There are so many places of interest to see. The folk are really friendly. It’s good to see another aire open and I’ll keep it in mind.

Well Cameron, the missus is just oot the door and top of the shopping list is the Idaho package o' tatties. I'm sure we can buy them locally here in Las Vegas. Thanks for the heads up, could smell the bangers, crazy what the internet can deliver.😉

Lovely lady great passion! On my doorstep i live just north of Aberdeen. On my list to visit this year. I had a few nights in this area last year, some good road cycling in the area also, if you want to challenge yourself , Clatt to Alford always clears the cobwebs. Keep up the great work Cameron. Thank you.

I agree with you about being snug in the van while it's cold/wet/windy outside.
I'm just back from Galway and it was great, though many places were closed for winter.

If you're cold in your van put the heating on, being wrapped as you are surely you wont feel the benefit when you go outside...😊

Happy New Year to you and when I saw you had put up content about Aberdeenshire I was trying to work out where you were from the roads. Donside is just outside my area of expertise being a Deeside loon not that I don't know where you were as I had an American friend from school in Aberdeen who lived near there whose Father was also in oil. I was always jealous of him as at the age of about 12 his domain was the third floor of the house three bedrooms a toilet and one bedroom was covered in Scalextric track and more cars than I knew existed. A good little business going there.

Good to see more options for stopping places but I can I ask that you make clear whether or not these aires have toilet facilities?
We caught on to the Idahoan mash a couple of years ago too. Not always the easiest thing to find though. The Co-op in Aviemore has recently stopped selling it. My veggie Missus won't be happy with bacon flavour though 🙂

With all due respects it is an aire, not a camp-site. Meike stated in her interview what facilities are available and that toilets would be in the next phase of development. The price per night is clearly stated in the information above. £10 per night plus £4 for EHU.

Very useful intel as always. I rewatched your video on campervans. We are new to this & two yrs ago bought small motorhome. LWe think it’s too big for what we want & want to get a camper. We will do usual search but any recommendations anyone has on dealers with good range - prepared to travel - live in Edinburgh. Got motorhome Knowepark Livingston.
    Ideas welcome

I think it's a question of just looking around and seeing what's on the market. I have a VW campervan, a T6 chassis, and I'm delighted with it but there are some very good conversions on Ford Transits and Hyundai 1:800, although I don't think that particular van is made any more. I first saw my van on Auto Trader. Much depends on whether you want to buy new or second hand. There is apparently a big move away from larger motorhomes at the moment to campervan size so the market is probably quite competitive. Just be careful when considering the conversion. There are lots of home-made conversions out there, some terrific, others notyso good. If you do buy a home-converted campervan make sure it has all the gas and electric documentation to make sure it is safe. Without that paperwork you'll have a difficult job when it comes to selling it on. It's probably worth check the Motorhome Man CZcams Channel. Usually lots of campervans reviewed there and you'll get a good idea of what's available.
