- We bought a crumbling cottage and plot in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It took us a year of exploring England's South West to decide to come back here and do this. Join us to hear about why and what we've got ourselves in for!
We are saving a crumbling cottage with a demolition order that was once a bothy from the 1800s. We will also make it as sustainable as possible, while building a scandi style timber extension. PLUS I'll try to construct a small holiday let mindful retreat on our adjacent plot with the horsebox, where there will be a sauna.
Follow my partner Gergo, me, a freelance writer, and our wild dog Gimli for the adventure ahead!
Hi there - the youtube algo in it's wisdom just showed me your video - good luck with your renovation work - and all the best from Germany. Greets H.
Danke! Thank you Harry :)
Lord but you are brave. Loads of work ahead but your cottage will bebeautiful when you're done Have🌟subscribed.
Thank you so much. Brave would be the nice word but we love being there 💚
Sounds great. Fortune favors the brave. You ploughed
through the negatives kept steady and found your steading. . Blessings !!!
Thank you Juliet! Yes it has been a journey but we've found something to cherish and save
Hello, nice to find you'r channel and follow you'r journey. I moved ftom the city to a little village to live simple life. Wonderful journey to you. ❤🏠
I liked the video but found the drum in the back ground was very overpowering for me. 😊
Thanks for the feedback, it will help us to improve in future ☺️
I agree. I am hard of hearing and drum coupled with your soft voice meant I had to concentrate to hear. Thanks for sharing x
Me, too. ❤@@audreysutherland4739

Thank you Dave! We are bracing ourself with some challenges already beginning in the planning process. But even with that there are happy moments along the way and more adventure to come. Hope all's well for you in Portsmouth with the recent storms.
Just found you on CZcams. Looking forward to following your progress. Best wishes to you
Many thanks Deborah, very happy you are joining us on the journey. :)
Another correction here, I say lime plaster when I meant lime mortar 🙂
I love the cottage!!
Aah, the Shire! My home turf! Excited to see how you progress in your journey
Aye! Thanks we're lucky to be in the shire but also not far from the big greg city
Just subscribed intrested to see your restoration journey in my homeland good luck 👍 might be worth looking into local grants for restoration etc.. to help the budget
Nice to hear Scotland is also your homeland! Thanks, we haven't seen many grants for restoration unfortunately but there are ones for renewable energy systems like a heat pump 👍
Good luck with your project. 🍷🥃to the day it will become a home. Happy to follow as long as you are happy to share. Greating from Greece.
Hello to you in Greece! I love that country. Thank you, we will have a glass that day, and on the milestones along the way. Happy you are on the journey with us :)
You have just popped up on my CZcams recommendations and I love your dear little cottage. My first thought when you said your horsebox has been by the sea for six months is for you to have the chassis thoroughly washed down underneath as salt-water and sea air will do significant corrosion damage to the metalwork. Looking forward to following your progress.
Hi Rozanna, thanks for following us! Yes keeping the horsebox by the sea was a bit of a mistake. At least it was free parking and thankfully public enough there was no vandalism. We do have the repercussions of rusty metalwork now which I plan to treat and paint when spring comes 🙂🐴
Free parking and no vandalism is a miracle in itself! @@RebuildRetreat
Great video subscribed and will watch the progress xx
Thank you for subscribing Catherine!
Have fun and enjoy the adventure.
Thank you, I have realised it's about the process, the adventure 👍💚
First order of business is getting some tools and maybe some home building and maintenance books.
I have subscribed look forward to your new adventure
Thanks Linda for being a part of our adventure!
Hello Happy new year I have just found your video and have subscribed looking forward to joining you as you renovate your cottage. I have caught up with all your videos, I like the short ones as well as the longer ones 👋👋
I'm really glad you like the first videos Susan! Especially as they are our first attempts. Looking forward to share more with you. Happy new year 🙂
Hello, you have a lot of work to do and I wish you well. Just a thought but have you thought of applying for a Refurbishment/Derelict grant from the government? You maybe entitled and it's worth a shot.
We do indeed! It feels slow at the moment but one step at a time. That's a great idea, I don't know if it exists in Scotland but I'll try have a look around.
I’ve subscribed because I’m confident the videos will be interesting but the background noise coming from some musical instrument is driving me nuts so not sure if I’ll be following
Thank you Michael! I've discontinued the background music as this was just my first video and experiment
I really enjoyed this video, I’d like a tour of your horse box-if you’re happy with this suggestion as what I saw looked wonderful. I lived & worked in Aberdeenshire for 9 years & have many happy memories there & wish the same to you both. Eventually will you let us know how often the vlogs come out. I also think when you undertake a task or part there of if you present that on the blog this may appeal to more people? Central Victoria Australia 🇦🇺
Really appreciate the suggestions! Would love to share the horsebox and a breakdown of what tasks we are doing. Glad you have happy memories of Aberdeenshire, quite a contrast to Australia, which we should visit one day 🌏
Just subscribed and enjoyed your first videos. Keep them coming please .
Love the dog parts - what a gorgeous dog .
PS the sound on the fitting the door one was difficult to hear towards the end.
Thank you for subscribing Simon and glad you enjoyed the first videos! Appreciate your feedback especially as I try improve the recording quality into the future.
Are there bears and coyotes up there?
No, hundreds of years ago there were bears and wolves over Scotland. Not anymore. We do have bunnies on the plot though!
Please tell me what kind of gong-bell sounds periodically
Terrible background “music”!!!
