    You can conform those frag attachments on the magazine pouches to accept CAT tourniquets. I still use the ALICE web gear with a couple modern upgrades; On the LC-2 cartridge belt, I carry (2) AR-15/M4/M16 mag pouches. (2) canteens, (1) IFAK (center back), (1) frag pouch to carry my headlamp and batteries, (1) M9 holster, and (3) M9 magazine pouches. IMHO the classic ALICE "Deuce/782" gear works as good as anything else out there. It's all subjective for what works for each person.

    I love my old ALICE mag pouches. I bought a new chest rig for my M1A mags and it was not nearly as durable as the old ALICE mag pouches that fit M1A/M14 mags perfectly. (They also work for AR mags but I like my old mud gun...thank you very much.) I put some Gorilla camo tape on the outside of the mag pouches over the grenade pouches (so you don't need to cut them off) and they are now with a modern camo pattern of Mossy Oak. I use zip ties instead of the Tactical Tailor clips and they work just fine with the heavy 7.62 ammo. I hate velcro because it comes loose when wet which I figured I should mention since I too come from Louisiana where it rains in the afternoon almost everyday in the spring and fall.

    Can't part with my ALICE mag pouches so many things fit them perfectly. I converted my ALICE mag pouches to PALS. Also made a PALS adapter to fill the empty elastic space on the DF-LCS. Made videos of both projects stop by if you want to have a look.

    Learned a long time ago to replace the metal Alice clips with zip ties. Depending upon the size of the zips, arrange 2 or 4 zips with the closure at the top, when snug, cut off excess then use a fire place lighter to melt the closure around the length of the tie shaft. These do not dig into your body. Have a few spares in your pack for replacement or other uses. As you point out, still good kit and a heck of a lot better than a lot of alternatives. I agree on the grenade pockets and they don't fit the smoke grenades civies use anyway. Can be used for M1 clips. I just use some cotton bandoliers strap material, starting in front, down inside then up the backside as I pull it up to get at the clips towards the bottom. Semper Fi and keep your powder dry during these difficult times. Enjoy your videos.

    Carried that style lbe it in the 70’s and early 80’s. Still prefer it to a Hot enclosed vest. Old Alice with a frame and my back doesn’t sweat like carting the tube sock style rucks.

    ALICE is extremely under rated and was made in a time when the US Soldier did more stuff that a Citizen would be required to do, hiking, camping, survival, fieldcraft. Today we are so Military focus that we forget that we, as individual survivals do not have a endless logistics train, transport options to pick up the burden for some of the downsides of being fully kitted does.
    Go on a few mile hikes and then build a proper shelter in a chest rig and you will be begging for something as ventilated as ALICE gear. It was design with rucking and fieldcraft in mind.

    I have a question for you Renaissance Marine. I recently set up some of this gear and used it on a few day hikes to try it out. I have a butt pack out back, 2 canteen pouches and 2 mag carriers up front where I have the suspenders clipped into the tabs. I only had it out a few times with a light load and it's very obvious that the ammo pouch tabs where the suspenders hook into the grommets are failing. They are stretching out and fraying around the grommet. The pouches are dated 1991. Have you ever seen this or do you have any tips?

    • @renaissancemarinetv3536
      @renaissancemarinetv3536  Před 4 lety

      no, i dont recall that ever happening. actual military gear is usually very overbuilt. i would just get a couple more. buy them from a surplus store that buys such things in large lots from the govt. and not off ebay. there is fake everything these days.

      @deltaecho8732 Před 4 lety +1
