  • In this video I convert my 2008 Volvo XC 90 to run on Brembo brakes from the Volvo V70r/S60R brake calipers. THe conversion isn't too bad and it works well. My XC90 stops much better and with more confidence.

I have received a few questions on what is needed for the car on this project so I'll put that here. For the front brakes I bought 4 high grade bolts M12x1.5 x 30mm long. Each bolt needed a sleeve to go around them with a 12mm ID and a 14mm OD (you can find these readily available) and mine were 14mm long (but I think 15mm long would also work). You will need S60R or V70R rotors on all corners (unless you just do a front brake upgrade). Finding a good deal on the calipers took the most time! Get a metric tap and die for M12 and M10 in order to clean up the bolts and chase the threaded holes. I bought my wheel spacers from Ebay. They are 20mm thick, 5x108 bolt pattern, made for a 67.1mm diameter center bore. Thanks for watching my video!

I think it is worth it if you can gather parts over time and get good deals. I don't know much about the S80 though but I bet you could.

Hmmm. You might have to find a way to make sure calipers are not moving. Other than that looks good.

How does the brakes work after breaking them in? Better or the same? I want to upgrade brakes for my 2005 S60 T5. Cant decide which.
    1. XC 90, 336mm front, 308mm rear.
    2. XC90 328mm two piston front, 308mm rear
    3. All 4 330mm from S60R

The brakes work pretty well now. I could still stand for them to be stronger but they are much better than what came on the xc90. I'm not sure if you need all 4 but having the Brembos from the S60R on the front definitely help. It is too bad we cant fit the Brembos over the 336mm rotors.

Good observation but the calipers aren't moving, the difference between an M14 and an M12 is 2mm on diameter (or 1mm radially), the thickness of the spacers is 1mm radially. SO that spacer takes into account and fills all the space around the bolt. It seems a little sketchy at first but it works fine. There is shadier shit and oversights going on in vehicles straight from the manufacturer! Lol. The difference in bolt grades makes up for the bolt strength. For example a class-10.9 M12 bolt has about the same shear force capability as a class-8.8 M14 bolt. As always, if you aren't comfortable then don't do it.
