  • ►Your job as a vehicle owner is to ensure it's safe to drive on the road, including checking its brakes. The rear brakes provide less stopping power than the fronts, but they need to be in working order to help stop the vehicle. The Volvo XC90 is no exception, and you can replace the rear brake pads and rotors at home when they're worn.
As you use your brakes, the pad material and the rotor face get worn down, eventually creating metal-on-metal contact that performs significantly worse. You want to replace your brakes before then, preferably when the brake service warning message pops up on the instrument cluster. Doing so will ensure you're never without quality braking performance and your wheels stay steel-shaving free.
Follow along with this video as Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIY'er, tackles a Volvo XC90 rear brake rotor and pad replacement.

Great video! I’d like to see a parking break video and cable adjustment! My 07 XC90 Sport makes this job difficult and your videos would help out our community a lot. Thanks

Great video. One thing I noticed putting everything back together...my parking brake was previously perfectly adjusted, but with new rotors there is zero contact with the rotors even when the parking brake is fully depressed. It sounds like the adjustment is in the console and a PITA to get to.

Great video - just did brakes for all four corners for my daughter's 2013 XC90. Easy job - just have to know the rotor sizes (plenty of videos out there on how to check - key is the different styles of anti-rattle clip). I'll be watching for more P2 3.2 XC90 videos - thanks!

Wondering about brake grease on the slide pins, noticed you didn’t grease them on assembly, do you not recommend?
