It was one of the scariest moments in global history. One of the worst earthquakes in recorded history 7.7 magnitude earthquake on All Saint's Day morning; when everyone was at church, paying respect to dead love ones. For 6 minutes, people were running towards the shoreline to avoid being crushed by falling buildings. Less than an hour after the tremors started, a Tsunami engulfed the entirety of the harbour and downtown. 2 more waves came in after that. And if that wasn't enough, candles lit for All Saint's Day lit wooden wreckages inland ablaze, and created a massive firestorm that burned for hours, suffocating people who were hiding/trapped. 35,000 people died in the span of a few hours. A world-spanning empire brought to its knees on a holy holiday. While this scene is rather short, and could've been much darker, it captures the mayhem perfectly.
