Wow, this is making me want to get back into resin printing. This fixes 90% of the issues I had with using my Saturn 2. Thanks for the video!
No joke this takes away a lot of the headaches people have with it.
I am in the same boat - Have a S2 - Just preordered the S4U
Same here! Looks awesome
What problems did yall have. Been using my Saturn 2 since release and could not be happier
Huge opportunity missed by not adding a heated vat. It would have been perfect...
This looks like the one to buy. The amount of fiddling and settings adjustments I've seen with these various printers has been what's been holding me back. Never underestimate the pull of something that 'just works'
I preordered mine and can't wait to get back into the hobby. Thanks for the info!
Yes!! You're the ONLY person doing who's gonna be doing a video on the standard Saturn 4. It's kinda a bummer no one else is doing videos on the regular Saturn 4. I'm a bit worried about the tilting vat breaking and the cost that will incur so I opted for the regular Saturn 4 (and the green is so nice) and I just wanna know
Yo Jessy! I Appreciate this video, man!
It would be cool if you showed a more detailed guide of how you clean and postprocess your prints, since the whole tray can't fit into the wash and cure station.
Look at his previous videos, he’s done a few already
My only hesitation is the build plate. If resin gets inside the hollow portion and the spring mechanism start getting stuck, having to take it apart and cleaning it will be a pain.
This build plate is a great candidate for a magnetic build plate. Too bad they generally don't work well for large format printers.
@lanzer22 because of the plate design I think you can squeeze several strong magnets in between the plates and make it work. If you get strong enough magnets it will probably hold the metal plate, because the tilting bed will have way less suction resistance.. if anything you could probably design a plate with holes for magnets and glue them into a small thin retainer upper resin print. I plan on using my cnc and making an additional plate hopefully that will have some sunken magnets. Can't wait for them to ship it!
@@newmonengineering true that there will be less pull force on the plate. Will definitely experiment with different magnets to see what works. There is a lot of room above the plate for resin clearance so we can put some hefty magnets in there. Though cleaning in between resins would be nasty if I put too many magnets everywhere
Saving money to order one of these soon. This looks amazing for the price range and features.
Bed leveling has always been my main issue (that and resin spilling)😅 This is amazing and I'll definitely have to grab this printer! Uncle Jessy never disappoints with these videos!
Definitely excited for the print settings from this one, as I do a TON of batch printing, and the faster that can happen the better.
A bunch of profiles going up today! Saturn 4 Ultra, Update to my Saturn 3 Ultra, a bunch of FDM Printer profile updates
@@UncleJessy Did this ever go up? I grabbed your patreon just for these and they don't appear to be updated.
I got started resin printing with the original Saturn. Now I have a pair of Saturn 2 printers that have performed almost flawlessly. Looking forward to getting the Saturn 4 Ultra.
Really liked having the tilting vat in the Prusa SL1, glad to see it's in more affordable printers now
I am excited to see the resin tray has a pour spout corner. Such a simple yet significant addition.
The speeds on this are insane and it doesn't look like much compared to the Saturn 3 Ultra, but as you said, when you consider this is using PFA film rather than ACF, you don't loose detail, so WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW!
"fox hammer" lol. Jesse, say it like "foe".
@@nobirdsnomasters he knows, he's doing it on purpose!
@@FauxHammer We pronounce it as Dolphin not Porpoise - LUL
😂😂
FoeHammer for the win 😂
Yet again you have created a great review.
The venom and skull look awesome I'm new to resin printing looking 4 my 1st printer was looking at a GKTWO but think this is a better choise thank you 👍
Great video!!I have to say this is one simple to use resin printer! Pretty much just slice and print. Yeah, I might have overlooked where the drip tray was in the packaging 🤔. I might have had someone in this video help me locate it during my unboxing 😂
I literally *just* sold my resin printer because I hated the mess, but if I hadn't already tried resin printing, this would definitely convince me to try it. *So* much easier than mine was... Except that you still have to deal with all the mess and fumes. I don't imagine they'll ever "fix" that, though.
Resin printing is definitely a "garage" hobby. I can't imagine doing it in the house.
This looks awesome, maybe I should get into resin printing
Great vid! Thanks
that was a pretty cool intro where it cycles through the different iterations
best review so far!!!
So mSLA have finally catched up with the tilting VAT that Formlabs introduced on the Form 1 back in 2014! Nice to see some progress! 😄
Jessy. The video was awesome. I've got 4 Saturn 2s and I might need to replace them with these. Do you have a contact at chitu that you could put an ear worm in? The lack of windows snap in chitubox makes me want to use lychee slicer over it
What about screen protection? Included? Will it fit under the tilt?
As a seller of models I was a bit iffy on the lower build height limit as I have a few models which are exceptionally tall. But hearing all of this this sounds like a brilliant addition to my fleet. Now if only I had more space.
Really interesting!! I'm still using my trusty original Saturn, would be interested in seeing a comparison between the 1 and 4, is it time to upgrade?
Will the build plate fit into anycubic's Wash & Cure 3 Plus? A compatible wash & cure is essential for me!
Looking to buy a resin printer and have been waiting for the S4U to release and see some reviews and I gotta say I might finally take the plunge!
Love your videos, but Jessy, what resin are you using that you feel comfortable no mask? 😮
Hey UJ, is there a video for the S3U vroom settings? I just upgraded from an S to a 4 Ultra and I'm intrigued about the vrooom settings, thanks!
Hi there Clayton! OMG, I wish the Ultra had the green lid - it looks stunning! So much cooler! And…. bib bib bib! Yeah! I love the Bib 🤣 Please, forgive us who started bibbbing in your Live Stream - which always feel like a fun party to be in 🤷♂️ You’re the man!
Jessy, is tilting mechanism more reliable printing wise, overall, compared to traditional up and down printer ? could you get away with using less supports ?
Crazy how quickly new machines are coming out. I bought the Saturn 2 around this time last year and that was the latest machine out - now it's deemed 'old'!
At this point every spring elegoo is releasing some form of an update to the Saturns
I'm really curious how well the mini-heater add on works. Does it talk to the printer, so that the printer will turn it on/off and only start when at temp? How easy is installation? does it sit in the chamber with the vat like their carbon filter things? Or is it in the bottom under the screen?
I think the tilting Vat is gonna solve so much with print release issues and I wouldn’t be surprised if it extends FEP life between replacements as well
Just got on your patreon to look at the Vroom settings you have for the Saturn 3 Ultra. Kinda suprised that you didn't have TSMC enabled. Is that something you looked at and just found that it wasn't faster?
i have pre order this printer, i'm so hype i want it right now to start my journey printing resin
How long will it take to arrive? I am considering pre-ordering it, but want to know if it will take long for it to arrive
@@TheNataliaReyes they said I will get it in June / July, but I receive a mail saying me that I'll have it before the 20 of June
Hmmm a self leveling resin printer ??? Sounds awesome and the price looks just about my budget. My only question is does those mini heaters provide the required heat output to keep the resin at desired temps and since there are more moving parts is the build plate actually leveled every time ? Thanks for the review and your time.
i pre ordered it, and ordered a Mars 4 ultra
Okay uncle Jesse, so I've been debating between getting that one but in the cleaning kit what's the cleaner for the print after your done?
Questions:
Air Filtration of any kind?
What is the Drip tray made out of? Thinking of how easy/hard that will be to clean over time.
With the tilt feature seems like an issue could crop up for the FEP to fail and have resin leak into the printer, how easy is it to get into the printer itself to fix this?
Hi Jesse thanks for the review, can you share with us the VROOM settings for the Saturn 3 Ultra please? Thanks ❤
Uncle Jessy have you tried the Uniformation resin printers by any chance?
what would i need to make the saturn 4 safe to use in my home in terms of ventilation?
Considering looking into the hobby
Vat tilt during print (and the bib) is a feature of the Prusa SL1S, surprised to see it here, wonder who owns the patent and if it was leased or if Prusa had kept it available for the industry.
Sure glad I ordered mine day one release. I’ll be upgrading from my Saturn gen 1 😅 looking forward to more ultra videos!
solid looking printer. still a little concerned about leakage around the tilting bed though. Would love to see how that end of things foes long term
Heck, even just how it survives a fep puncture
Commenting to support the video and the channel thank you for the update. I am still conflicted and thinking about waiting for something a little bit bigger be well be you
Does it need a air purifier? I have a big Dyson hot cold one with carbon and hepa but do I need more
Do you have control over updates ?
Ordered mine, can't wait for it to arrive. Should be a nice upgrade from my OG Saturn. What size is the vent circle in the back of the printer? I want to set up an exhaust system for it.
And that vent port is not built into the lid so no issues at all with detaching the hose. So nice!
I am in the exact same case and excitation state! I'm currently designing a custom exhaust system too. I managed to run a ⌀40mm PVC pipe vertically down the inside of the drywall of my workshop, as the air extraction unit happens to be located in the attic just vertically from this non-load-bearing wall. The pipe inlet emerges into the room next to where the printer will be, via a 90° elbow passing through a dummy socket cover. It connects through a custom iris shutter mechanism that I'm currently designing, that will allow me to control the amount of air being sucked in, or totally stop the extraction. I decided to use a cheap Chinese replica of a Dyson vacuum hose to connect the printer to this wall "air socket" due to the convenient quick release mechanism. I might add a small activated carbon filter (easy to replace) in order to keep the pipe and the extractor fan in the attic as clean as possible over time (I dunno it this is overkill or not? wrt resin VOCs). If I like the final setup, I'll share it on Printables :)
Nice printer morph effect man!
Every new feature about this printer is an improvement on something that users had complained about with the Saturn 3 line. I'm so glad that Elegoo is not only listening to the feedback that they recieve, but also copying from competitors who are doing the things that printers love.
Great video, bought one right after watching this video.Great pricing $399 for printer itself but I went for combo with the Mercury XS wash and cure stations for $579. Would have went for the combo with the air purifier but there was not a lot of information on the air purifier and as this is my first resin printer I need the wash and cure. Would love to see a video on the Air purifier and heater from you.
Did they give you a delivery date? I want to order one but am concerned with arrival time, need it before July
@@TheNataliaReyes Same told me June/July. They said they are coming by boat to the states and then will be sent by air to be delivered
Would the tilting vat also help reduce issues with suction cups? It seems like it would.
I believe it would since it’s peeling away vs lifting straight up
Wish the Ultra had the Green Cover - it Looks like it would let more light in for timelapse videos.
So how do you clean the resin off the top of the build plate?
Hey do this printer work exactly like the. Saturn 4 not the ultra the one with the green cover
Please do the saturn 4 review soon 😭 Deciding which one to get and I like the color of the saturn 4 better
Green cover kicks arse! (do not like the charcoal translucent at all) I wonder how much the green cover is.. or of you can order the 4 Ultra with a green cover? Definitely needs a heater!
I think the separate heater is a nice strategy because I don't think people in warm country want to buy the printer with heater that they'll never use.
Did you ever finish the magneto lifesize statue?
I currently own a Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8k. Is the Ultra worth the upgrade in print speed/quality?
Is it able to hook up to the mars mate??
Ordered our ultra via your link can't wait to print it. The camera does it work in a dark room amd still film in a time-lapse or do you need to get a light in the printer some how.
Did it tell you when you will receive it? I want to place my order but not sure when it will arrive, need it before July.
I want to see that heater review before I decide if I want to get back into resin printing with this. My Saturn 2 broke me and I haven't looked at it in almost a year. But before I decide anything, I want to see if that heater works.
If the fep breaks mid print - what would happen with the resin and the tilting vat?
Is this considered a standard or mid size printer?
For figurines? Not just busts??
The only question I have for you is what the different heights are for the various models. You give us time, but I want to know the realistic mm/h numbers
How’s the auto leveling? I recently bought the anycubic m5s and the auto leveling went out after only a month 😢
“I’m a man who likes to work on my prints, I like to take them apart and put them back together. Why Elegoo? They have a printer that works, then there’s this flip top box. I like things that are well designed, this box is interesting and practical.
New Saturn, quality, speed, flip top box, popular printer price.”
All jokes aside I really like that design. I’ve scratched the hell out of my Mono X’s lid on the Z axis taking it off frequently. If I was in the market for a new printer I’d probably be a buyer, but I think I’ll hold off for the 5 and see if they incorporate a heater into that design since that’s my only true issue with resin printing here is I do it all in a cool basement.
Thanks for the uploads. I'm building a resin farm to make miniatures for my shop. Which machine would you choose on a reliability standpoint? Does the Sarurn 4 Ultra stand up to the Uniformation GkTwo?
GK2 is probably a better machine overall - heating, overall build quality, and reliability. But the cost per machine (esp with the higher res LCD) is multiple times the cost of a Saturn. For a one-off if money's not a concern then the GK2 wins hands down every day, but for a farm where you need multiple machines and are more dependent on the manufacturer's Customer Service and you want the devices at a lower price, the Saturn's a pretty compelling solution - assuming the tilting vat is durable, which is very much an open question right now. My biggest worry with investing in multiple Saturns for a business Print Farm, is if the tilt vat proves problematic, you'll be in strife.
You should make merch that says "Run off and Print!" 😄
wait u mean the same stl files are also printible with a resin printer instead of an fdm printer right ?
Once they add a heated vat (Saturn 5 Ultra maybe?) it will be close to perfection. And even now without it, at $399 this is a superb machine.
I atill have the original Elegoo Saturn in the box from a super early bird order. My first daughter was born around the time it arrived and I've had another kid since. Never had a chance to use it. One day....
I was super curious about this printer, i would love to have it but the overall size of it makes it difficult to have in my room space. As soon as i have space i Will consider it. Just what about the smells leaking of the shield? I'm in an apartment with other 3 people, and i would like to not have them on my throat as soon as i start printing ahahah i know it's much of a deal on the side of the resin you use, but as far as i know ther are no "smell free" option, and having it into my bedroom makes it even more of a problem.
Do you think you'll review the new Anycubic M7 Pro when it launches?
If the FEP punctures, will the tilting vat cause resin to drip into the insides of the printer?
Hey, I own a saturn and I am thinking about maybe upgrading to this, i just want to know if elegoo has a way I can allow them to resell my old printer so I don’t have to try to find a buyer to take the old one away or how can I get it to work?
the space i have is very limited, but i really want a resin printer for my 3D models i make, but im wondering how bad are the fumes from a resin printer, like can i have it sitting in my bedroom and it will stink out the place with fumes or can i use it the same as a FDM printer with a little more clean up effort ?
The tilting vat is certainly interesting innovation but i suppose only time will tell if the tilting motor will lasts as long as the usual motor as well as any other potential issues that may crop up. I would wait until the next iteration before buying into this new tech.
this would literally be the perfect starter printer for anyone. Auto levelling and auto resin calibration is crazy. The AI camera is such a good addition too. Ill just have to save for a few years 🥲
I dunno about the tilting bed. Fewer moving parts means fewer thinks to go wrong. The early expensive sla printers had tilt bed designs and those seem to have been abandoned by even printer since.
As of 2024 what is the best resin printer with speed quality and size all in one?
How many layers is the Hellboy bust?
Could you add a flex plate? Is that even a thing anymore?
Wow so nice
If the settings for speed are no longer important, then how do you set up this printer in your slicer? Like lychee for instance? Does the printer ignores those settings and asks you to select fast mode or slow mode locally before every print?
Hmmm. I've been thinking about an upgrade for my original Saturn.
We're back to tilting like what the Peopoly laser printer did back however long ago.
I can’t wait for mine 😂
I have the phenom l and I would like to know if it can be muted, it is super noisy.
ok this thing is dope
Does this print faster than the Elegoo Mars 4 DLP?
I don't think the 'Emergency' stop function should be any deeper than the live front screen when printing. I also fear the tilting vat may, mechanically speaking, end up being more hassle than bonus.
Did the autosense 'prevent' an accident by piercing the fep with a piece of debris, thus causing the same accident ? 🤔
It's more for NOT cracking screens by pushing the debris down into it. Sheets are.....somewhat cheap, screens are not.
I'd honestly love to get into 3d printing, but considering how dangerous and messy resin is, that sadly wouldn't be an option, and don't really have anywhere i could put a fdm printer. This new printer does look impressive though.
that skull looks like a groot skull... Im gonna have to get one of these Im still running an original Saturn
Are there any slicers that allow me to insert a PAUSE PRINT command on any layer I want so that I can switch resin colors mid-print? I hate having to sit there and wait for the correct layer to finish and then pause the print manually.
