  • So I bought this crappy Nintendo 3DS console from Wish... and it's an interesting product. Wish calls it New, but it appears to be a real 3DS that they housed in a crappy shell (maybe the shell is new?). But they included some goodies on the console, so maybe it was worth $135 for this Nintendo 3DS console? Let me know what you think down in the comments!

      CIA in the context of the 3DS stands for CTR Importable Archive, CTR being the code name for the 3DS. CIA files contain game content TMD (Title Meta Data) and a ticket (encrypted title key). The title installer, in this case, FBI, is a joke, given that Nintendo named their 3DS files CIA files.

Even if you purchased a system with the games installed legitimately, you're still in a bad position because the games were all purchased on an account to which you don't have access. In that case, formatting the system would mean losing the games. But these aren't even purchased legitimately -- they are literally pirated games. Sure, if you pirate and install all those games, you could say that you saved $170 by not purchasing the games, but that doesn't mean the 3DS is worth $300. When you buy software, you're technically buying a license to use that software in a certain way stated by the license agreement no one ever reads. If the license isn't transferable (like in the case of a physical cartridge of a video game that you could sell to Gamestop or on Ebay) then the value of the software itself will always be $0. If a 3DS with no games on it is worth $100, that same 3DS with 300 games is still only worth $100 (not including the cost of the SD card). If an iPod that has no songs on it is worth $50, that same iPod with 10,000 songs is still worth only $50.

No wonder why the SD card slot is floppy too. I pretty much just left the screws off of the back plate on my New 3DS XL just for easy access to the Micro SD card.
    I personally don't think it's worth $135. Maybe $65 at most. On one hand, it's really easy to install CFW, but on the other hand, there's no possibility that you could brick your 3DS by trying to get CFW on there and waste a bunch of money if the CFW is already on there. Emulation is piracy if you don't own the game physically, you can however emulate game you own if you make your own dump.
      In my opinon emulation and roms sharing isn't bad as long as the game isn't legally sold (either via virtual shop like PS Store, Nintendo Eshop and Microsoft Store) since any physical copy of games (NES,GBC/GBA, PS1/PS2/PS3, GameCube, OG Xbox/360, NDS, PSP and I'm skipping a few like) that are sold on ebay or other similar website don't make profit to the original developper but the person that bought it originaly when it was first released, id say for some 3DS game it's a grey area since like a couple of week I saw Smash Bros 3DS still sold in Walmart.

      Considering how it comes with FBI and "title manager" (which is actually a rebranded dev menu from the official SDK) preinstalled, I'm 99.99% certain that all of these games have just been pirated, so they don't add any value to the system except saving you the trouble of finding and downloading the ROMs illegally yourself.

    • @UraYukimitsu
      @UraYukimitsu Před 2 lety +1

      @the Lord of mainia Games I know that very well, but there's no way these games have been obtained by whoever sold that 3DS (and probably the dozens of other ones) in a legitimate way. The "title manager" in itself is already an illegally obtained piece of software as it is - like I said - from the official SDK and it shouldn't be on a retail 3DS. If they didn't care about that, they probably didn't care about legally obtaining their ROMs either. Also backing up your legally obtained games is legal for personal use only, and I would argue that this is very much a commercial use since they sold that console so that line of defense wouldn't hold anyway.
      By the way it's got nothing to do with emulation as these are 3DS games running on a real 3DS system so it's irrelevant, but yes I do know and agree that emulation in and of itself isn't piracy as you could emulate software that you legally own.

There are some good apps, like checkpoint that can make a backup save of any game. Ex: You beet a game but don't want to loos your save. Using checkpoint, you can make a copy of the save then you can safely reset and play. Making shure you make a copy of your new progress, you can load up the old save and continue.
